Filip Hrgovic vs. Greg Corbin - May 25, 2019
Croatian Heavyweight star Filip Hrgovic (7-0, 5 KOs) will make his American debut against Greg Corbin on Saturday May 25 at the MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland, live on DAZN in the US and on Sky Sports in the UK.
The Rio 2016 Olympic Bronze medalist joins a blockbuster bill in Maryland headlined by former undisputed Cruiserweight Champion Oleksandr Usyk, the winner of the inaugural World Boxing Super Series tournament, who makes his Heavyweight bow against Carlos Takam.
Hrgovic returns following a one-sided points victory over Kevin Johnson in his hometown of Zagreb and is eager to showcase his skills in front of an American audience as he continues his quest for World glory.
The Croatian boxing sensation will take on Dallas-born Heavyweight Greg ‘Bad News’ Corbin (15-1, 9 KOs), whose only previous defeat has come at the hands of former IBF World Champion Charles Martin.
“I am pleased that my promoter Team Sauerland has made an agreement with Matchroom and DAZN that will enable me to fight in America,” said Hrgovic. “I believe DAZN is the future of boxing and I’m sure they will give their viewers the best match ups in the history of the Heavyweight division.”
“I look forward to making my American debut on May 25 I’m very excited because the entire Heavyweight division is moving to the US and the US is the best place for big fights at the moment.”
“I think American fans will love my style because I'm not a classic distance fighter. I’m constantly trying to fight and throwing many punches. The fans can expect some excellent fights from me.”
“My opponent Greg Corbin is very good, and I think he is an excellent choice for this stage of my career. I will prepare for this fight as if it were for a World title so I’m sure it will be a great match up.”
“It will be a good test for me because he is more experienced than me, we can see that from his record, and I believe he will come in his best possible shape so it will be an exciting match for viewers around world watching on DAZN.”
“I’m currently in training camp in Miami. We always train like it’s a fight for the world title. Pedro Diaz insists on discipline and hard training. He refuses to work with fighters who are not 100% focused. We share the same opinion about that. That is why we are a good team, and I think we can achieve big things together.”
“I am looking forward to getting straight back in there on May 25,” said Corbin. “This is a chance for me to redeem myself after the Martin fight. There were a lot of distractions for me in the build-up to that one, but this time I’m fully focused on Hrgovic.
“There’s a lot of hype around this guy with his amateur background and his start in the pros – let’s see if he can back it up.”
“American fight fans are in for a treat. On May 25 they will witness a future star of the Heavyweight division,” said Hrgovic’s promoter Nisse Sauerland. “Filip Hrgovic is on a fast track for Heavyweight gold.”
“Filip Hrgovic is an incredibly talented fighter and this could be a breakthrough year for the young Croatian," said promoter Eddie Hearn. "His amateur pedigree is outstanding and I share Team Sauerland’s excitement about his future – he’s going to be a real player in the division."

Let’s hope it a better US debut than Otto Wallin’s.
Re: Filip Hrgovic vs. Greg Corbin - May 25, 2019
Not terrible. Hope his next matchup is more significant though.
Re: Filip Hrgovic vs. Greg Corbin - May 25, 2019
Corbin was kinda powerless against Walker this Earth like a God, he provided no real effort of boxing and got outworked. Hrgovic will confidently bomb Corbin and maybe even stop him. And probably next Hrgovic should face the ex-IBF King himself.

Facing Martin would indeed be a great next step for Hrgovic.

Re: Filip Hrgovic vs. Greg Corbin - May 25, 2019
Might take Hrgovic by DQ.
Corbin likes to hit low

I agree 100%. I saw his pathetic performance against Charles Martin on the Spence-Garcia undercard. He only showed up for the paycheck and intentionally fouled his way into a shameful loss.
Hrgovic's camp probably saw that fight and are looking for an easy win over a guy with a 16-1 record.

May be they want to fight someone who's rough and dirty but not overly talented.Best Coast wrote: ↑19 Apr 2019, 20:39 I agree 100%. Part of the learning process. Even Chisora recently said that a way to beat Usyk might be to rough him up and foul.
Fighters eventually encounter those kind of tactics.
Ask Lomachenko.

Dont know if you saw the fight but Corbin wasnt really fouling Martin badly enough to hurt him, but he was just repetitive enough to get DQd. He had numerous warnings before points were deducted, then 3 separate point deductions before the DQ on the 4th.SenorPipino wrote: ↑19 Apr 2019, 21:40 May be they want to fight someone who's rough and dirty but not overly talented.

Finally, i waiting for months... Corbin was not on my list of wishes but it is ok... bad ranking for him 178 on boxrec
i hoped Hrgovic become a fighter list at top 100... so Corbin has only 8 points and Hrgovic 198 , that is no progres and points for Hrgovic at this fight but i like he finally fight...
Corbin is to open for Hrgovics right overhand , i predict 3 round most 4 round of bombing and Corbin is out

Re: Filip Hrgovic vs. Greg Corbin - May 25, 2019
Prospect Filip Hrgovic faces Greg Corbin this Saturday. Any thoughts on Hrgovic's prospects beyond this fight? I like him, and while I don't think he'll get to the top of the division, he's going to be a solid HW contender.
Re: Filip Hrgovic vs. Greg Corbin - May 25, 2019
I think he's ready to face someone half decent before the end of the year. Someone like Helenius/Hammer in the Summer/Autumn might be good and then a proper step up afterwards. If Miller isn't actually suspended, they're both connected to Matchroom USA...
Re: Filip Hrgovic vs. Greg Corbin - May 25, 2019
Miller would be really interesting. I wonder what Big Baby will look like without peds!
Re: Filip Hrgovic vs. Greg Corbin - May 25, 2019
I'm hoping for a quick turn around for Hrgovic. Ajagba has been gaining interest and I think a part of that is from his activity.
If they reschedule Usyk vs Takam for August or September both Hunter and Hrgovic should be on that undercard.

Gregory Corbin is "Mark De Mori" Mark II, a fighter with a statistically impressive record, but has defeated lots of terribly dire journeymen with appalling resumes, whilst losing to any moderately half-decent opponents he faces.
I like Filip Hrgovic, but a victory over Gregory Corbin doesn't advance his career in any way, other than adding another victim to his KO highlight reel.

Corbin is a club fighter. Will be destruction
Re: Filip Hrgovic vs. Greg Corbin - May 25, 2019
Maybe so, but we can see if Hrgovic adds a new dimension to his game, or improves on some aspect of his skills. It's not all about what you do to other the guy, or how good the other guy is sometimes. I mostly can find some take away, especially with a rising fighter or a prospect.

Worthless mismatch. Par for the course that is the modern HW division.
