Dubois expects to face Gorman or Joyce in July
Dubois expects to face Gorman or Joyce in July
BS:
Heavyweight prospect Daniel Dubois is waiting for word on his next opponent.
The unbeaten puncher hopes to face either Joe Joyce or Nathan Gorman in his next fight.
All three of the undefeated heavyweights are handled by promoter allegedly.
Joyce has hinted at a big fight in July after his "stay busy" bout against Ustinov, but it seems both Dubois and Joyce have Gorman on their radar. I'm curious how this will shake out.

Re: Dubois expects to face Gorman or Joyce in July
If the three of them, plus someone else credible (Hughie, Bakole, etc.), can have a two stage tournament with the winners facing each other by the end of the year then it will be great. But they won't...
Re: Dubois expects to face Gorman or Joyce in July
Maybe Charr or Bryan so we can through some minor belt in there.

Hmmm.
I was reading all over last week that Dubois vs Joyce was a lock for July.
Shockingly, that prospect now seems a bit iffy.
If it's not signed in boxing, it ain't happening.
See Joshua-Wilder.

Re: Dubois expects to face Gorman or Joyce in July
kabayel wud be a good fight to have before going for a world title shot . a young guy coming to win who would be by far joes best opponent
Re: Dubois expects to face Gorman or Joyce in July
It would certainly answer questions about both fighters. I find it curious that Joyce has had the fights he's had and talks title shot. He needs a good challenge, and maybe you're right that Kabayel would provide just what he needs. Certainly a springboard.

Re: Dubois expects to face Gorman or Joyce in July
these three are not very exciting.
dubois is massively overhyped for someone who hasn't fought anyone yet.
There was a fun exchange around the third round(?) against the hapless Lartey….and I noticed that Lartey's combos were only glancing.... but Dubois def didn't like it...…..just saying
Joyce is such a soft slow puncher its ridiculous.....I felt that in the lympix….I was a bit embarrassed by it all
Gorman ...no idea what they are doing with him

I must say I was amazed when I saw that Joyce v Dubois looked to be firming up. It's an exciting prospect but why would Joyce bother with Dubois / GB Title, when he's looking to earn a title shot, and doesn't have too long at age 33? He should be gunning for Ortiz or even Dillian Whyte.SenorPipino wrote: ↑03 May 2019, 13:18 Hmmm.

And Fwank was indignant when the BBBC nominated Dubois and Gorman for the English title. That's fully understandable but if that is too soon for such a match, where's the sense in throwing his young cub in with a fully grown lion who has all his teeth and very sharp claws. It makes no sense.
I was initially extremely skeptical that this fight would take place, and I'm a bit disappointed in myself that I had put my skepticism to one side and started to believe. I must be getting gullible.

Re: Dubois expects to face Gorman or Joyce in July
I world title shot is not realistic in 2020.
Joshua is tied up with numerous mandatories, and still chasing Wilder for a unification.
Wilder has the world's longest list of fighters chasing his WBC belt.
I'm not sure where a world title shot comes from. He needs to have 2-3 meaningful fights with ranked opponents and try force a mandatory position. By the time he's relevant to a world title shot, he could be 35/36 with his best already behind him.
Re: Dubois expects to face Gorman or Joyce in July
I agree. I think late 2020 is the very best he can hope for and that's optimistic and only if things go his way. He's with Haymon and Warren which would normally boost his chances at the WBC and WBO mandatories but they both seem locked up for a while. The next IBF mandatory (after Pulev) will be in about 18 months and he's not even ranked there yet. WBA could be possible but there's alot of guys in the mix there and it wouldn't be until next summer at least.Rob3_142 wrote: ↑04 May 2019, 05:12 I world title shot is not realistic in 2020.

Re: Dubois expects to face Gorman or Joyce in July
The other two have plenty of time but Joyce needs to start testing himself. His upcoming bout with Ustinov will tell him, and us, a little more of his potential.funso banjo baby wrote: ↑03 May 2019, 17:13 these three are not very exciting.

Have to agree that the Lartey fight, whilst great to watch, didn't inspire much confidence in Dubois' potential.
Hopefully it was just a one off with Danny getting a bit carried away. Well, it has been pretty easy for him so far.
Re: Dubois expects to face Gorman or Joyce in July
I doubt we'll learn anything from Ustinov. Dave Allen would stop him these days. He never was all that and now he's about ready to be boiled down for glue. The only benefit of this fight for Joyce is a familiar name in the win column and that's it.
Re: Dubois expects to face Gorman or Joyce in July
With Candy on this one. Ustinov is one of those also rans. Even as a keep busy fight it's pretty awful. He wants to be fighting for world title fights, he wants to mixing with people with a heart beat as soon as possible. I hope he has an actual plan, and he has something significant lined up for the summer.
In regards to Dubois, I think people are reading far too much into it. He has probably fought his first live opponent in Lartey, who had a go but lacked the quality to get the job done. He's spent his career thus far knocking over tin cans, and after the drab Johnston affair probably wants to return to his knack of cleaning people out.
Still early days for the young slugger, and coming through this test will only go to develop him.
