Re: Light Heavyweights : Marvin Johnson vs. Antonio Tarver
Marvin vs Galindez was a great fight.
Re: Light Heavyweights : Marvin Johnson vs. Antonio Tarver
I like Tarver cause he's more skillful than Johnson.

Stamina was Marvin's biggest weakness.

Who did he have Stamina problems Against he won fights late by Stoppage and on points and Rally King of them all Mathew Saad Muhammad stopped him twice once in the 12th and final round and in the 8th round a round of year it was voted by the Ring Magazine he lost 1 fight on points and 5 times by Stoppage the Spinks KO by 4 was'nt a Stamina problem the 8th round loss in his last fight was'nt either he got stopped by Eddie Mustafa Muhammad in a fight he hung in before finally getting stopped you might have a point but i cannot see it.

Re: Light Heavyweights : Marvin Johnson vs. Antonio Tarver
He was completely exhausted against saad and mustafa. The saad fights were wars and Eddie battered his body until he could barely stand. Spinks caught him with a perfect uppercut. He certainly had the stamina to go 12rds at today's snails pace but it was his weakest attribute.ClivePatrickLyons wrote: ↑26 Apr 2019, 01:38 Who did he have Stamina problems Against he won fights late by Stoppage and on points and Rally King of them all Mathew Saad Muhammad stopped him twice once in the 12th and final round and in the 8th round a round of year it was voted by the Ring Magazine he lost 1 fight on points and 5 times by Stoppage the Spinks KO by 4 was'nt a Stamina problem the 8th round loss in his last fight was'nt either he got stopped by Eddie Mustafa Muhammad in a fight he hung in before finally getting stopped you might have a point but i cannot see it.

That was Saad blue print to most of his Title fight victories ware down his opponent's until they could not stand up anymore and the Spinks loss had nothing to do with Stamina....Marvin BEATS Tarver anyway points/Tko.

I didn't say the spinks loss did. He may well beat tarver, but it seems apparent you haven't seen these fights. Check them out, it was a fantastic era. Marvin just didn't have the stamina the top guys did. It's very known. Odd you're so he'll bent on fighting it. Oh well, carry on with the nonsense.ClivePatrickLyons wrote: ↑28 Apr 2019, 20:12 That was Saad blue print to most of his Title fight victories ware down his opponent's until they could not stand up anymore and the Spinks loss had nothing to do with Stamina....Marvin BEATS Tarver anyway points/Tko.

It WAS a fantastic era! I seem to recall Johnson being exhausted and dispatching someone rather late in the match but it doesn't seem to come to mind right now. You have the boxing computer brain recall, who was that???Onetimeonly wrote: ↑28 Apr 2019, 20:26 I didn't say the spinks loss did. Don't remember that off hand. He was very measured against galindez. He was a Lt heavy shavers in a lot of ways.
Re: Light Heavyweights : Marvin Johnson vs. Antonio Tarver
That whole seventies decade was golden for LHW's. Galindez; Conteh; Ahumada; Foster; Johnson; Saad; Eddie Mustafa; Parlov; Douglas; etc.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑28 Apr 2019, 20:30 Don't remember that off hand. He was very measured against galindez. He was a Lt heavy shavers in a lot of ways.

You mentioned spinks and I included what happened in that fight same as the others YOU mentioned as it was pretty clear you've never seen any of them.ClivePatrickLyons wrote: ↑29 Apr 2019, 02:46 You mentioned Spinks why to back up your claim throw in that extra loss![]()

I seen them all now tell me what happened in the Spinks fight was it a 4th round ko that had nothing to do with Samina anyway i pick Marvin to defeat Antonio and the Stamina will not be an issue Michael Spinks

Re: Light Heavyweights : Marvin Johnson vs. Antonio Tarver
I don’t know why this is an argument. Saad one my top favorite fighters. But mad respect for Marvin. I have a pretty extensive fight collection and cannot recall one Johnson fight where he came back. It was his Achilles. Ever major loss in his prime (not counting Stewart he was past prime) was attributed to lack of stamina.

There is now a separate sub forum for these mythical debates.

It would be a classic fight, but imo, Johnson would land greater punches than Tarver and take either a decision or late round stoppage.
Re: Light Heavyweights : Marvin Johnson vs. Antonio Tarver
I wonder what Tarver's excuse would be.

Re: Light Heavyweights : Marvin Johnson vs. Antonio Tarver
Does Antonio Tarver had stamina? I have never seen him in an all-out war.
Re: Light Heavyweights : Marvin Johnson vs. Antonio Tarver
I have to change my opinion on this one- Johnson would outwork Tarver and win a decision.
