Ultimate Boxxer III: Middleweights - 10 May 2019

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

ULTIMATE BOXXER, Britain’s first boxing entertainment brand, is delighted to announce that it has signed a broadcast deal with BT Sport, starting with its first event of the year on Friday 10th May at The Indigo at The O2.

The deal will see a minimum of five ULTIMATE BOXXER events broadcast live in the UK and Ireland in the first year that will simulcast on BT Sport, BT Sports’ YouTube channel – available to anyone to watch for free, and dedicated boxing channel allegedly, with the second event confirmed for Friday 28th June in Manchester.

Created to provide a new boxing experience, ULTIMATE BOXXER will provide a lot of opportunities within the sport.

Eight talented fighters from around the UK battle it out in the high-paced elimination tournament in four quarter-finals of 3 x 3 minute rounds, followed by two semi-finals and one final to determine the winner who will win the large share of the prize money, a promotional deal and be catapulted up the rankings. An opportunity to represent their country in international finals is also on the line.

The product and events are designed to engage and attract the next generation of sports fans on a more regular basis.

Following two incredible test events, ULTIMATE BOXXER returns to the capital on May 10th for an unrivalled night of action and entertainment in the ultra-competitive middleweight division.

ULTIMATE BOXXER founder Ben Shalom, said, “It’s great to get this over the line with BT Sport who share the same vision to bring something extra to the boxing industry. British boxing has never been in such a healthy position and Ultimate Boxxer will present long-term opportunities for boxers whilst giving sports fans an experience they won’t forget. I’m really looking forward to getting started on May 10th with an extremely competitive card.”

ULTIMATE BOXXER Director Paulie Malignaggi, said, “When we started this last year we wanted to give the biggest platform possible to the competing fighters. It is great that BT have bought into the ambition to keep evolving the sport and also engage digital audiences. I’m very excited to watch some amazing stories unfold on this journey and see the tournaments evolve.”

Steve Norris, head of sports commercial rights, BT Sport said “Boxing is booming and it’s a great time to be a fan, with the sport growing at an enormous pace and gaining new audiences. Ultimate Boxxer is bringing a fresh new style to one of the oldest sports in the world and we think our viewers will love this addition to the wealth of Boxing they are already enjoying on BT Sport.”

ULTIMATE BOXXER premiered last April in the Welterweight division in a huge event at Manchester Arena. The thrilling action saw Northampton’s Drew Brown crowned the inaugural winner. UB II followed in November at The Indigo with the spotlight on the Light-Heavyweight class and in another dramatic night, Birmingham’s Shakan Pitters claimed the top prize.

The eight middleweights who will fight it out in search of glory in UB III are:

1. JOE HURN, Clacton, Essex, 10-0-1 (6)
Short Colour: Yellow
Built like a brick, the big puncher from Essex is aiming to blast his way through the fights. Has struggled for opportunities despite being highly rated. This is the type of fighter Ultimate Boxxer will help.

2. TEY-LYNN JONES, Southern Area
Champion, Basildon, Essex, 11-1-0 (2)

Short Colour: Blue
Defended his Southern Area title in his last fight and has sparred successfully with likes of world champions Billy Joe Saunders, James DeGale and George Groves. Extremely confident of success and a sworn vegan.

3. DERRICK ‘THE PUNCHING PREACHER’ OSAZE, Peckham, London, 6-0-0 (1)
Short Colour: Grey
Unbeaten in six fights, the Londoner has an unusual background. He as an ordained minister committed to a life of non-violence. He goes by the name of the “Punching Preacher”.

4. GRANT DENNIS, Former Southern Area Champion, Chatham, Kent, 12-1-0 (2)
Short colour: White
The ‘Go Getter’, a former Southern Area Middleweight Champion needed just 48 seconds to score a stunning KO victory in his last fight out. Has been unlucky not to go further with his only loss coming in a British title fight and will be looking at this event as his chance. Coming into the competition as the oldest competitor.

5. KEIRON CONWAY, Northampton, Northamptonshire, 10-0-0 (3)
Short colour: Pink
Tipped as the favourite. This undefeated hot-shot has tasted the high-life after featuring on the an Amir Khan undercard. He is now ready to make his move in the division.

6. JOSH GROOMBRIDGE, Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire, 7-1-0 (4)
Short Colour: Black
Big support and not to be underestimated. The dark horse who will be seeking a break through as a serious contender. He is a massive character with an enormous following and warns that he is not to be underestimated.

7. SEAN PHILLIPS, Surrey, 6-0
Short Colour: Red
Training out of the famous Peacock gym. The young, unbeaten, 22 year old has been tipped for a bright future under the watchful eye of top trainer Martin Bowers.

8. KAAN HAWES, Witham, Essex, 5-0-1
Short Colour: Green
No losses on his record and relatively unknown. Learnt his trade on the white collar scene after a previous career in professional football. He is an outsider with a big fanbase…Stranger things have happened…

ULTIMATE BOXXER, Britain’s first boxing entertainment brand, is delighted to announce that it has agreed a partnership deal with online casino and sportsbook operator MansionBet for its first events of 2019.

The agreement continues a successful partnership from MansionBet’s initial sponsorship of Ultimate Boxxer II: The Light-Heavyweights last November.

This week, Ultimate Boxxer announced a broadcast agreement with BT Sport that will see a minimum of five fights televised live in the UK and Ireland, commencing with Ultimate Boxxer III:

The Middleweights on Friday 10th May at The Indigo and with the next event confirmed for Friday 28th June in Manchester.

MansionBet will benefit from the large content distribution network Ultimate Boxxer has assembled. Ultimate Boxxer is becoming an attractive proposition for casual players who enjoy the tournament’s engaging and easy to understand format; equal matching of fighters; high level of excitement and the unpredictability of picking a winner.

The events attract mainstream sport fans and event goers from across the country. Shelly Suter Hadad, COO & MD at Mansion, said: “This is a tournament that has grown in popularity and being shown on BT Sport on prime time is a testament to that. We are thrilled to be supporting Ultimate Boxxer again and encouraging boxers who can compete and gain exposure on such a massive platform."

Official draw news for May 10 in London

The official draw for the first round of fights in Ultimate Boxxer III: The Middleweights has been made for the exhilarating elimination tournament on Friday 10th May at The Indigo at The O2.

UB III, sponsored by MansionBet, is exclusively live on BT Sports, BT Sports’ You Tube channel – available to anyone to watch for free – and the dedicated boxing channel allegedly.

The eight highly-rated contestants participating in UB III are Tey Lynn-Jones, Derrick Osaze, Kieron Conway, Grant Dennis, Sean Phillips, Josh Groombridge, Kaan Hawes and Joe Hurn as they battle it out to become The Ultimate Boxxer.

In attendance at BT Sports’ studio, where the draw was held, was the Former WBO World Heavyweight Champion Shannon “Lets Go Champ” Briggs, who picked out the balls to make the following fights:
********************************************************
THE DRAW

Odds supplied by MansionBet, the official bookmaker for UB III

Quarter-Final One: Kaan Hawes (5-0-1) 22/1 v Kieron Conway (10-0-0, 3 KO’s) 15/8

A great match up to kick things off between a boxer and fighter and Hawes comes up against the tournament favourite. Witham’s Hawes, from the white-collar circuit, is unbeaten in five fights and loves to have a brawl. Northampton’s Conway is well schooled with a good amateur pedigree and is a former England international, currently unbeaten in ten as a pro.

Quarter-Final Two: Tey Lynn Jones (11-1-0, 2 KO’s) 7/2 v Derrick Osaze (6-0-0, 1 KO) 10/1

A mouthwatering 50-50 fight and the best pick of the quarter-finals between two box-fighters with similar styles. Jones, from Grays, Essex, has the edge in experience having won and defended the Southern Area title and has more rounds under his belt, but the Puncher Preacher from Nottingham, by way of Peckham, is unbeaten and ready to cause an upset.

Quarter-Final Three: Sean Philips (5-0-1, 1 KO) 4/1 v Josh Groombridge (7-1-0, 4 KO’s) 14/1

A hard-to-call showdown between a boxer and fighter that pitches Peacock Gym trained Philips, who’s an excellent technician and unbeaten in six, against the raw and powerful Groombridge from Uttoxeter who started on the white-collar scene and is very heavy handed.

Quarter-Final Four: Joe Hurn (10-0-1, 6 KO’s) 7/1 v Grant Dennis (12-1-0, 2 KO’s) 3/1

An excellent match up between the big-hitting Hurn from Clacton against the skilled Dennis from Chatham. Dangerous Hurn has halted six out of 11, while Dennis has only lost once in 13, but has the experience being a former Southern Area champion and fell just short for the English belt.

The winner of Quarter-Final One will meet the winner of Quarter-Final Two and the winner of Quarter-Final Three will meet the winner of Quarter-Final Four.
********************************************************

ULTIMATE BOXXER founder Ben Shalom, said, “I’m stumped at picking a winner for any of the fights in the Quarter Finals, it’s that close. That’s what we want with Ultimate Boxxer, fights that are evenly balanced and when anything can happen in a split second that will add to the drama and suspense. In UB I and II combined we’ve had 27 knockdowns, that’s staggering across two shows and just shows that when fighters get in the ring for Ultimate Boxxer they go all out to win. I cannot wait to see who will eventually come out on top on May 10.”

Ultimate Boxxer III features Tey Lynn-Jones, Derrick Osaze, Kieron Conway, Grant Dennis, Sean Phillips, Josh Groombridge, Kaan Hawes and Joe Hurn as they battle it out to become Ultimate Boxxer on Friday 10th May at The Indigo at The O2.

An action packed undercard will see the return of the highly-rated and undefeated Light-Heavyweight talent and UB II winner Shakan Pitters and unbeaten super-middleweight prospect Idris Virgo who is out to prove to critics he is more than just a reality star.

Tey-Lynn Jones is fired up to secure stardom in Ultimate Boxxer III

https://www.ringnews24.com/2019/04/30/t ... oxxer-iii/

‘At Palace I played alongside (Wales international) Johnny Williams whilst at Chelsea, our youth manager was Brendan Rogers and the team included (Brentford FC’s) Josh McEachran and (European 200m sprint champion) Adam Gemili,’ says the 24 year old former Southern Area middleweight champion who hopes to sizzle in Ultimate Boxxer III at Indigo at The O2 on May 10th.

‘I want to be well known, recognised, invited to stuff. This can help secure a deposit on a house and catapult me to a bigger platform. I know I’ve the talent to reach British title level.’

After his footballing dreams were extinguished at 17, the one they call ‘Tey-sty’ started to shed surplus energy at the nearby Tilbury amateur boxing club. One thing led to another and he was soon a decorated amateur – scooping the Celtic Cup over in Ireland – then undefeated in a fistful of rowdy tear-ups on the Essex unlicensed circuit.

‘As a kid, I was quite chilled, a social butterfly so people are very surprised when they hear that I’m doing well at the boxing,’ disclosed Jones who is coached by his father Jason at the Venue Gym in Grays and managed by MTK Global.

Since debuting as a pro in March 2016, TLJ has stormed to 11 wins in 12 starts, accelerating his ring education as a spar hand to a number of world class talents in the capital’s fight factories.

‘Word got around the gyms that I can handle myself and top trainers started requesting me for their guys,’ he explains.

‘They’ve all got their own different qualities. Billy Joe Saunders has unreal speed, (James) DeGale was very unorthodox, George Groves had a great jab, Andy Lee was quality all-round. (Chris) Eubank Jr just tries to put it on ya!’

Of the eight UB3 entrants, Tey-Lynn stands as the joint tallest and only fellow Area champ Grant Dennis has boxed more pro rounds. Understandably, he is optimistic of emerging victorious.

‘I don’t think any of the lads are in this to make up the numbers or take a loss,’ says Jones who has been drawn against ‘Punching Preacher’ Derrick Osaze in the Quarter-Final.

‘Kaan (Hawes) and I have probably sparred a hundred rounds and have become good friends but we’ll both be keen to prove we’re the top one in our county. I’ve already shifted five grands’ worth of tickets.

‘The bookies have Kieron Conway as favourite but I feel I’ve the style to seriously unsettle him, take him out of his comfort zone. You simply won’t have time to pick opponents off. If you want to win, you’ll not be able to run. I doubt my height will be much of an advantage in this format.

‘But I like to be aggressive, sometimes overly so. I guarantee that I’ll make the fight happen. I always preferred the pace of the shorter amateur fights. My fitness allows me to go flat out, ferocious, for all three minutes of all three rounds. That’s my natural style; After fans have seen me once, they’ll be frothing to watch me again.

‘I win this because I want it most, I’ve got the biggest heart. I’ll not stop throwing until I’ve got that golden robe around my shoulders.’

I like these UB tourneys, the 1st 2 were great, haven't heard of any of these guys but hopefully we get a cracking night of boxing, I would've thought we would've seen a bit more of Brown and Pitters after they won the their tourneys

I quite enjoyed the last two tournaments, hopefully this will be decent too.

The format is the same as the old prizefighter shows we used to get on sky.

The only difference is that prizefighter winners usually went on a bit of a push towards domestic titles shortly after. I have heard little about the two previous UB winners, which is a shame.
