Ratings question

I've read the explanation of the ratings system, and I understand that there are still some tweaks that need to be made.......but can someone explain to me the ratings for these 2 fighters:

Lenroy Thomas #386

Ruben Rivera #568

They are both 1-1, with Rivera decisioning Thomas in April yet Thomas gets rated higher????? I know that Thomas is trained by Dan Birmingham - does that influence the ratings?

There are a lot of problems with guys around 0-0, 0-1, 1-0.. those kind of records, because there's no way on earth for us to determine where a fighter should begin his career.

Thomas won a fight after he lost a close UD to Rivera. Thats the only reasoning I can see behind the rankings...

I know it looks like a huge difference between #386 and #568, but its not at all in that area of the rankings..
