Fury to face Charr next
Fury to face Charr next
I just watched a report that Fury will face Charr next. If I got that much money to face Schwarz and then Charr, I'd have taken it in a heartbeat! I'm finding it hard to believe this is true, but worth mentioning.

Charr is probably even worse than Schwarz

How many people are actually going to watch the Schwarz and (potential) Charr fights? Eventually ESPN will have to force him into a competitive fight to get their money's worth but I can't blame Fury for taking some easy paydays.
Re: Fury to face Charr next
I didn’t realise that Charr had fought Seferi recently and didn’t even stop him...
Obviously, this fight (should it happen) is Fury’s ‘gimme’ for another title

His nickname should be - Manuel "cup of" Charr

Re: Fury to face Charr next
I agree. Not many. Hardcore and casual fans have nothing to see here.JohnMcMinn wrote: ↑14 May 2019, 17:00 How many people are actually going to watch the Schwarz and (potential) Charr fights? Re: Fury to face Charr next
Does this mean Joe Joyce would be his mandatory should Fury survive this murderers row?
Re: Fury to face Charr next
AJ vs Andy Ruiz, Wilder vs Breazeale, Fury vs Schwarz and Charr....Heavyweights really testing themselves this year huh?
I guess I'd be content to make good money against easier opposition too. I'm sure they all know they eventually got face the music, and put themselves to the test against the biggest possible names, but they're in no hurry about it.
At least Breazeale was Wilder's mandatory so there's that excuse, and Andy Ruiz ain't bad I guess given that he's a late sub. Better than Schwarz and Charr in both cases

I remember when people were complaining about the possibility of AJ vs Whyte at Wembley. Look what we get instead.

Seriously ironic! I had forgotten about that!JohnMcMinn wrote: ↑14 May 2019, 17:36 I remember when people were complaining about the possibility of AJ vs Whyte at Wembley. Look what we get instead.
Re: Fury to face Charr next
Ironically I would quite like to see Charr and Schwarz get it on. At least it might be competitive and we might be in doubt about the likely winner, which is more than you can say for either of them taking on Fury (Hughie yes, Tyson no).
Nice one Mr. Arum. You're paying top dollar for this sh1t, and for depriving boxing fans of the opportunity of watching Wilder v Fury II. You're my hero.
p.s. I suspect Charr is better than Schwartz but neither are likely to worry anyone in the top ten.

I was looking forward to that. Dazn needs subscriptions, they won't get one from Ruiz.JohnMcMinn wrote: ↑14 May 2019, 17:36 I remember when people were complaining about the possibility of AJ vs Whyte at Wembley. Look what we get instead.

How dare Fury look past Schwarz like that!

Re: Fury to face Charr next
There are a lot of comments about Fury being paid ‘top dollar’ for these early ESPN fights.
Have the details actually been revealed? All I have seen is ‘deal worth $100m.
Arum isn’t a fool and has surely factored in how unlikely it is for Fury to see out the entirety of the contract.
It may well be $500k per fight plus $50m for a WBC/WBO/IBF/WBA Super fight or some similar arrangement.

The deal was 80m over 5 Fights - so Arum will be looking for his cash out eventually v Joshua or Wilder.leejonesjnr wrote: ↑15 May 2019, 01:46 There are a lot of comments about Fury being paid ‘top dollar’ for these early ESPN fights.

So he’s got to protect his investment initially so Charr makes sense with a belt available.

You don’t seem to understand my point.
$100k + $100k + $100k + $100k + $79.6m = $80m
$15m + $15m + $15m + $15m + $20m = $80m

Re: Fury to face Charr next
Wilder, Joshua and Fury are probably taking easier bouts to marinate interest in their eventual round-robin tournament, where the profits have to be inevitably split between three broadcasters (i.e. ESPN, DAZN & Fox/Showtime).
And besides, many of the hardcore boxing fraternity, as well as mainstream casuals, will still tune in to watch these moderately uncompetitive bouts.
Bob Arum, Al Haymon and Eddie Hearn probably believe that it’s possible to make profits from lacklustre headline boxing events. And let’s face it, all three of these guys know more than we do.

I imagine the truth lies somewhere between these two extremes. We cannot know how the five fight deal is structured other than by Fury's reaction, which being rather like a dog with two dicks suggests to me a deal closer to your second scenario than your first.
Of course I could be wrong.

It will be interesting to see which of those 2 scrubs lasts longer against Fury.

They might both last the distance.Best Coast wrote: ↑16 May 2019, 03:56You might just be right.
