Entertaining fight but let's put it into perspective. Price is know where near the fighter he was and Allen was making Browne look like a world beater before the KO. The same Browne who only just beat Sokolowski. This fight is only entertaining as neither are very good and 1 is chinny with a terrible engine who can bang whilst the other one gets offended if you dont him.

My thoughts exactly. Allen is limited but he seems like a really great chap so good for him get some limelight and decent paydays. :TU:

As they say boxing is 90% hype 10% fight. I would never begrudge Allen if Hearn manages to keep getting him some wins, makes people think he is a contender and gets him a title shot of sorts and the payday that goes with it.

It’s a tough game with a short career. If you want to make some decent coin before the end big part of it is selling yourself.

If price loses this then he surely has to call it a day?

I think Allen stops Price with a body shot.

Good point. A good body shot on a guy how only has half a tank should do the trick.

I don't think Allen has the punch to KO Price early..... but Price does gas - he was blowing IMO vs Kash Ali

Price SHOULD have too much for him, that power and the wealth of amateur pedigree - but, and its a big but, he isn't knowing for pacing himself and I've not seen a fighter with such poor fighting instincts as Price - especially considering his stella amateur background. Bruno's fighting instincts were poor, but Price just doubles up when knackered. If Price even had Bruno's fighting instincts I'd expect him to grab and survive for a points win if not a KO - but that will not happen. I don't think Allen has the stamina to do 10 comfortably, but if it goes beyond 5 and Allen isn't too badly hurt I expect Price to fold.

So its either a Allen Mid to Late Stoppage - Between Rounds 4-8 or a Price Early Stoppage between 1-4. I'm going for the latter I feel. Price KO early - just too big and will land something.

This really SHOULDN'T be competitive.

It’s the same as DAs last one, really he shouldn’t be in with a chance but it’s so late in the opponents career that it’s a real mystery as to what might happen.
It would be a sad end for David Price should he lose to Dave Allen.

Yes, but Allen is no Thompson or Povetkin. And Price is usually knackered when kod ....i meaning a clean ko in the first 3 rounds...beyond that is not early.

Almost anyone has the punch to stop price early.

I can’t make Up my mind on this fight. At first I thought easy allen victory, but let’s not forget that left hook that almost flattened povetkin. And how open Allen is.

mercman wrote: 30 Apr 2019, 04:47 Definitely. But he's got a bit more than that as well.

Allen's got a good overhand right, goes to the body well and his power's underrated, I think. He's also proved he can go 10 rounds before and he's in better shape nowadays. He's got some serious bottle too.

Frankly, I think Dave Allen's a bit underrated on here.
I agree.

I see some people saying he's area level which is ridiculous.

His defence is shocking. But he has decent power, a great chin, varies his punches, good stamina, heart, decent handspeed.

Hammer didn't, Sexton didn't.

Only two that KO'd a fresh Price was Thomspon (Fight 1) and Tepper, both better punchers than Allen by far. He has atrocious stamina and was blowing out of his arse vs Hammer, Thompson (fight 2) and was slowing up vs Povetkin which also contributed to his KO if you ask me.... and worse of all is he doesn't disguise this and his instincts are amongst the worse I have seen for a boxer - hardly poker faced.

If Allen can see through to the 5th without being too damaged, then its his fight. I am going to go for "no he doesn't" though.

Area level is a good level - that for me means good enough to challenge for the British title..... Can I see him beating the likes of Gorman, Dubois, Hughie Fury and Joyce - no I cannot. He could give them a fight, and they would need to work for the win - but they are a level above IMO.

Perhaps in a different era he could have been very competitive and possibly win the British title - but I would say he's a level below the current crop - even though now he is possibly ranked above some of them with his Browne win.

Price already doesn’t sound confident: “I'm Going To Try To Knock Dave Allen Out”. Well, obviously. Allen reckons he could end it in one...

I think Allen will stop him in about four or five rounds.

allen really hadnt done anything prior to last fight to put him much above area level, the man drew vs a 1-1 guy and then lost to len thomas and was pure slop in many of his wins vs poor opp, timing is good for him with browne and price (hes favourite vs both btw), though ability to last always wudve been good vs price

i think allen is about the 7th best brit hw atm, not bad

i didnt say hes never done anything i said 'hadnt done anything prior to last fight to put him much above area level'

find it hard to see how its untrue. drew vs 1-1, lost to thomas, was very sloppy in wins vs lowly opponents, and while hanged tough didnt take a round off whyte, ort, yoka

fair play to him, hes come on a bit, but im not really seeing this big time underrated guy. and hes actually favourite vs browne and price! i still think even a guy like hughie wud blank him or close to it and dub , joyce (destroyed thomas) etc beat him up, but browne and price are good for him

lol lenroy was the commonwealth champ because he beat allen for the vacant belt. in reality he gets crushed whenever he faces anyone half decent--except he beat allen. and allen drew with a 1-1 guy. and allen had beaten no one really and looked poor most of the time doing it. you really had very little evidence to work with to say he was above area level when ppl were saying that

and now hes been favored over browne and price, so i dont think hes really underrated at all.

I agree. My point on Allen is to see how much better he can get with long awaited dedication and proper training. I guess I see more 'talent' that can be developed. His past isn't that impressive until lately, as you correctly pointed out.

Allen actually has a decent defense at times but its not always evident; he is durable, has a reasonable dig and will improve with fitness, experience and confidence, but he's slow and lacks reach. If fit he should get past Price but as pointed out this is a very good era for UK heavies and as such he will struggle against the likes of Gorman, Dubois and Hughie Fury.

I think a rejuvenated Allen can take Hughie. Gorman would be interesting. Dubois would paste him.

Hughie's about as interesting as a pot of B&Q own-brand magnolia paint, but I still reckon he boxes Allen's ears off.
