Gervonta Davis v Yuriorkis Gamboa

Post by Evander »

It's said Gervonta Davis v Yuriorkis Gamboa could land in Baltimore on July 27.
Davis is testing the waters at Lightweight with an eye to fight Lomachenko by the looks of it.
Gamboa is inactive and unpredictable, but for some reason the fight appeals to me.
What do you think ?

I think Gamboa is 37 years old and doesn't take punch well...Gamboa was real exciting many years back.

Davis is looking for a boxer with a decent record in the Lightweight division that doesn't pose a seemingly serious threat.
For Davis it looks ok moving up a division and throws Gamboa a lifeline.

Gamboa just seems ordinary at lightweight.

He's a one time name but now little more than that.

Throw in the Cuban's advanced years and it should be a rather routine introduction to the lightweight division for Davis.

Isn't that the purpose ?
Name fighter in his veteran years given an opportunity against an up and comer who's moving up a division with Lomachenko in mind.

i read it as gamboa would be the one moving down for a title shot rather then tank going up

tank beats loma, i just am baffled by what they are doing with him, kid does not need soft touches and should be matched ambitiously, he has the talent for it

Yes it is the purpose.

Although promoters would hope that the average fan gets excited about it because Davis is fighting a "name."

You're not supposed to be aware that it's a name that tarnished quite a few years ago.

Get Gamboa in shape for one more throw of the dice and let's see what happens.

Look. The loss to Crawford is easily forgivable.

But being stopped by Castellanos a few years ago signaled the end of Gamboa as a realistic threat against the top guys.

And he hasn't exactly been overwhelming his middle of the road opponents since Castellanos.

Not the point of the fight though is it.

What do you want Gervonta Davis to do ?
If he's going to take a run at beating Lomachenko this is a start at Lightweight.

I'm not sure, but if the Gervonta Davis aim is to beat Lomachenko it would be at Lightweight where Loma has the straps.

It won't be at lightweight. I might go to this.
