Jarrett Hurd vs. Julian Williams on ITV4 - 11 May 2019
ITV has announced undefeated IBF and WBA "Swift'' Jarrett Hurd will defend his titles against top contender Julian "J-Rock'' Williams live on ITV4 in a mouth-watering match-up under its deal with Haymon Sports Premier Boxing Champions [PBC].
In a clash beamed live from the EagleBank Arena in Fairfax, Virginia on the evening of Saturday May 11, Hurd v Williams promises to be one of the best matches that can be made in the super welterweight division. Two of the division's youngest and hungriest fighters will square off on the march toward an undisputed world title.
Hurd (23-0, 16 KOs) has already picked up two titles at 154lbs with heart-pounding victories in one of the toughest divisions in boxing. Tony Harrison was the first to be stopped for a ninth-round knockout to capture the IBF title in 2017. He successfully defended the title with another victory when he became the first person to stop former world champion Austin Trout. The WBA title followed when the 28-year-old dropped Erislandy Lara, earning a split decision in the consensus 2018 Fight of the Year last April.
His opponent Williams (26-1-1, 16 KOs) never backs down from a challenge, fighting his way back into contention for a second world title shot. Four straight victories since defeat to Jermall Charlo in a 2016 world championship match has seen him back in the frame to pick up belts.
Included in that run were impressive victories over former world champion Ishe Smith and contender Nathaniel Gallimore. The 28-year-old from Philadelphia is coming off a knockout victory over Francisco Javier Castro on December 1.
Hurd says: "I couldn't be happier to be fighting at home for the first time as a champion.
"My hometown has been asking me to bring the championship back home and now I can. Julian Williams is a tough opponent and I don't see him as a stepping stone. He's crafty, technical and fundamentally sound. I want to go out and get a decisive win and show that I'm on a different level than everybody else in the division."
Williams says: "Jarrett Hurd is a good, strong fighter that's really hot right now. This is a hometown fight for him, but Philly isn't that far from Virginia. I'm looking forward to putting on an exciting fight for all of the fans, and most importantly winning those titles and showing the world that I am the best in the 154-pound division.''
The fight marks the latest major event to be shown, free to air, on ITV4 under the new deal announced at the end of 2018 between ITV and PBC. The world-class action from events for the next three years includes free-to-air broadcasts on ITV’s channels, including ITV main channel and ITV4 and ITV Hub, and will also include pay per views on ITV’s PPV channel, ITV Box Office.

Setting my alard for this. 3am should do it.
Re: Jarrett Hurd vs. Julian Williams on ITV4 - 11 May 2019
Hurd stops him later in the fight. I'm thinking around the 8th or 9th. J Rock is a decent fighter, but usually falls apart at this level. Can't imagine Hurd's pressure won't ultimately do him in, though he may have his moments early in the bout.

Decent fight to record and watch with my Sunday breakfast. Nice one

You reckon Hurd starts slow in this one like he did against Welborn?
He made Welborn look good.

Hurd always starts slow. He's a steam engine. Takes him a while to get going full force.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑01 May 2019, 14:50 You reckon Hurd starts slow in this one like he did against Welborn?

He also fares better as his size, and strength start to wear on you physically. I don't know if it's that he gets stronger as the fights go on or his opponents get weaker...or maybe a combination of the two, but yeah his best work usually comes in the latter half of a fight.

Hope j-rock can pull this off but you really need to go some to beat Hurd over the 12. Proper specimen who just seems really cool under fire and stays focused on what he needs to do.
Dunno if anybody else reads the breadman mailbag (Williams trainer) in boxing scene on a Saturday? Its a must read for me, really insightful guy.

Re: Jarrett Hurd vs. Julian Williams on ITV4 - 11 May 2019
Im still not convinced about Hurd, taking nothing away, unbeaten unified world champion and he's an absolute beast at Super Welter, he allowed Welborn to hit him with whatever he threw and took some flush shots but they were never gonna put a dent in him although TBF to Welborn some of those punches were clean but as soon as Hurd switched on he got rid of him swiftly
Williams is decent enough boxer, some solid wins but I just remember him getting starched from Jermall, pure highlight reel KO, Hurd's a slow starter usually so I wouldn't be surprised to see Williams pick up a few early rounds but Hurd should catch up with him and probably break him down late on

Jermell Charlo vents frustration during opening press conference
Charlo being the ever-grumpy fellow he is, he took to the podium to direct some strong words at the current titleholder leading into their rematch. Here’s what he had to say...
“We obviously know what happened [in the first fight]. Like, I’m not the type of person to dwell on anything in the past. I’ma take that L and let it build me. He got two losses already, so he knows what it feels like. I’m the individual that didn’t, at that moment, and now I’ma person that do. And now I’ma come into this new fight with a whole different mindset, a much better game plan. So did it affect me? Of course. Any young fighter my age, doing what we do, putting our life on the line, deserves to win.
“One thing that ya’ll know I do well is destroy those who think they can run their mouth like Mr. Tony do. Enjoy your belt while you got it, right? Of course, you the champ, right? You supposed to get the belt and feel confident and run around like you that dude and all this other extra things.
“And I’m a man outside of boxing. Now I don’t know how ya’ll take disrespect, but I don’t take disrespect well. But you not me [Charlo says to Harrison], and you not in my shoes so keep your mouth shut!...Like I said, I wish a blessing to you and your father, I’m glad that ya’ll got the opportunity again to do what ya’ll do, but you know personally yourself that you didn’t do enough to win that [first] fight. Why in the world is the world saying ‘that was a robbery’?!
“You know, I take that like it’s cool because the best thing that can happen is I get the best redemption ever. And I know for a fact that you never been in a position where you got redemption, so you don’t know how it feel...I’m glad for the changes that I made outside of boxing and I represent a much larger city that got my back. You know, not just the city, that I got a lot of people, I’m the people’s champ all around the world. It’s not just — my popularity has grown since a robbery, do you know what I mean?...
“I’m training, I been training, I took this like a wake up. It was like ‘I’m Jermell Charlo, whatchu doing it for all these years?’ I love what I do. Like I said, I’m glad I kept my composure with this individual because I would’ve really did something bad to him and I had to think about my career first. Yeah. Like I said, ‘Keep your cool, Piru.’ I’m different. I don’t play that. Just as long as you know that, homeboy! I don’t care what you say, you gonna respect me. The call me Mr. Keep Runnin’ Your Mouth, and you fucked up!”

Re: Jarrett Hurd vs. Julian Williams on ITV4 - 11 May 2019
Jarrett Hurd didn’t have nearly as much difficulty cutting weight for his fight Saturday night as he did for his previous bout.
The 6-feet-1 Hurd, the biggest champion in the 154-pound division, revealed Thursday night that he had to cut 36 pounds during fight week six months ago. Hurd still weighed in at 152 pounds, two below his division’s limit, for a fourth-round knockout of England’s Jason Welborn on December 2 at Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Though he had an easier time making weight for his upcoming fight against Julian Williams, Hurd came in heavier at their weigh-in Friday afternoon than for the Welborn bout. The 28-year-old Hurd officially weighed 153¾ pounds for their 12-round fight for Hurd’s IBF, IBO and WBA 154-pound championships.

Re: Jarrett Hurd vs. Julian Williams on ITV4 - 11 May 2019
I think Williams is a superb boxer but Hurd won me over with his performance against Lara. Lara is tricky, has power and an elite mover. Hurd was able to walk him down and dominate him. Same with Trout. At 154, Hurd is very difficult to beat due to his iron chin and relentless pressure. Williams will have to sit down on his shots and really try to let Hurd know that he is going to get starched if he thinks he can just keep walking through Williams shots to land his own. As much as I like Williams, I think his tendency to fight on the inside will be his undoing. He's not as good defensively as he thinks and by the time we get to the midway point of the fight I think Hurd will be teeing off with his power punches. Once Hurd gets into his groove, I don't think Williams has the punch resistance to remain upright.handsofstone wrote: ↑07 May 2019, 14:02 Im still not convinced about Hurd, taking nothing away, unbeaten unified world champion and he's an absolute beast at Super Welter, he allowed Welborn to hit him with whatever he threw and took some flush shots but they were never gonna put a dent in him although TBF to Welborn some of those punches were clean but as soon as Hurd switched on he got rid of him swiftly

I think I might stay up for this Hurd is impressive - sometimes feel because of the division he is in gets overlooked (especially in the fantasy p4p list)

Super middleweight Demond Nicholson was recovering in ICU at a Virginia hospital Saturday afternoon due to an undisclosed kidney condition.
Nicholson’s promoter, Lou DiBella, told BS.com Nicholson’s fight against Ernest Amuzu, scheduled for Saturday night, was canceled once Nicholson was hospitalized Friday. The Nicholson-Amuzu match was supposed to be part of the Jarret Hurd-Julian Williams undercard at EagleBank Arena in Fairfax, Virginia.
DiBella said that Nicholson was resting comfortably and expects to make a full recovery.
Nicholson, 26, made the contracted weight of 168 pounds Friday afternoon for their scheduled 10-round bout. The 6-feet Nicholson weighed in at exactly 168 pounds, the super middleweight limit, but began cramping Friday as he attempted to rehydrate in his hotel room.
The pain became excruciating and Nicholson’s manager, Thomas Williams, drove him to an area hospital.
Nicholson (21-3-1, 20 KOs), of Laurel, Maryland, and Amuzu (25-4, 22 KOs), of Prichard, Alabama, were supposed to fight for the regional USNBC super middleweight championship.

Re: Jarrett Hurd vs. Julian Williams on ITV4 - 11 May 2019
Hurd starts slow and slowly grinds Williams down late, for a TKO win around the 10th.
I couldn't resist a few shekels on Williams Ko 1 and 1-2 @ 250/1 and 100s - Williams can be explosive and at those prices he can catch Hurd cold and KO him before he's warmed up.

Hopes of one more title shot for 33-year old former WBA flyweight titlist Luis Concepcion (37-8, 26 KO), 115, of Panama City, Panama, took a hit on Saturday’s undercard.
Concepcion celebrated at the final bell but it was 27-year old Alexandru Marin (18-0, 11 KO), 114 ¾, of Bethesda, Maryland who had his hand raised in a ten round unanimous decision by scores of 97-93 and 96-94 twice.
27-year old Aaron Anderson (5-0, 4 KO), 154 ¼, of Baltimore, Maryland stayed undefeated and added another knockout to his early ledger with a blazing first round stoppage of 38-year old Carlos Galindo (1-10), 152 ¼, of Lima, Peru. The official time was 2:00 of round one. The referee was Wayne Spinola.
In the non-televised opener, 30-year old journeyman Kevin Womack Jr. (9-17-4, 7 KO), 155 ¼, of Baltimore, Maryland scored a vicious second-round knockout of 32-year old Mark Duncan (3-2, 3 KO), 156 ½, of Clarksburg, Maryland. It was Womack’s second straight loss. Womack halted a three-fight losing streak. The official time of the stoppage was 1:39. The referee was Brent Bovell.

24-year old Jr. featherweight Stephen Fulton (16-0, 7 KO), 120 ½, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania took a serious step towards contention, scoring a knockdown and going twelve rounds for the first time in a shutout unanimous decision over 38-year old former WBO bantamweight titlist Paulus Ambunda (27-2, 11 KO), 122, of Namibia.
The victory was punctuated by the knockdown in the eighth round, a big shot over the top bringing the crowd alive. Ambunda beat the count on shaky legs and stayed afoot to the bell. Fulton never threatened to stop him again but maintained the advantage through the later rounds and cruised to three matching cards of 120-107. With the win Fulton picked up Ambunda’s IBO belt at 122 lbs. The referee was Michelle Meyers.

I thgink that explosive and fast-start Williams could starch slow started Hurd in the first half of theb fight. If no Hurd will swarm his opponnent down, beat hijm with a punch and knock J-Rock out in 9-12 rounds
