Buchanan story.

Ken was working on a building site and was pretty anonymous.
One day a couple of guys walking past, recognised Buchanan, and turned back. They then got out cigarette packets and got Ken to sign them.
One of the brickies seeing this turned to his mate and said , " That guy must be some f***** " joiner ".

Josh Taylor up there with Buchanan - are you having a laugh? Buchanan is Britain's best boxer since the second world war. Laguna washed up ?? Ken fought him, in his own territory, in the middle of the day in over 100 degree heat, with the promoters deliberately placing Buchanan in the uncovered corner of the ring, Ken's dad had to borrow and umbrella. And please remember - 15 round fights !!!

Mate I love Buchanan and Ive read his book and seen a couple documentaries so I know the anicdotes, I know Taylor has some way to go but I reckon in a couple years he'll be ahead of Buchanan on ability, whether he can be remembered by the Yanks and overall boxing world will probably be a different manner, too much dilution with titles and networks I just hope his talent isn't wasted by his teams or others teams reluctance to make career defining fights

Ive been watching a fair bit of Laguna lately, love his style and rate him highly but the only time I ever hear him mentioned is in regards to Buchanan, don't hear him mentioned a lot elsewhere, also if he were active now he'd be classed as average because he suffered a few losses early in his career, rightly or wrongly that's how it would be

Promoter Barry McGuigan is expecting fireworks when his man, undefeated Josh Taylor, challenges dangerous world champion Ivan Baranchyk for the IBF super lightweight title in Glasgow on Saturday.

The contest is part of the semi-finals of the World Boxing Super Series. The winner will face WBA champion Regis Prograis.

"Despite the fact we believe he didn't want to come to Scotland, he will fight very, very hard," promoter and former champion McGuigan told BBC Scotland. "It's a terrific scrap and Josh will have to be at his very best."

McGuigan expects the champion to make it a war, after getting outboxed in the early stages.

"He'll realise that he can't outbox Josh," McGuigan said. "I think he'll come at him."

McGuigan, a former world champion, does not want Taylor to get lured into a brawl. He wants the skilled fighter to box smart from start to finish.

"It's about being disciplined," McGuigan said. "He has to be cool and calm.

"Josh has to be on the ball from start to finish because this guy will be dangerous for the entire fight. What's important for me is that Josh keeps his head. I think it's best to make it a boxing match and he has to be cautious early on."

"I don't think he was switched on for that fight," he added. "He had a few issues outside of the ring and wasn't as focused as normal. The early rounds weren't going his way either. When you can switch yourself on, and be able to turn it around against a world-class operator like Postol, that just shows you his capabilities. That was the fight that turned it around for him."

Still looks like a lot of tickets left..

https://www.ticketmaster.co.uk/world-bo ... dro_artist

Many still available ringsied and upper tier.

Anyone in South Scotland or North of England should even be getting the cheaper tickets for this if affordable.

2 very good fights IMO. P4P superstar Nayou Inoue.

I don't think he'll dispatch Rodriguez as quick as he did McDonnell and Papayi~

Sky Sports Action from 9pm

Sky agreed a deal with WBSS.

They literally only showing the 2 main event fights though.

I think they should have the undercard on Youtube.

Why would you. Fury is boring to watch even if he has a live body in front of him.

Watched Baranchyk's fight against Yigit, due to him being a southpaw, albeit a European level one at that.

Baranchyk throws too wide for me, and seems pretty reckless and is defensively lacking.

I either see Taylor winning wide on points and probably bashing Baranchyk up pretty badly in the process, or a late stoppage.

I think Taylor-campbell would be an interesting one down the line actually.

Josh Taylor on how cannabis oil has helped with his prep for world title fight against Ivan Baranchyk

Josh Taylor plans to smoke out Ivan Baranchyk after turning to cannabis oil to finally find his inner calm.

The Tartan Tornado is preparing for the biggest night of his life on Saturday as he fights for the Belarussian's IBF world super-lightweight title in Glasgow .

The SSE Hydro clash - which doubles as the World Boxing Super Series ' semi-final - will put the southpaw Scots' temperament to the test like never before as he looks to complete his boyhood ambition of becoming world champion.

But Taylor insists he has never been more relaxed heading into a big fight.

Former Cyclone Promotions stablemate George Groves revealed earlier this week how he would often wake during the night to find energetic Taylor shadow boxing.

The 28-year-old, though, says he is rested and ready for the undefeated Baranchyk, known as The Beast, after discovering the calming powers of CBD oil.

Taylor, who has recently moved from his Prestonpans home town on the outskirts of Edinburgh to London, said: "I'm surprisingly laid back.

"I'm sleeping like a baby, which is probably down to the preparations.

"I'm settled in London, I'm not living out of a suitcase in a hotel but with my girlfriend and dog in the flat.

"I'm relaxed, focused and super confident. I can't wait. I'm taking this CBD oil, so maybe that's why I am so relaxed. Maybe that's why I'm so chilled out.

"Joking aside, it does help me relax and focus. I've always had trouble sleeping at night, being a bit hyper and going over things, but the last few camps I've taken that stuff and it's really helped me.

"I'm also happier and more settled down south. I can go back to the flat after my sessions in the gym, rather than just hanging about.

"I can walk the dog, go for something to eat, go and have a sleep. I think that's a key factor."

London may now be his permanent base but Scotland will always be home and Taylor hopes the surge of pride he gets returning north of the border can take him to victory this weekend.

He said: "It's always great to fight in front of my home fans, especially when it's the biggest fight of my career.

"This is an opportunity to become a world champion in front of my fans, my friends and family. It's a dream come true.

"Of course, I miss Scotland. I miss the banter and the carry on . The patter is not the same down there.

"But I'm doing what I have to do to focus on my career and give it my best shot.

"Touch wood it's not the case but if I don't get to become world champion in this fight or the next, at least I'll be able to say I gave it 100 per cent."

Taylor has been fast-tracked to the top of his weight division by promoter Barry McGuigan, with his first world title shot coming just 15 fights into his professional career.

At Wednesday's pre-fight press conference the 26-year-old scoffed when Taylor insisted he had identified flaws in his armour but the Scot has promised he will not be laughing come Saturday night.

"I think he believes he'll come here and walk through me," said Taylor. "It'll be a shock to him when I hit him, and hit him, and hit him hard.

"He's never been hit by anyone yet so he will be shocked by my speed and power."

Taylor would rip Campbell apart imo. Too big, too strong, too fresh. Stoppage by a sharp, hurtful body shot

Can't say for sure mate. Hopefully it is..

I think Sky should use the Mix channel better. Could just put undercard fights on there.

The closer this gets, the more I go back to my initial gut reaction and think Taylor outboxes him close but clear. 116-112 area.

I think Postol beats Baranchyk on his day, for the same reasons Taylor does. This card has really got my attention in a big way, can’t wait.

I posted earlier that these are probably my two favourite current fighters.

I’m even excited thinking about Tete/Burnett/Nery/Ouballi down the road for the WBSS winner. If one fighter comes out clearly on top, I think they’ve got a good claim to top 118er ever.

I really like them on YouTube, HDMI cables are about 7 quid and the stream quality is very good. WBSS is just great for the fans.

Sky Sports have picked up the rights to the WBSS in the UK now, just in case you weren't aware :salut:

Fair enough - it was decent on YouTube to be fair, good quality and accessible to more people but money talks!

It really bothered me when loads of people were moaning that it wasn’t on the telly.

It’s actually impossible to make all boxing fans happy.
