I had Canelo by two or three but Jacobs made it a right good fight. I thoroughly enjoyed that!

They numbers don't really mean anything. I hate all that CompuBox shíte! Admittedly i still look at it sometimes though

Alvarez has great stamina. That Mexican beef must be amazing.

He has great pacing more than stamina.
Re: Canelo Alvarez vs. Daniel Jacobs - 4 May 2019
Fcks me off that this is never mentioned. It is brushed off as if it is a small thing.
The fcking guy got caught cheating and no way on gods earth was it contaminated beef. They just slipped up slightly on cycle timing. Boxing fans are far too forgiving, the way Gaitlin was booed at the 2017 World Championships and how the public, fans and media treat proven drug cheats in athletes is bang on.
Re: Canelo Alvarez vs. Daniel Jacobs - 4 May 2019
Being economical, but precise is the ability Canelo rely on. That's why his performances can be less convincing on the first look. But if you look closer, you'll see it. Actually it didn't work against Golovkin, I'd say. But now, against Jacobs, Canelo utilized this scheme well.
Re: Canelo Alvarez vs. Daniel Jacobs - 4 May 2019
Not a single mention in commentary yet praising his strength, durability and stamina as though they aren't linked.tobyh5 wrote: ↑05 May 2019, 03:47 Fcks me off that this is never mentioned. It is brushed off as if it is a small thing.

Yep Canelo is a drug cheat scumbag. Half his game is strength and being able to walk forward when he wants nowadays we can thank Mexican beef for that
Such BS too. Jacobs lands a straight, hook, uppercut the crowd are slightly. Canelo comes back with a single jab to the body, the crowd goes wild. 10-9 Canelo

Re: Canelo Alvarez vs. Daniel Jacobs - 4 May 2019
Adam Smith and Froch spent the first six rounds jizzing over how "strong and solid" Alvarez looked. It was the biggest hero worship since the Anthony Fowler fight, which made me want a similar outcome.
Re: Canelo Alvarez vs. Daniel Jacobs - 4 May 2019
Watching bits back now and Canelo was brilliant, really showed how you take it to a longer guy who wants to keep the distance.
Head movement coming in, feinting before and as he throws, constant pressure/plodding forward, his signature nasty body work (especially the straight right) and striking fast without hesitation when he had his chances.
I do think the weight cut played it’s part in preventing Jacobs moving as well as he’d have liked, but Alvarez fought a good one.
Still a cheat.

It was there for Jacobs , he just done two things teribly wrong
1--- Shown too much respect , when it was there for him he did'nt committ and push him back .
2--- He kept turning southpaw , when it was'nt having the effect, he certainly looked sharper as an orthodox , Don't know what it is with these guys , Ok a few all time greats have done it brilliantly , Hagler too start with , but christ its hard enough at that level to be a top southpaw , or orthodox , continually changing is not something you should do to catch the other guy out , Not at this level at least .
Jacobs really does have the tools to beat Canelo , just not tonight ... Oh and by the way , Canelo would smash Billy Joe , not so sure about Smith though .
But what a chin Canelo has ,,, End result a fair result

Re: Canelo Alvarez vs. Daniel Jacobs - 4 May 2019
I never thougt that was close at all, might seem harsh but I had Canelo winning 117-111, just didn't rate Jacobs work at all, took too long to get going and although he improved around about the 8th I still preferred the work of Alvarez, Jacobs for all his punch power doesn't seem to sit down on his shots enough for me, he did plant his feet down the stretch but early on Canelo was excellent, strong jab, good work downstairs and I his defence was watertight, really impressive defensive work and he outboxed Jacobs comfortably in the first half, Jacobs looked a bit like caught in the headlights, never let the combinations go, even when he let his hands go there wasn't any belief behind the shots and Alvarez comfortably evaded them
Jacobs did eventually come into it later on but although there was improvement I still thought the quality was with Alvarez, I thought Froch had a mare but seeing the scores seems I'm maybe way off(again) Jacobs had a great 10th but let the last 2 slip away IMO and couldn't capatalise , really impressed with Alvarez, faded slightly but finished strong
Edit-I initially scored it 119-110 but having seen some people have it really close I gave it another watch this time with no mrs or kids waffling in the background but I still had it very comfy for Alvarez, I went in thinking i'd maybe been a bit too focused on Alvarez and neglecting Jacobs work but still for me it wasn't close, Alvarez's shots were a lot more quality IMO, Jacobs had some flurries but nowhere near enough to make this a close fight

Actually, Froch was riding on Jacobs’ dïck all night. And Caldwell was disagreeing with him each time he said something. Dave wants Carl’s job full time ha.
Froch doesn’t even care about boxing. Don’t know why he does commentary.

I feel like the last 2 judges gave Jacobs the last 2 rounds just to make their scorecards closer.
I feel Canelo came on strong those 2 rounds.
Can’t argue with Canelo winning at least 5 of the first 7 rounds easy.

If anyone’s interested in a break down.
Re: Canelo Alvarez vs. Daniel Jacobs - 4 May 2019
Fairly uneventful stuff, big left hand caught Alvarez in the 8th or 9th but he was unmoved. Andrade was their, looks the obvious next match but I think Alvarez wins that too.

I didn't watch this and I like Jacobs — that's the Canelo effect for me at this point. I can't be arsed watching fighters chasing a +2 advantage with favouritism on top.

Rewatched the fight having scored it 19-110 fist time around, felt it mustve ben too harsh but still had it 117-111 I just cant see how anyone thought Jacobs made it close, I went in thinking I was being harsh on Jacobs first time around but I was only slightly harsh, Canelo landed the quality shots throughout and was more effective, not a close fight , cant believe judges gave Jacobs last 2 rounds, mustve been wary of not being too kind to Alvarez
I thought I might've been too focused on Canelo first time around and neglected Jacobs work but nah although I had it slightly closer it was clear Alvarez

I was thinking that. I had Canelo take the first 6 rounds with out 2 I thought he edged, and thought surely Jacobs can’t be this behind. But truth is, he was. His first clear round was won after the midway point.handsofstone wrote: ↑05 May 2019, 08:42 I thought I might've been too focused on Canelo first time around and neglected Jacobs work but nah although I had it slightly closer it was clear Alvarez
Re: Canelo Alvarez vs. Daniel Jacobs - 4 May 2019
Didn't watch it live. I had it 8-3-1 in rounds , 117-112 for Alvarez.
Really enjoyed the fight, the skills on show were first class but especially from Alvarez. Very very strong fighter and his defensive ability is magnificent.
But he's still a drug cheat and should be still a year or so away from getting his licence back.
Money talks. A sprinter gets caught taking PEDs and he's banned for years, a boxer gets caught and he either cons the bent officials or sits out the normal period between fights and carries on.
Why would a top level boxer NOT take drugs, that's the question control bodies need to ask themselves.

Totally agree with your points about jacobs, too much respect and dont know why he was switching when he didnt need to. Fair enough if he was getting his head jabbed off then switch to try and get abit of rhythm going but not switch for nothing. I dont know why cornermen dont tell these fighters that they are way behind and need to up their game. Jacobs could of put it on him in about round 8 or 9 and i think he would of had canelo in trouble. End of the day fair and right result.coneye wrote: ↑05 May 2019, 04:58 It was there for Jacobs , he just done two things teribly wrong

I only watched from 5th round onwards. I muted it before the 5th round ended. Smith and Froch are atrocious and can’t even make up for lack of insight with any sort of personality. Like a couple of insurance salesmen watching their first fight. How do they keep getting work? Especially such high profile stuff
