Let's match them at lightweight.
Re: Oscar De La Hoya Versus Alexis Arguello
Tough fight.
IMO in 135 pounds ODLH would won by close decision.

At 130 pounds Arguello would stop young Oscar.
Re: Oscar De La Hoya Versus Alexis Arguello
Arguello by a late stoppage in a competetive fight.
Re: Oscar De La Hoya Versus Alexis Arguello
At lightweight? Arguello would take him by close decision. Maybe late TKO if Alexis puts on a body attack.

Ain't no way Oscar De La Hoya beats a prime Alexis Arguello. Arguello by knockout.

Arguello for sure. Oscar would have no chance with 15 rounds and didn’t have the IQ to beat Alexis.
Re: Oscar De La Hoya Versus Alexis Arguello
I like Arguello by UD. More skilled, better timing. I'd say Oscar was the faster of the two, but Arguello was more precise, and Oscar often had a tendency to slow as the fights went on. Arguello never had stamina issues really. Add to that that Oscar really hadn't hit his peak in ability as a fighter yet, and it's hard for me to imagine anything but an Arguello win.

Re: Oscar De La Hoya Versus Alexis Arguello
On the surface it'd be easy to favor Oscar. One of few opponents Arguello would face that would be bigger and at least as powerful, in addition to being much fleeter of hand and foot.
But then you factor in experience and, maybe even more importantly, stamina, and it becomes a hell of a matchup. One that I'd probably favor Arguello in down the stretch of a 15 rounder.
The question would be whether or not Oscar sees the final bell, and if he did would he have been able to have built up a big enough cushion early to make up for the beating he'd be likely to take in the championship rounds. I'd say the answer is not, though I could see him going the distance.

I'd favor Arguello close in a 12 rounder, but wide in a 15 rounder. He'd dominate rounds 13 thru 15 if it were scheduled for that distance.Abradolf Lincler wrote: ↑06 May 2019, 14:56 On the surface it'd be easy to favor Oscar.
