Except he hasn't beat Porter yet. And we don't know who Canelo will fight in September which could trump Garcia and possibly Porter.. Let's not act as if history has been written already.gilgamesh wrote: ↑10 May 2019, 19:12 I agree that beating Jacobs is more impressive than beating Garcia, but it's not more impressive than beating Garcia AND Porter. Canelo needs at least a 2nd solid win to be in the running for FOTY. He'll almost certainly have a bout in September. We'll be hearing an announcement by late June I'd imagine.

I am certainly presuming on the Spence vs Porter thing, I'm just saying the way it's looking at the moment, but yeah Canelo certainly may well top it with his opponent in September.

Porter is a Good fighter but he will get beat easy when these two square off Spence Jr by 10th round stoppage.

Re: Errol Spence vs. Shawn Porter - Aug/Sep 2019
The reigning two-time welterweight titlist has patiently waited for word that all terms are final for a planned unification bout with unbeaten Errol Spence Jr. The two have presumably agreed to all terms, down to such a fight being eyed for Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. What hasn’t yet come, though, is a date—official or otherwise.
“I’m ready to go,” Porter (30-2-1, 17KOs) stated from ringside at Soboba Casino in San Jacinto, Calif. while calling the action for Saturday’s edition of Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on FS1 telecast.
“Look, he came on to our show claiming he (wants the fight),” Spence explained to ringside colleague Chris Myers during Saturday’s telecast, further noting that he’s ready for the fight and just waiting on word from the higher-ups on when it will take place.

I already picked Spence by clearcut decision but TBH the 20-1 margin in the voting poll surprises me. Wonder who the dissenting vote was? Nobody mentions any prediction about Porter winning in their comments.

Hes a rough customer inside and Spence is better there and stronger. Errol seems better everywhere. Kind of like Duran/palomino to me. Competitive but one sided on the cards.Best Coast wrote: ↑11 Jun 2019, 19:09 I already picked Spence by clearcut decision but TBH the 20-1 margin in the voting poll surprises me. Spence stops him. Porter isn't slick enough to avoid the damage he'll have to absorb. I don't believe he's tough enough either, despite being pretty durable.

Re: Errol Spence vs. Shawn Porter - Aug/Sep 2019
Not me. I am looking at the records, the skills, and the gifts.
Porter has a terrific record of fighting top competition and always being competitive. His losses have been to top welters at the top of their games (Brook and Once Upon A Time Thurman). Porter has a handful of good wins, most notably (for me) v Alexander in 2013 and v Danny last year. He has also defeated Broner, but he was dropped and hung on late.
Porter has underrated skills, due to his spoiler style. He has excellent foot speed, good head movement, and decent combos. He is a spoiler who pressures phenomenally well, turning fights into near mma level wrestling events, but he also has good traditional boxing skills when the situation calls for it.
Porter’s gifts include huge heart, a great motor, good chin, and enough pop to get his opponents’ attention. He is a bit short on height and arm length.
Spence’s record is underrated. We are frustrated because he has not faced Crawford, Thurman, Pac, etc., but he has stopped formidable competition, including Brook, Bundu, and Peterson. He whitewashed Mikey, although failing to stop him.
Spence’s skills are formidable. He can fight equally effectively behind the jab or on the inside. He has efficient footwork, tremendous combos, an excellent speed / quickness, His ring management is superior. My one criticism has been his disdain for head movement. He proved that he had that v Mikey.
Spence’s gifts are as formidable as his skills. He is a very large welter with very good length. He has shown an excellent chin, and a nonstop motor. He is the epitome of “cool, calm, and collected,” in the ring (so far). He seems iron tough bodywise. He has good power, especially cumulatively.
I cannot see Porter having the pop to keep Spence at bay. He cannot fight Errol at distance or he will be eviscerated over 12 rounds, even if he makes it that far. He is going to have to go spoiler which is a recipe for broken ribs and a concussion v Spence.
Spence will try to start cautiously, observing what Porter brings. He will keep distance and measure Porter behind the jab. Within two rounds Porter will realize that his only hope of victory is to make it ugly. That is when he will find out that he isn’t in the ring with Danny or Broner or Thurman. Spence will attack his body viciously. It will be an ugly war for a number of rounds until Porter realizes that this nut won’t spoil. He will try to box Spence, but he will be outgunned there too.
The questions will be:
1. Can Porter gut it out to the final bell?
2. Will Spence feel that he is safely enough ahead on the cards (like v Mikey) to allow Porter to survive.
The only way Porter can make this close or possibly win is if he can hurt Spence seriously and early. If not, Porter (who is one of my favorites) is in for a sustained beatdown that he will be praised for if he can reach the final bell.
Re: Errol Spence vs. Shawn Porter - Aug/Sep 2019
We should all be rooting for a Spence win by convincing KO as it will turn up the heat on the fight we MUST see.
Spence vs Crawford is not only the best fight to make in the sport but it will end up being a historical type bout that we will mention along with the other great WW battles between the best fighters in generations. No, not that one. Please don’t include Manny and Floyd in that.

Re: Errol Spence vs. Shawn Porter - September 2019
In this video interview with Fight Hub TV, IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence talks a bit about Jermell Charlo’s recent performance this weekend and where things currently stand with him to unify titles with Shawn Porter. Check out some excerpts below...
Spence on what he made of Jermell Charlo’s performance:
“He did what he was supposed to do. It was a showcase fight, he knocked him out, spectacular performance. I mean he did his thing, so now he just gotta wait around for the fight that he wanted.”
On what he thought of Tony Harrison pulling out of the Charlo rematch with an injury:
“I think he’s injured...I heard a lot of things too [about how he got hurt] but I can’t tell you what happened.”
On how different he thinks a Harrison-Charlo rematch ends up being:
“I don’t know, I think it’ll be a lot better than the first one. You know, I think it’s gonna be action-packed, I think Jermell is gonna try to push the pace. I think Tony will throw a lot more punches and I think, you know, it’ll be a way better fight.”
On how his time off has been since beating Mikey Garcia:
“Time off’s been good. You know, I can’t wait to get back in the ring sometime in September and, you know, looking to unify one of the belts, get the other belts, and become undisputed welterweight champion of the world, then move up to super welterweight and become undisputed in that weight class.
“When I get all the belts at 147, then I’ll move up and get all the belts at ‘54.”
On how close a Shawn Porter fight is:
“Oh it’s a done deal. It’s a done deal. Yeah, September for sure, it’s a done deal.”
On why the fight still hasn’t been officially announced yet:
“It’ll be announced. It’s a done deal, though. September-something...”
On how he thinks that fight plays out:
“Action-packed. You know, Shawn Porter gotta come to fight. You know, he’s always in entertaining fights, I’m always in entertaining fights, so I think it’ll go exactly how people think it’ll go. You know, he’s always in entertaining fights, taking punches, and I’m always in entertaining fights, punishing people, so I think it’ll play out the same way.”
On if he expects Porter to try to rough him up or box with him:
“I don’t know but I’ll be ready for anything that he brings to the table. It really don’t matter. Whatever he bring to the table I’ll be ready for.”
On how Porter’s rough-and-tumble style meshes with his:
“I don’t make nothing of it. If he tries it, it won’t go right. So, hopefully — whatever you want to do, you wanna box, you wanna fight. You know, with me, I’ma dictate the fight and he gonna do whatever I want him to do.”

Just ignore Gilga. Dude is legitimately retarded.
Good win for Spence, beating Mikey, but it was a Top 10 PFP AT LIGHTWEIGHT who fought at WELTERWEIGHT. Big difference. Good win, not remarkable in any way though...no KD, stoppage, KO, TKO, etc. Mikey - the LW - was hardly even hurt in the fight.
That win did not raise Spence's profile in any way

Spence said he was ok going the distance. He wanted to show off that he can box really well. Be patient etc.

Looks like Errol needs to shed some pounds before this excellent matchup!!

A huge looking Errol Spence Jr. and a much smaller Shawn Porter met with PBC on Fox this week to discuss their upcoming unification fight that is expected to take place in September. The 5’9 1/2″ Spence (25-0, 21 KOs) not only towered over the 5’7″ Porter (30-2-1, 17 KOs), but he looked a lot heavier than him.
Spence needs to lose weight
IBF welterweight champion Spence is going to have to take off a lot of weight for him to get down to the 147 pound weight limit for the fight against WBC champion Porter. Spence admitted this week that he doesn’t have a nutritionist to assist him with his meals, but he has the money to hire one. He says he’s had problems making weight, but he can still do it. However, Spence is going to need to start dropping weight soon if he wants to make weight for the fight with Porter. Spence is looking as big as a house right now. Judging by Spence’s size, he’s not going to be able to continue to make the 147 pound limit for too much longer.

he looks fine for a fight that not till another 3 months or so

I found it funny that Spence said that he doesn't have a nutritionist
Re: Errol Spence vs. Shawn Porter - September 2019
There was nothing he could have done against Garcia that wouldn't have drawn these "he was a little guy so so what" reactions, but he utterly controlled pretty much every second of that fight.
Re: Errol Spence vs. Shawn Porter - September 2019
spence is obviously a top fighter , but i feel he is being way overrated. His victory over brook has a big question mark over it ..was brook the same fighter that narrowly beat porter by the time spence got hold of him? ggg bust him up at middleweight, exposed the fragility of his orbitals etc, took away his 0. peterson was also not the fighter he once was, and at a lighter weight. garcia had no business at welter. Spence has had it pretty easy so far, and he is gonna begin to struggle to make the weight sooner or later.
Im not saying porter will win, but i think it will be a close fight. porter is an experienced world level tough fighter, maybe at his peak.

He didn't look at his peak against Ugas.
Hesitant. Uncertain. His nonstop aggressiveness vanished. Lucky to get the decision.
That Porter will get battered by Spence.
