I'm sure it was AJ's goal to toy with him for 7 rounds. He was really trying to prove his mettle by dominating an elite opponent like Dominic Breazeale and choosing the round he would knock him out in. Unlike Wilder who just swings wildly praying something will land.

Sorry, I don't buy it.
No one else does either. To be fair, even Wilder, when asked about AJ taking 7 rounds to beat Breazeale said, "Styles make fights. It don't mean anything."

He must be a diehard AJ fan who is simply trying to discredit Wilder. I'm not trying to take away anything from AJ's win over Breazeale and there's no reason to even compare the two fights. Both were dominant victories. And this argument is a digression from the main thread...

I don't think an Ortiz rematch is necessary. I'd like to see Ortiz fight a new opponent, maybe even AJ, but not before AJ fights Wilder. Ortiz vs. Povetkin or Whyte would fun. Wilder has to fight AJ and rematch Fury first before taking on Ortiz again, but at that point Ortiz will be an AARP member.

Of course you're not. You're a fair poster. And a good one. He's all over the place. He voted Wilder down to number 9 on the BoxRec HW rankings. Really?!

I also don't want the Ortiz rematch. It will be the same as Stiverne II and Breazeale, especially with Wilder back up to mid 220's. There are only Fury and AJ I really want to see. Just settle this once and for all. I'd still favor AJ overall. I don't think Fury can sustain being dedicated. Wilder always has that puncher's chance and if he can avoid the windmill punches would have a good shot at AJ.

Seems like a good fight to me. Wilder was close to losing last time and pretty much only won the rounds in which he dropped Ortiz...but the to be fair to Wilder that's how he operates.

wilder was still up on the cards, i cant see how ortiz wins really, itll be a less troublesome win for wilder this time with the 40 year old at least a year and a half older

F*ck this fight. Well, it's actually still a decent matchup, but it's a disappointing choice, when there're options of fighting Fury or Joshua.

I'd rather see Kownacki. At least he's a fresh face opponent.

X3.

Ortiz did his best and, although most people had him winning by the time of the stoppage, the cards were against him and they will be again unless he absolutely dominates he fight which is unlikely as a few additional years will only hinder him at this stage in his career.

I think Wilder takes Ortiz out early in a rematch. Those extra 10 LBS mean a lot to his effectiveness, IMHO.

it could well. the counter argument is that he was mid 220s for some of his least impressive showings and also when he couldnt put down the reptile

As I've posted before, I'd best he'll be closer to 230 his next bout.

Ortiz at least shed light on why he didn't take the Joshua fight.

What did he do since his last fight?

maybe he knew he had a wilder rematch sealed up and plans to retire on that. might as well start becoming a fat ass since he doesnt have to make weight?

Not necessary, but Ortiz is still one of the 2 best contenders in the division without a claim to any sorta belt. I wouldn't mind it if it happened, that being said the only thing I see happening is Wilder winning easier. He's gotten better, and Ortiz has gotten older.

We’re not going to see the damn fights we want so we might as well see one of the 3 or 4 next best options. Everyone commenting on it will watch no doubt so what the heck. Make the fight. If I’m Wilder, I’m not risking 60-100 million on a rematch against a technically superior boxer wanting to correct his errors from first fight. It’s crazy.

I don’t think we’ll see AJ/DW while both guys are still undefeated. DW will lose first and end up making 20m or less as result.

No need for Wilder-Ortiz II. Ortiz is getting old, past age 40 if I remember correctly.

The fights we want are Fury-Wilder II, Fury-Joshua and best of all, Joshua-Wilder.
