Joe Joyce

Post by rhino222 »

Failed to impress me tonight. He looks so so slow and cumbersome. I think Dubois and Gorman both beat him.

Ustinov was even slower than Joyce but still caught him a few times. Even my cat kep ducking as the wild slow hooks were slung from both sides.

Adam Booth will make Joyce a bit more elusive, but im not sure how he will increase his speed or ingrained style. I hope Adam can as Joyce is a very likeable fella and Id like to see him reach the top.

While he gets stick from the likes of us for being slow etc, whenever other heavies are interviewed they always talk really well about him..
Partially maybe because he is a nice bloke, but they always also talk about size, stamina, engine, awkwardness and being damn difficult to beat. Most heavies are familiar with each other, there aren't a lot about, so they have all sparred.
While clearly Joyce has some obvious limitations, on the other hand most fighters will still find him really hard to fight and beat.

I’d love to see Joyce against a decent heavyweight, Stiverne and Ustinov were too shopworn, as I believe we’ll see a more composed performance.
Joyce turned pro at a late age and I think he’s trying rush to the top and hence his rather wild style at times as he tries to get through his fights quickly and move on to the next.

Bet he's a different fighter when he's stood in front of you closing in. Smashes Dubois and walks straight thru Gorman. i actually think he might prove to be a handful for all of them.

You may be right, but he still hasn't fought a live body. I think Dubois stops him. Gorman would bet pelted.

This. X 10

I know a couple of chaps who’ve sparred him. Both said he’s a tank

I just keep thinking about George Foreman (old comback version). He was slow as molasses with somewhat poor punch technique. Yet somehow beat a prime (admittedly chinny) Michael Moorer who although not the same force he was at LHW, was a very decent heavyweight who deservedly beat Holyfield.

Joyce has something. Not quite sure what it is and whether it can work at world level or even fringe. But I’m keen to find out! Hope Dubois fight gets made this year. Great times for the British Heavyweight scene!

Big Joe is a relentless unit. If he has a chin on him he will take some beating.

He just does not stop and to get the better of him you need to be a master boxer like Usyk.

Not many around like Usyk in the heavies.

Only one that I can think of....

I like Joyce and the endless 'he is so slow threads' are a bit pointless now.
I think he will do well but he has just happened to come along at the wrong time to be 'the' champion.
At his age he has to get a bit of a move on but so far the opponents he has had have been perfect. I think given the heavyweight landscape and his timeline the WBA regular will be his highest honour.

x2 There isn't an active heavyweight who outworks JJ. Some will outbox him, but I don't see anyone matching his work rate,. He's like a heavyweight Henry Armstrong.
