Very good top notch fight from Jacobs and Canelo! Congrats to both!
Jacobs looked good and he landed some solid clean punches on Canelo. Is Jacobs came at 173 lbs? Imo he still looked good. Imagine a fully hydrated 185-190lbs version of Jacobs vs Canelo!

Re: Very good top notch fight from Jacobs and Canelo! Congrats to both!
He weighed 173 at mandatory weigh in, it was many hours before fight so he definitely was around 180+ in the ring. He looked huge.apollo creed wrote: ↑05 May 2019, 05:02 Jacobs looked good and he landed some solid clean punches on Canelo. Is Jacobs came at 173 lbs? Imo he still looked good. Indeed he looked huge but it's not like the full rehydration's efficiency after the official weigh in. The body needs some time to 'heal'. Especially for a big guy like Jacobs.
Anyway I think now without that IBF's weigh rule, Jacobs can come at 200 lbs vs his next opponent. lol Or he could move up at 168 lbs where Eubank Jr , Dirrell, Benavidez and Callum are.

I wonder what would be the next good opponents for Jacobs and Canelo?
Canelo vs Munguia/Andrade/GGG III?
Jacobs vs Jermall/GGG II/ Brant/ or move up at 168lbs?
Personally I'd like to see next Canelo vs Munguia, Jacobs vs Jermall and GGG vs Andrade(if G beats Rolls)

So you think he paid a million bucks to not fully hydrate? The weigh in was at least a half day before the fight.

Ideal for middleweight boxing IMO :apollo creed wrote: ↑05 May 2019, 06:05 I wonder what would be the next good opponents for Jacobs and Canelo?

I thought the fight stunk until the last couple of rounds. Wasn't worth staying up for.

Stunk might be a bit harsh. It was no classic, but it was kept competitive for the most part, though maybe after 4 rounds you knew the jist of how the fight was going. Jacobs rallied a bit later on at least to add some intruigue.
Re: Very good top notch fight from Jacobs and Canelo! Congrats to both!
Golovkin was right when he said it was glorified sparring. Started to heat up towards the end, but too little too late. Jacobs is a huge drainer who spent most of the fight running away from a smaller man who simply went into cruise control.

My wish list:
Canelo vs Andrade/Sulecki winner
GGG/Jacobs 2
Winners fight early 2020.

Wow! Joshua might even win.
That's why they have weight divisions.
And did Jacobs enter the ring at 173? That's apparently what he weighed in the morning.
Add another 10 lbs by 9 pm fight time.
Re: Very good top notch fight from Jacobs and Canelo! Congrats to both!
..does someone know accurate weights on fight night? if they in fact belonged to different weight classes on fight night, props to a smaller guy and to hell with the other one...

IMO Jacobs was maybe 5-7 pounds heavier than Alvarez. That is not so brutal advantage. That fight was good from all aspects of the sport:
- best faced the best
- fight was entertaining
- interesting clash of styles
- lot of titles on the line
- fair judging
- Canelo cleared his name a bit after GGG1 controversy and some questionable oponents (Amir Khan, Rocky Fielding) and got second best win of his career
- Jacobs showed what many people knew before fight - he is on same elite level as GGG and Canelo, plus he got a ton of dollars
- interesting and evenly matched undercard fights
Btw if we talk about weight advatage, David Lemieux weighed 179 lbs against 164 lbs of Gary Osullivan

Canelo's really just a very big welter. But his tremendous skills pay the bills.
Hoping he can work out a Spence fight for possibly September or next Cinco De Mayo.
Re: Very good top notch fight from Jacobs and Canelo! Congrats to both!
lmao at canelo being a welter, please
of course that is coming from the guy who was saying 6 foot tall 175 pound mung isnt big at 154
his favourite mexicans are just little wee guys bravely fighting giants

I guess everyone that weighs more than 147 pounds could be described as a very big welterSenorPipino wrote: ↑05 May 2019, 13:48 Canelo's really just a very big welter. But his tremendous skills pay the bills.

Mexican fighters are always derided by you.
Unappreciative of their gritty, fight from the heart style. Even when their dwarfed by opponents who casually come in heavy in an obvious effort to further exploit the size difference.
Canelo, in stature, basically is a big welterweight. A strong welter, but a welter just the same.
But he puts on the extra weight in an effort to challenge himself, take risks, and make a mark in Mexican boxing lore.
And he's doing a damn good job at it.
Re: Very good top notch fight from Jacobs and Canelo! Congrats to both!
Yeah good thread! Top notch fight between two quality and classy operators. Good scoring. No drama or controversy. Breath of fresh air!
Re: Very good top notch fight from Jacobs and Canelo! Congrats to both!
nahh, i love lots of mexican fighters, of course a casual uninformed fan would think canelo and mung are the only 2 mexicans out there loliSenorPipino wrote: ↑05 May 2019, 14:12 Mexican fighters are always derided by you.

i even supported canelo vs ggg in both fights, its just your nut hugging i point out some times. lmao omg canelo(who you admit moves you to tears) the thick as hell tank is just a wee welterweight , and your 'absolute superstar' mungs at 6 feet 175 pounds is not a big jmw at all

Re: Very good top notch fight from Jacobs and Canelo! Congrats to both!
Maybe we not realise but we are contemporary with the modern Hagler, SRL and Hearns in GGG, Canelo and Jacobs! All these fights will go down in the boxing history as classic fights. I feel sorry that I wasn't live and take pictures at those fights (GGG vs Jacobs/GGG vs Canelo I&II and Canelo vs Jacobs) but I'm happy that I was in their era seeing them fighting each other! I wish GGG was more younger but it is what it is!
I can say that in this mw era the best fought the best! Even more so I think Canelo, GGG and Jacobs are the best-powerful and polished mw's to date.

And for posts like this is that I keep coming back to boxrec to talk boxing after so many years. Forum format might be old people stuff but social media is garbage these days. People using "close" and "robbery" to talk about the same fight deserve to have their keyboards taken away. Very good, close fight. Canelo has proven himself a legit 160 pounder even if this decision had not gone his way. Props to both him and Jacobs indeed.apollo creed wrote: ↑05 May 2019, 05:02 Jacobs looked good and he landed some solid clean punches on Canelo. Is Jacobs came at 173 lbs? Imo he still looked good.
