Viktor Postol vs. Mohamed Mimoune - April 27, 2019
While the rest of the super lightweight division eats one another in the gu jar that is the World Boxing Super Series, WBC champion Jose Ramirez will see his next assignment decided on April 27th when Viktor Postol faces Mohamed Mimoune in a final eliminator.
The bout was originally ordered last October.
Postol (30-2, 12 KO) looked to be on the way out after a one-sided loss to Terence Crawford and subsequent near-disaster against get-well opponent Jamshidbek Najmiddinov, but impressed many by giving Josh Taylor everything he could handle last June. He wound up becoming an alternate for the WBSS, defeating Siar Ozgul in Glasgow on the Burnett-Donaire/Taylor-Martin card.
Mimoune (21-2, 2 KO) had his breakout win in 2017, a split decision over the surging Sam Eggington in hostile territory. He made the drop from 147 to 140 soon afterwards, winning and defending the IBO title.
Though Taylor and Regis Prograis are the ideal opponents for Ramirez, who just went tooth-and-nail with Jose Zepeda, both Postol and Mimoune would be worthy foes and would make for interesting style clashes against the hard-charging champion.
Will be on undercard of Easter-Barthelemy.

Fight week.
Pistol gave Taylor a really good fight which was destroyed and not reflected accurately by the judges scorecards.
Mimoune is doing well at SLW. May be a fun fight.

Mohamed Mimoune Very Confident of Shocking Viktor Postol
France’s Mohamed Mimoune wants to make a big impression on Saturday night, when he faces former world champion Viktor Postol in a Showtime televised co-feature.
The fight has been sanctioned as a WBC 140-pound title eliminator, and takes place from The Chelsea inside of The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas and presented by Premier Boxing Champions.
With only two knockouts in his 23 fights in the ring, he's not a puncher - but promises to outbox the taller Postol.
He's been riding an undefeated streak since 2013, while Postol is only one fight removed from a decision loss to Josh Taylor.
“Postol is one of the best that I will face but I am not afraid. I am confident I will win. I’ve studied him together with my coach and we have a strategy in place that you will see on Saturday," Mimoune said.
“I’m very excited for this opportunity. It is every boxer’s dream to fight in Las Vegas and I am happy and ready to show the Americans what I have. I have no issues with Postol’s height advantage. I am prepared for it. It is not my first time facing off against a boxer that is taller than me. I have a very good reach as well, but it is my speed that will beat him.
“I have worked very hard after my losses and put all my effort into bettering my performance. I’m stronger and more mature now than ever. I know I have to win and I will win. I’m looking forward to the opportunity to fight for the world title after I win on Saturday night. I‘m dedicating this fight to all French people and I hope they make sure to not miss it on Saturday.”

Re: Viktor Postol vs. Mohamed Mimoune - April 27, 2019
Viktor Postol got off to a fast start Saturday night and inched closer to another title shot.
The Ukrainian contender built an early lead and defeated France’s Mohamed Mimoune by unanimous decision in a 10-round, 140-pound WBC elimination match on the Robert Easter Jr.-Rances Barthelemy undercard. Judges Robert Hoyle (99-91), Patricia Morse Jarman (98-92) and Benoit Roussel (97-93) all credited Postol with a comfortable win in a fight Showtime aired from The Chelsea inside The Cosmopolitan.
The 35-year-old Postol completely controlled the fight until the fifth round, when his awkward, amateurish, left-handed opponent began landing with some regularity. Postol wasn’t as sharp late in their bout, particularly defensively, but he still won with ease.
Mimoune clearly needed a knockout by the 10th and final round, but his lack of power made that improbable.
Postol and Mimoune each landed his fair share of punches in a competitive ninth round. Mimoune also bled from his left ear during that round.
Byrd warned Mimoune in the eight round for shoving Postol in the face while they were tied up. Otherwise, Mimoune continued to succeed in the eighth round, when he landed several right hooks and straight lefts.
Mimoune started strong in the seventh round by landing a straight left. He continued connecting in that round
A straight left hand by Mimoune caused Postol to hold him in the sixth round. Mimoune’s right hook caught Postol later in the sixth, which prompted Postol to go after Mimoune.
Toward the end of the sixth, Mimoune landed another straight left. That shot initiated a wild exchange just before the sixth round ended.
Mimoune managed to sneak in several right hooks during the fifth round, his best three minutes of the fight to that point.
Postol knocked Mimoune off balance with a right hand during the second half of the fourth round. Postol attempted to capitalize on that moment, but he couldn’t land another clean shot.
Mimoune moved out of the way of some of Postol’s punches during the third round. He also briefly placed Postol in a headlock once Postol missed a punch late in the third round.
Postol opened up on Mimoune throughout the second round. He landed an array of straight right hands and left hooks on Mimoune, who seemed reluctant to engage.
The first round was full of entanglements Byrd broke up. Postol connected with the cleanest punch of the round, a straight right hand, just before the 10-second warning.

He's a Kotelnik-type guy whose fundamentals will keep him competitive for a while yet at world level. He can get outdone by the physicality of the top guys.

He’s the type that boxing needs. He will lose against bigger guys. But can upset the odds too.Counter-puncher wrote: ↑28 Apr 2019, 16:32 He's a Kotelnik-type guy whose fundamentals will keep him competitive for a while yet at world level. He can get outdone by the physicality of the top guys.
