Yeah, no kidding. Pov's fight fell off my radar and today I was like, "who is he fighting?"tiny_acres wrote: ↑30 Apr 2019, 12:42 If his opponent is ranked in the top 50 if consider it at least decent considering it's less than 3 weeks away
Re: Povetkin May 18. Still no Opponent Named

We have 4 or 5 big name Heavyweights all in action in the next few months, and none of them are fighting each other

From today
Povetkin: I'm Not Thinking About Retirement, I'll Return Soon
Olympic gold medal winner and former world champion Alexander Povetkin is not event thinking about the end of his career and plans to begin preparing for the next bout in the near future.
Povetkin declared that his next fight has not yet been appointed.
Late last year, Povetkin had surgery on his elbows. Earlier it was reported that he could hold the next fight on a date in May, possibly against Oleksandr Usyk, who was making his debut at heavyweight - but the deal never came together and now Usyk is facing Carlos Takam.
While there are some fans who believes the Russian veteran should retired from the sport, he wants to walk away from the ring on a very high note and not on the back of a knockout loss.
“I'm not thinking about the end of my career at this point. As I said, there is still a desire to continue and strength in my body. We’ll see how the body behaves, but I don’t plan to finish my career right now and I’m ready to start preparing for the next fight,” said Povetkin.
Povetkin has a record of 34 wins (24 by KO) and two losses. The boxer will soon be 40 years old.
“I'm training, and I've practically recovered after elbow surgery. There was a lot of talks that I would fight with Usyk and I was interested in this fight. In time we will figure out our next move," Povetkin said.

Except for Whyte. Once again he's facing a formidable foe. How soon before we call him the "People's Champ?"tiny_acres wrote: ↑30 Apr 2019, 12:51 They are all just out for a paycheck and bot a legacy building fight

I don't see Rivas as much of a threat at all.
I had Jennings up going into round 12.
Whyte should destroy him in 5 or 6 rounds.
I actually think this is a give me fight for Whyte
Re: Povetkin May 18. Still no Opponent Named
I have Rivas. He'll be underestimated and he hits very hard. Has a decent gas tank as well. He'll put pressure on Whyte and Whyte doesn't like pressure.tiny_acres wrote: ↑30 Apr 2019, 12:56 I don't see Rivas as much of a threat at all.

I don't think it will happen at all. No event data in Boxrec, no undercard....
I presume no interest/low tickets sales-(
But, really, who give an eff on Povetkin in Chicago?
Re: Povetkin May 18. Still no Opponent Named
I don't know that there's 10 Heavyweights that could beat him, but I imagine he's more beatable now than he once was, and will continue to get even more beatable with each passing year.characters wrote: ↑01 May 2019, 06:33 Povetkin is just too good, I can't name 10 boxers that could beat him and the only ones I was confident about that would beat him, already defeated him.

I'm surprised as I can't name 10. Sad division.characters wrote: ↑01 May 2019, 06:33 Povetkin is just too good, I can't name 10 boxers that could beat him and the only ones I was confident about that would beat him, already defeated him.

Re: Povetkin May 18. Still no Opponent Named
Has to be matched very carefully at his age or Povetkin's career can end in a snap.
He looked shaky against the worn Price, and took a pounding after some good early rounds versus Joshua.
I'm wouldn't be surprised if he has next to nothing in the tank next time out.
He probably is still in line as a Usyk opponent later this year. But does Povetkin really want it?

Re: Povetkin May 18. Still no Opponent Named
These boxers would defeat Povetkin, definitely : Fury, Wilder, Joshua and Usyk.
I might imagine several competitive fights : Ortiz, Whyte, Parker.
I would slightly favoured Povetkin against Pulev and Breazeale.
Dubois, Hrgović, Ajagba and Makhmoudov are still green, and I wouldn't like to see them against Povetkin, at least this year.
Honestly, I don't know what to think about Rivas and Hunter.

All fair points. Povetkin would be a good opponent for the youngsters next year IMHO. A truly great test for them as pov will be a year older and slower, etc, but still bring that savvy into the ring. Maybe Hrgovic latter this year.ValMar wrote: ↑04 May 2019, 11:58 These boxers would defeat Povetkin, definitely : Fury, Wilder, Joshua and Usyk.

He downgraded long ago. He's been regressing since Byrd and chambers.characters wrote: ↑04 May 2019, 06:53 He will downgrade soon, perhaps he can still fight Ortiz, I'd like to see it.
Re: Povetkin May 18. Still no Opponent Named
Seems unlikely he fights.
I don’t want to see Povetkin turn into an opponent.
A tune up and Usyk would be ok. I hope he’s saved some money.

That is a pretty perfect summing up in my opinion.ValMar wrote: ↑04 May 2019, 11:58 These boxers would defeat Povetkin, definitely : Fury, Wilder, Joshua and Usyk.

Re: Povetkin May 18. Still no Opponent Named
I agree with that. As a big fan of Dillian, I worry for him and probably have a tendency to over estimate the threat, but I do think you're right about Rivas's power, stamina and pressure. You can't tell Whyte he keeps riding his luck though. Even if he knows that he'll keep taking risky fights. It's what I admire him for so I can't complain.
He puts most of his contemporaries to shame, and he is a champion without a belt in my opinion.
P.S. Nobody mention that despicable bunch of corrupt wankers and their shitty worthless 'silver' belt. Burn the piece of shite Dill or stick it in the trash where it belongs.
