Barry Hearn: Joshua Opponent Deal Close, Likely Revealed Tuesday
BC:
Speaking at a press conference to promote Dillian Whyte's July fight with Oscar Rivas, Barry Hearn, Eddie's father, declared they are "very close" to confirming the identity of Joshua's next foe.
"I know he [Eddie Hearn] is very close," Barry Hearn told Sky Sports.
"I understand there's every chance he's going to make an announcement tomorrow [Tuesday], so it's getting there.
"It's difficult, it's very difficult, the political world of boxing and the money they're talking about, but it's also difficult when a few people view it as an opportunity to put one over on AJ, or us, or boxing."
Barry Hearn also revealed that they had created a shortlist of candidates, with Joshua having the final say.
"We have five likely opponents, so it's not a question we're going to be blackmailed. We're never going to be forced into doing anything stupid, because we just don't work like that. Eddie is just playing the cards dead straight," he added.
"AJ makes the final call, the final list is there and I believe the final decision will be known tomorrow."
As another poster said last week, "they didn't say which Tuesday."
I hope this all falls to pieces at this point. Who are we going to get? Ruiz? Bah!

I think they should wait until the day of the fight to announce who his TBA opponent will be.

Seems like like deja vu ... all over again (if I may quote Yogi Berra)

I just hope these guys are all training their arses off instead of sitting on the couch waiting to see if they get the golden ticket.

Me neither. I appreciate he's pissed off but he needs to get over it. We need him to get over it.

Apparently, Ortiz and his team are furious with his own promoter for screwing up the fight. The promoter in question (I forget the name, but he's a not well known Cuban) allegedly kept Ortiz (and Jimenez?) in the dark about the nature and size of the offer.
Who's interest are these promoters acting in, the fighters' or Haymon's?

Crooked sport attracts crooked people. Or crooked people make the sport crooked. Take your pick. With all these rumors and questions on Ortiz, I don't understand how the parties couldn't come together after Ortiz's camp fessed up to all that stuff. At least this story is more interesting than AJ vs Ruiz.Deleted_Scenes wrote: ↑29 Apr 2019, 17:28 Apparently, Ortiz and his team are furious with his own promoter for screwing up the fight. Dade Promotions. Ironically funny that they are the one's that benefit. Such shenanigans going on. I wonder if we'll ever know the truth here.
Re: Barry Hearn: Joshua Opponent Deal Close, Likely Revealed Tuesday
I heard it said that Ortiz responded to the offer when it was first made. (I think that meant commented on the offer rather than replied to Hearn), and he and Caicedo are disingenously trying to claim they knew nothing about it to deflect some of the backlash they've been getting from fans. Putting the blame on the promoter suggesting he was acting without consent.
I don't know if there is any truth in that. Jiminez reckons Ortiz doesn't do social media.

I know you're right but I would love to see Ortiz make some real money before he retires. All that wasted opportunity, I'm sure Ortiz was past his best when he fought Wilder and he's probably declined further since then. I don't think he stands a lot of chance against AJ but he's still the one I'd prefer to see him face.
