Love Dill. I respect him the most of the top HW's as he faces everyone and anyone. The new people's champ!candyslim wrote: ↑05 May 2019, 18:38 I agree with that. As a big fan of Dillian, I worry for him and probably have a tendency to over estimate the threat, but I do think you're right about Rivas's power, stamina and pressure. You can't tell Whyte he keeps riding his luck though. Even if he knows that he'll keep taking risky fights. It's what I admire him for so I can't complain.
He puts most of his contemporaries to shame, and he is a champion without a belt in my opinion.

ooo yeah my choice too Povetkin vs Hrgovic in december
Re: Povetkin May 18. Still no Opponent Named
Is this even going ahead? Boxrec only has this fight on the card!

Surely BoxRec has got it wrong about Povetkin's fight on the 18th May? There's no undercard and it was only last week when he claimed his elbow hadn't fully-recovered from surgery. He did say he was in training though, but I suspect he's only performing a limited regimen (especially if he hasn't fully-recovered from his injury).

Classic retirement case, he’s had his cash cow fight, what exactly is he going to achieve now.
Re: Povetkin May 18. Still no Opponent Named
Don't know why they don't move his fight by a week and have him face Hunter, which they were originally planning.

yeah that would be a perfect scenario, good fight, though Povetkin would be a big favourite but then, he would be a big favourite against everyone except maybe 4 fighters

Re: Povetkin May 18. Still no Opponent Named
This would be quite interesting actually. Surely the WBC rank based purely on in ring performance, if Dillian was to say do this and post it to social media, would be good to see if they remove his ranking, and their justification for it.
It would show further how they just pick and choose, based on who knows.....
Re: Povetkin May 18. Still no Opponent Named
because boxing does not work like that. Every fight is worth a certain amount of money. Hunter will want 20 times more money fighting Povetkin than an opponent he can easily beat. TV companies offer an amount of money to make the card and you can only do your best with the budgets. As soon as someone understands the financial aspects they understand why fighters fight low grade opponents. From a fighters perspective he is a professional and usually has a manager to maximise the business affairs coupled with degree of risk. Every fighter will have other fighters they target and will have a price in mind. Until you have a sanctioning body or government ruling that they abide by a fair rankings system where the boxers ascend or descend by the actual results and it is coupled with staying compliant (not fighting completely unworthy opponents) things won't change because the manager/promoter/fighter want the least risk they can get away with.dagilechia wrote: ↑07 May 2019, 06:53 yeah that would be a perfect scenario, good fight, though Povetkin would be a big favourite but then, he would be a big favourite against everyone except maybe 4 fighters

Re: Povetkin May 18. Still no Opponent Named
The only thing Povetkin can achieve at this point of his career is to continue engaging in low-risk bouts against journeymen whilst waiting to receive a chance to earn a couple of million dollars being used as a stepping-stone or as a big-name stay-busy sacrificial lamb for the likes of Tyson Fury, Dillian Whyte, Oleksandr Usyk and Joe Joyce.Riddick Blowe wrote: ↑07 May 2019, 06:19 Classic retirement case, he’s had his cash cow fight, what exactly is he going to achieve now.
Povetkin will probably refrain from retiring whilst he’s still capable of commanding multi-million-dollar paydays, regardless of whether they’re fights he cannot possibly win.
I’m not completely righting off Povetkin by the way, but I do feel that his best days are behind him and many of his world-rated peers will very likely consider him as being ready-for-the-taking. The same also applies to his fellow veteran, Luis Ortiz.
Re: Povetkin May 18. Still no Opponent Named
I think there are a couple more decent paydays available for Povetkin, if he’s managed correctly for the remainder of his career. He’s a name and can be a high-level ‘opponent’ for someone prior to a title shot for example. I wouldn’t mind seeing him against Whyte for example...Riddick Blowe wrote: ↑07 May 2019, 06:19 Classic retirement case, he’s had his cash cow fight, what exactly is he going to achieve now.

I agree. One or two major paydays and then he has to decide if he wants to be a trial horse for the upcoming guys.chinarich wrote: ↑07 May 2019, 12:39 I think there are a couple more decent paydays available for Povetkin, if he’s managed correctly for the remainder of his career. even at this point he would be a big favourite vs Whyte.

I don't. No one is avoiding Pov.characters wrote: ↑07 May 2019, 13:12 I think he still got a very good shot against anyone that isn't AJ or Klitschko. I can very well understand that most boxers duck him, even despite the money. The WBC helped many of their ranked boxers to avoid him.

Oh, I see.characters wrote: ↑07 May 2019, 13:30 Oh yes, Wilder has, for years actually even today in fact and actually, many have. Only the real top guys challenged him.

The best last fight would be Povetkin vs. Ortiz in Russia. This fight might be pretty lucrative. As I know Ortiz has been mismanaged during his career, and this would be a good chance for him to get the life changing money.

I think Povetkin is the most avoided boxer in the heavyweight division for quite some years now. Only Klitschko and Anthony Joshua dared to challenge him, maybe Whyte might soon.
