We don't take him seriously because he is just promoting himself. He's not helping his popularity but it is what it is.

Has any boxer who has fatally injured another fighter ever been charged with murder?

Why would Wilder? It's legally sanctioned violence.

Unless he does something beyond the rules that results in an opponent's death, Wilder would hardly be charged with any crime.

All he said was that he wants a body on his record. He didn't threaten to do it by whatever means neccesary. He didn't even threaten to do it period.

As usual, much ado about nada.

The difference between this and other cases, unless you have examples of otherwise, Wilder has stated his intention. In boxing, which is already a controversial sport treading a fine line in many countries/states, it would be very easy to lose that sanctioning when someone who intends to kill someone succeeds in killing someone and uses consent as an an excuse in criminal law. The commission would be held accountable at least to some extent for sanctioning it "when they knew about the threat and risks" etc. and politicians would jump on it (regardless as to whether you agree with this, it is likely). The controversy would not be brushed off that easily and all for a bit of WWE drama which thrills a few "macho" men, the sport faces problems.

..if I'm a person in the public eye and I openly claim among other things (quote) "This is the only sport where you can kill a man and get paid for it at the same time...so why not use my right to do so?" ...don't think this should be left unnoticed.. :shame:

The opponent also has something to say in all this.

He's entitled to defend himself from that brutish thug Deontay Wilder.

The opponent can even kill Wilder in the ring, and that's okay too.

Well, as long as he doesn't announce his intentions, ahead of time. Otherwise, it must be a crime.

Oh yeah! Rodriguez points. We'll see in a few hours! (I might be overly optimistic on Saunders, but wouldn't be the first time, or last)

He says he wants to either kill or cripple Breazeale in front of the eyes of his young son, that's sick.

If a patient of a surgeon dies then he won't get charged with murder, but if he says he wants to cripple a patient he does deserve to end up in prison. That's not odd is it?

If you're not doing anything illegal, it's not murder. It's that simple.

Nobody goes to jail for making a general statement about taking a life. It's the act that's important. Not the verbiage.

If Wilder actually fatally injures Breazeale tonight, nothing happens to him....as long as he didn't blatantly break boxing's rules to gain the scalp.

Both he and Breazeale are legally entitled to end the others life tonight, and there won't be any legal action taken against the survivor.

It's allowed. It's sanctioned violence. The words are meaningless.

The doctor won't be charged with any crime for simply stating he wants to cripple a patient. Only if he ends up crippling a patient through suspected malpractice might his words come back to haunt him. Might. But the comment alone is is hardly actionable.

It's very hard to get arrested just for making a comment. Even a tasteless one. Thankfully.

I was at the Barclays tonight. Deontay shook hands and took pics with fans inside the arena for a solid 20 mins after the fight and another 20 mins outside the arena on his way back to his hotel. He was very very gracious and very warm and engaging to everyone. You learn more about the true character of a fighter in how they interact with spectators than you do in pre-fight media quotes which are often marketing based. Wilder is a good
dude.

Im a 39 year old man. I don’t put these athletes
on a pedestal. We hung out in the arena as we waited for it to clear out. We hung out front as we waited for the lot to clear out on the way out. This was just my observations of his interactions with many people. He must have taken 200 pictures
easy. I did not approach him.
