Jerwin Ancajas vs Ryuichi Funai

Post by handsofstone »

Ancajas defends his IBF Super Flyweight title against the Japanese contender Funai on the Beterbiev/Kalajdzic card this weekend on box/nation, I like Ancajas but he's going a bit stale maybe, pretty sure this is his 7th defence and he still hast got that big fight yet and its showing in his performances, I never seen his last fight where he drew with Barrios but I seen the previous fight with Sultan and although he deserved his win he was flat and boring, the lack of competition is maybe starting to hinder him?

Never seen a Funai but I recognise some names on his record, he has a stoppage loss to Yamanaka and a MD loss to Ishida and theres a couple of names that sound familiar but not sure, he's been stopped a few times and i'd imagine Ancajas would have to have slipped a fair bit to be troubled here

Poor fight Arum needs to Ancajas a big fight because people are getting bored of him

Funai is retired on his stool after 6 rounds after taking a one sided beatdown, the only thing he showed was an incredible chin and heart but he took an absolute pasting at times there, Ancajas looked back to his best, sharp, fluid and excellent punch variety, the jab, right hooks, body shots all playing their part in breaking Funai down but it was the lead left hand which was the danger punch, he just walked Fuani onto it all night, Funai took a bad beatdown in the 4th and done well to not only go down somehow but make it out the round, things quietened down in the 5th but by the end of the 6th Ancajas was busting him up pretty bad and it was the right call to stop it, Funai too brave for his own good

Just watched. Ancajas a favourite of mine, he’s one of them fighters you still enjoy watching in very one sided fights.

He held his feet towards the end a bit more than he normally does. Put some great combos together from good angles. Love his really high, almost diving, lead right hook. But he’s taking the piss now, needs a good fight.

Him against Estrada would be superb, high level boxing with a good 110 punches a round each.

Impressive stuff from Ancajas. Deserves a unification fight or two,

Funai has an awesome chin & great heart but he could really do with some head movement, christ. Battered from pillar to post, mismatch really but better from Ancajas this time out.
