Sergey Lipinets vs. John Molina Jr. - July 20, 2019 (cancelled)
Former junior welterweight titlist Sergey Lipinets and former title challenger John Molina Jr., both regular participants in action fights, will meet in a welterweight bout on the pay-per-view undercard of the Manny Pacquiao-Keith Thurman welterweight title fight, sources involved in the bout told ESPN on Saturday. The Fox PPV card is July 20 in Las Vegas. Lipinets sent former titlist Lamont Peterson into retirement by 10th-round knockout on March 24. Molina is coming off a disputed decision loss to former titlist Omar Figueroa Jr. on Feb. 16.

Turning out to be a good undercard.

“It’s a great fight on a great card,” Alex Vaysfeld, Lipinets’ career-long manager said to BS.com, declining further comment other than confirming leaked news of the rumored bout.
“Sergey’s win over Lamont Peterson was his first fight working with Joe Goossen, the excellent trainer,” Vaysfeld noted to BS.com after the March win. “He’s anxious to continue working with Joe. As they become more familiar with each other, it will only make Sergey even better in the ring.”

Pretty sure Lipinets wins, but it's unclear whether it will go the distance. Molina is 36 now, so he's likely going to be worse in this outing than he was a short time ago.

A guy like Molina who stands right in front of him is tailor made for Lipinets. You box Lipinets. You dont brawl with him.

I won't underestimate what Molina might have left in his tank.
But the time will eventually come when It will be at or near empty.
That time may be this week.
Lipinets to completely outbox Molina in a one sided fight.

Even if his tank ain't empty I don't know that he would've beat Lipinets anyway. Molina is a hell of a puncher, but was never better than a lower Top 10 type contender on his best day.SenorPipino wrote: ↑15 Jul 2019, 10:01 I won't underestimate what Molina might have left in his tank.

I don't mean that to be an insult as I like Molina, just acknowledging the reality of his career, and his standing in the sport.

Looks terrible against Demarco and Broner.
Let's dismiss the one sided pounding he suffered against Crawford. Different class there.
But he can turn it around and KO Redkach, decision Provodnikov and gives both Figueroa and Matthysse headaches.
You can't write him off with any confidence. He's fairly sturdy and can whack with that right hand.
Yes, Lipinets should win. But if Molina pulls the upset or at least hangs very tough, I won't be surprised. That's Molina.

Lipinets is -1700. Way too wide. He probably wins but those odds are terrible.

Re: Sergey Lipinets vs. John Molina Jr. - July 20, 2019
BS.com has learned that the veteran contender has withdrawn from his planned welterweight crossroads bout with former 140-pound titlist Sergey Lipinets after reportedly suffering a back injury during fight week.
The bout was due to take place on the Fox Sports Pay-Per-View card headlined by a welterweight title consolidation clash between unbeaten Keith Thurman and former eight-division titlist Manny Pacquiao this Saturday at MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nev.
“We’re just thinking about Saturday night,” Alex Vaysfeld, Lipinets’ manager told BS.com, though declining specific comment on Molina’s situation when asked to verify the news. “Until we’re told otherwise, Sergey is ready to show on Saturday night all of the hard work he’s put in to prepare for this event.”

Ruined a decent card. Was looking forward to this scrap too.

Lipinets might still be on the card. They are looking at two opponents. They aren't sure if he would stay on the PPV portion of the card, depending who they get. My guess is, if they move him to the free TV portion, Lee/Plant will become part of the PPV broadcast.
I hope Lipinets does fight. A long training camp just for Molina to pull out a day before the fight. Molina has been a warrior in his career, so I don't doubt the injury. Just not sure why the pull out took so long.

Lipinets should still be on the card. They’re on look out for new opponent. Bummer that it’s so close to the card.armageto wrote: ↑19 Jul 2019, 13:58 Lipinets might still be on the card. He's on the card and still on the PPV portion at that. Jayar Inson has filled in.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑19 Jul 2019, 14:28Lipinets should still be on the card. They’re on look out for new opponent.
