Andy Ruiz may surprise us! He's no joke!

Post by apollo creed »

Even Andy has not a great boxing physique, he's a good boxer with fast hands. Ruiz should put a great effort vs AJ. Andy Ruiz had a close fight vs Parker if I remember correctly. :box:

He's a lamb being led to the slaughter, let's no fool ourselves. Doesn't take away from what he can do in the ring, but it's AJ he's facing.

He's a huge joke fighting a serious fighter. Awful fight.

Watch that 'lamb' vs Parker and then watch Parker vs AJ. It is a while since then but Andy is not a walk in the park.

It might be competitive if Joshua fights him on his knees.

I can imagine Joshua just kinda working on things in the early going. Jabbing, body punching, sh*t like that, but if Ruiz gives him any real trouble at all he'll bring the hammer down, and he probably will get more aggressive if he starts to hear boos from the crowd too. It's his American debut so I'd think he wants to impress on this side of the Atlantic, shouldn't be letting the fat man hear the final bell that's the for sure.

Andy is competitive as a HW against guys like Kownacki, Parker, and maybe even Whyte, but not AJ.
And after all the hoo haa over Miller- are we convinced his speed and endurance ( as a fat blobby) are even natural?

Plenty of money means no reason to miss a snack.
12 rounds can be a long time..........he will probably have a pizza delivered to his stool just in case it goes the distance. Gotta have that midnight snack.

Ruiz is smart and has skills, although he's hardly elite.

Joshua hasn't exactly joined the ranks of the ATG heavyweights at this stage.

So I expect Ruiz to be competitive, at least through the first portion of the fight.

Ruiz probably doesn't punch hard enough to keep Joshua honest and his conditioning with just a 1 month training camp is suspect.

So Ruiz will probably wear down and be stopped by the 9th. But I don't foresee him being swatted away quickly or otherwise embarrassed.

It's a bit like Lewis v Botha. Just a two round knock over job.

All those things you have said are completely irrelevant. There are physical parameters which are going to make the fast hands of Ruiz as relevant as shoe size. Everyone goes on about his fast hands and 'coming to win' mentality, but what does he do when he can't get round an 82' jab? Or when he feels one of these jabs snap his head back? How much of a come forward fighter will he be then?

I scored Ruiz for the win against Parker, but Parker is just not that good. Well at least that performance against Ruiz was very poor. I expect in a few years time, Parker will be gatekeeper cannon fodder and the defeat to Parker will look worse than it is now.

AJ will be expecting to flush this guy out inside 4 rounds to wow the casual audience in America. Brutal knockouts sell.

Well he's not coming off the back of a 1 month camp. He was in camp leading up to the Dimitrenko fight on 20 April, and it was basically a sparring session, so it probably didn't take much out of him. From a preparation perspective, Ruiz is a much more appropriate opponent than Ortiz.

AJ should give Eddie a good back hander for putting him in a NO WIN situation type of fight while trying to make a Good impression on the casual American boxing fan's its a terrible match in that regard.

If Ruiz lasted the distance against Parker, he might last the distance against AJ. If he does, then it's going to be a pretty dominant decision victory for Joshua. Then again, if AJ stopped Povetkin in his last outing, he might kill Ruiz.

A trimmed down Ruiz, a Ruiz with a six pack, could be a real force at cruiserweight, because he does have some skills. But currently he's a good 30kg overweight. Even if he survives the first rounds, pure physics will decide the fight. You simply cannot win at the top level if you are carrying 30kg of dead weight on you. He must tire.

Credit to Ruiz for getting so far as he did. Most boxers do not make as much in their entire career as he will make this fight. He's played the game well. It's a shame he couldn't be arsed getting in shape.

Ruiz is 33 fights into his pro career. Of that 33, how many live opponents has he fought?

I think it's more impressive that he's got this far into his career avoiding the fight...

Theoretically everyone has chances. So as Ruiz. But his chances are tiny. Cause he's a wrong type of fighter. He's a little volume puncher, he'll go forward with his t-rex hands, opened wide for rangy, more technical and hard-hitting Joshua.

Yeah, I think it'll be an ugly beatdown. AJ isn't going to carry him. He'll look to end it in devastating fashion.

The entire division is a joke. Why wouldn’t a middling fringe contender be?
