Marvelous vs The Spinks Jinx...What if...,?
What if Marvelous Marvin Hagler would have challenged the great Undisputed Light-heavyweight Champion Michael Spinks circa 1983-85? What would have happened?
Re: Marvelous vs The Spinks Jinx...What if...,?
Spinks would destroy him. Spinks was way too big for Hagler.
Re: Marvelous vs The Spinks Jinx...What if...,?
Spinks in less than 1 round, like Foster would do to Monzon.

Spinks on points. Nobody south of heavyweight destroys Hagler
Re: Marvelous vs The Spinks Jinx...What if...,?
Let's see: Marvin Johnson, Matthew Saad Muhammad, Bob Foster, Victor Galindez, John Conteh, to name a few.
Re: Marvelous vs The Spinks Jinx...What if...,?
kinda a strange fanstasy matchup , no? when a guy is this outsized hes not beating a top quality fighter like spinks
Re: Marvelous vs The Spinks Jinx...What if...,?
Spinks would destroyed Hagler.Marvin to small for him.
Re: Marvelous vs The Spinks Jinx...What if...,?
Well If Roy Jones and James Toney could beat John Ruiz,
Then Hagler would have a good chance against...…..Ruiz.
BUT NOT SPINKS.
However, I wouldn't mind adding Spinks and Hagler to the list of folks who gave Ruiz a good hyding.
I hope I've put this thread on a more sensible trajectory.
Hey Elmer, for fun let's let Monzon have a crack at Ruiz as well.
But let's keep all the MW's away from Michael. He plays a bit rough.

Re: Marvelous vs The Spinks Jinx...What if...,?
Hagler had one of the Best Chins in boxing not just the Middleweight division Spinks even with his Jinx won't be knocking Hagler out if Michael tried that he would probably end up punching himself out and getting beat by the smaller man I think Michael would have plenty of respect for Marvin in that regard I believe Michael would fight smart and win a Clear cut UN DECISION.
Re: Marvelous vs The Spinks Jinx...What if...,?
Marvin moves up to LHW, he's going to find that some things are not in his favor. And fighting Michael Spinks is one of them. If the Jinx catches him, he's going down. And it won't be a decision loss either.

Re: Marvelous vs The Spinks Jinx...What if...,?
Maybe the extra 15 pounds would be too much for Marvelous? We would have never known. But, I believe that that is the logic in this fight. Spinks Jinx would be too big, I guess.
Re: Marvelous vs The Spinks Jinx...What if...,?
5" height advantage would be difficult to overcome at the very least. Marvin was under 5'10". He wasn't a large MW and probably one of the reasons he never moved up. Spinks would poleaxe him, tough he was.elmersalsa wrote: ↑14 May 2019, 12:43 Maybe the extra 15 pounds would be too much for Marvelous? We would have never known. I'm with this. Spinks on PTS. No way he's stopping hagler. He had an iron chin.

He's getting knocked out, it's unavoidable. And thank god he wasn't fighting Foster, we know how that would go. Borderline tragic.

That's what people said about Holmes/spinks and hagler/Leonard along with countless others. The most I ever made on a fight was pac/Oscar. I think Mike takes a measured decision, but Marvin would be much faster. No walk in the park, no ko.

Just taking a look at the records involved, Qawi did take Spinks the distance losing a decision.
I know every fight is different, and it's not like Hagler is a Qawi clone. Nevertheless, I don't think it's a stretch to believe that Hagler who was every bit as rugged (Qawi was a tank it's true) and a more versatile fighter could at least be competitive here...
I have to ask those who may recall, was there ever a time when Hagler even considered moving up? It doesn't seem like there was a lot of reason for him to do it, but it's interesting that he is one of very few ultra successful fighters who stayed in one division for his entire career.
Outside of heavyweight of course..

It was discussed a few times. Besides the size leap, the bigger fights and money were moving up to him.jas80s wrote: ↑15 May 2019, 01:02 Just taking a look at the records involved, Qawi did take Spinks the distance losing a decision.
