AJ v Wilder poll (19th May 2019) - post Breazeale

After watching the Breazeale demolition and knockout, who would you favour if AJ and Wilder fought next.

(We can do another poll after the AJ fight in a fortnight, and could be interesting to compare results.)

I'll go first.

AJ is still a better schooled and skilled fighter than Wilder. Still bigger and physically stronger. Both have power, but Wilder's is concussive and lights out while AJ has a more thudding, forceful shot. Both are vulnerable. Both have been stunned and dug deep to come back and showed an attitude of not giving up. Wilder is a complete effing amatuer at timees and you'd imagine AJ would try to outbox him, fight smart and not overcommit, waiting for an opportunity to hurt WIlder and then overwhelm him but I have a feeling that Wilder is going to detonate a huge shot like last night and turn out AJ's lights.

Sensational knockout win for Wilder is my vote.

Joshua. I think he has enough movement and accuracy to take Wilder out in something of a shootout.

Wilder has the bigger one shot power but it’s a little harder for him to land. Joshua carries enough power to take Wilder out with one shot too so the difference in power isn’t important imo, they both carry enough to stop the other.

I was impressed with Wilders power last night. I think the heavier Wilder takes Fury out in any rematch.

Nothing that happened last night changed my mind. Joshua wins by stoppage. Might be a few hairy moments along the way for him. Brezeale pushed him back with one right hand off the ropes and wobbled him, Joshua will land on him and jump all over him.

I can agree with you. Joshua will look better until he gets caught. And he very likely will, if he just tries to cautiously outpoint Wilder. Yes, AJ needs to be very cautious, but he also needs to find openings and time his bombs. He needs to KO Wilder first and he has the basis for it. So I favor Joshua, but I won't be surprised, if Wilder knocks Joshua the eff out.

Both Wilder's and Joshua's chins are good, but both AJ and Wilder won't take clean punches of each other, I believe. So it's a who-lands-first contest to a great extent.

Your talking about a guy that got put on his arse by an old wlad. After last night I saw a straight right hand ( no windmill) wlad couldn’t finish AJ but wilder can do it all night and looks to be improving

Great discussion and equally good points being made. I side with Joshua. He's very clever ,using his defence and caution over the first few rounds while moving Wilder onto his back foot. Around the 8/9/10 Joshua sees his chance and Wilder folds after several heavy clean shots from Joshua.

An old wlad is the hardest punching heavyweight since Lewis ,I would say the fact AJ got up to win after being floored as a positive not a negative

I’m not so sure on that. Wilder may be improving, although he looked terrible against Fury. Joshua has improved considerably since Wlad.

I also don’t look too much in to how long it takes someone to comprehensively beat somebody. As long as Joshua beats Ruiz comfortably, we shouldn’t over analyse it.

I agree it would be great for him to a big number on him though, would really set the scene for Joshua/Wilder. Wilder has already said he could be attending the fight.

Fury set the formula for beating wilder. Wilder reaches and to make it miss it’s an old fashion move back a step, move to the side, land a one two and tie up. Breezale looked every bit the American footballer he is. May has well been a punch back he has zero head movement

I see lots of people saying that AJ will try to avoid the fight after last night, I don’t think it will make the slightest difference, it’s clear as daylight that AJ and Hearn want it and that Wilder and his people seem to be doing everything possible to avoid it, they have more or less said so recently. The DAZN deal would have paid him 20 million for the same fight he had last night and they turned it down, does anybody think he got close to that last night?

It’s a question that can only be answered in the ring. All of the top 3 have the tools to beat each other.

I’ve gone for Wilder as I think he probably learned something from sharing 12 rounds with Fury. I think he’s going to fight that little bit more intelligently now.

Brezeale has always been a walking punch bag but I didn’t expect him to go in one like like that.

I've always said Fury is the best heavyweight out there. He schooled Wilder but got caught twice by p4p the hardest hitter in the game. He's smart enough to learn and won't get caught in a re-match.

Wilder will knock Joshua out.
