Dana White: After Summer - I'm Making All of My Boxing Moves

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Since 2017, UFC President Dana White has stated numerous times that he intends to enter the world of boxing with his own promotional company - Zuffa Boxing.

In the last few months, White has been making deals with several boxing promoters, like Roy Jones Jr. and Lou DiBella, to stream their non-televised events on UFC Fight Pass.

White came together with Showtime in 2017, for the second largest pay-per-view event in history when UFC superstar Conor McGregor challenged Floyd Mayweather at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

White has tried, without success, to sign several top boxers - like four division champion Mikey Garcia.

According to White, he wants to rebuild the sport and elevate the entire industry.

“What I don’t like what [boxing] is doing if how they’re not fighting the best guys out there right now,” White said to CNN.

“They have [Deontay] Wilder and [Tyson] Fury who just fought to a draw in an incredible fight that people loved. The rematch isn’t happening with those two, and neither one of those two are going to fight [Anthony] Joshua. These guys could do a round robin fight, fight each other. You know, both guys could fight Joshua and they’d kill it. They’d make so much money and they would bring so much energy and life back to boxing. But these guys just keep shooting themselves in the foot.”

It will be interested to see what White can put together.

In the last two years, he's been involved in very heated verbal wars with Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya, Top Rank CEO Bob Arum, and Showtime Sports head Stephen Espinoza. In several interviews, White vowed to never do business with any of the three.

“I am making all my boxing moves after this summer. When this summer is over, you’ll be hearing a lot about what I’m doing in the sport of boxing,” White said.

I think I'd trust Dana Whyte less than I would Don King

I cannot think for the life of me why White would venture into a dying sport like boxing. Must be his ego. Can't see him having any success.

If he thinks he can fix it, he's in for the shock of his life.

If he can rattle some cages to promote some change, it'll be worth it for us anyway.

He definitely can't hurt me. One boxing card like a typical UFC card would be awesome. Boxers are so massively overpaid, he won't be able to handle that.

Agreed. And it will be difficult at best to roll back those paydays.

And if Whyte thinks he can sign fighters for peanuts like the majority of his UFC fighters. He's nuttier than a squirrel turd

No worries, a buddy of mine shot me a text. The info originated from an attorney. We'll see.

I wouldn't be surprised if al was still involved. Spending those other guys money gained al a lot of loyalty with those fighters. If it happens, obviously. My source is in boxing, but he also hates haymon.

This could actually work.

Dana can create his own little boxing universe. A boxing league sortof what UFC is on MMA. All he needs is a platform and a couple of names to get it started. Look at how fast the bare knuckle thing got noticed just by adding Paulie and whats left of the McGreggor story line.

No need to have every boxer on board. The big names are not fighting each other anyway so all he needs to do is build big names of his own. I would be really interested in a boxing organization that make rankings mean something.

Not sure how many of you follow MMA but the match making has been awesome lately. Lesnar, McGregor are the big names that bring extra attention but on a monthly basis you get what would be the equivalent of a Josesito Lopez vs Mauricio Herrera or Andre Berto vs Thomas Dulorme to give you examples. I mean fighters that in boxing would just be cannon fodder for the A side in a fight you know they wont win but matched together make it a pickem fight.
