Kownacki taking an easy stay busy fight until his shot at Wilder later in the year it seems. Biggest gut winsA deal is being finalized to match Brooklyn, New York-based Polish heavyweight contender Adam Kownacki against former three-time title challenger Chris Arreola, sources with knowledge of the deal told ESPN. The bout would take place on a Premier Boxing Champions card Aug. 3 (Fox) at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, where Kownacki is a popular draw. Kownacki is on course to challenge titlist Deontay Wilder in early 2020 if he keeps winning. Arreola, who will be in his first fight with trainer Joe Goossen after a career spent with Henry Ramirez, has won two fights since Wilder stopped him in the eighth round of a 2016 world title fight, after which Arreola was idle for 2½ years.

Re: Kownacki Vs Arreola - 3rd Aug
Mark my words. This might end up in a war. Arreola seems to be somewhat revitalized and Kownacki will be facing the busiest fighter he's faced. I'll take Kow to win, but it's a real good step-up.
Re: Kownacki Vs Arreola - 3rd Aug
Maybe Arreola is still able to give a fight, but Kownacki gonna stop him. In a decent brawl probably.
Re: Kownacki Vs Arreola - 3rd Aug
Did Arreola really look that good in his comeback fights? I didn't watch them as I assumed he wouldn't have improved from before.
Re: Kownacki Vs Arreola - 3rd Aug
Should be a good fight this
Re: Kownacki Vs Arreola - 3rd Aug
Really good? Can't say that, but way more determined than I've seen him in a while. I think we'll learn about Kow from this fight. Arreola has a lot to prove as well, which is why I'm saying it'll be a better fight than first thoughts.
Re: Kownacki Vs Arreola - 3rd Aug
Fair enough. Hoped for a better opponent but it will be atleast be good enough to see him against a different style to what he's faced before.
Re: Kownacki Vs Arreola - 3rd Aug
If he gets passed Arreola (and he probably will), he'll be ready to face a top 10-15 guy, or at least somewhat better prepared to face Wilder (who will blather him) if that actually happens. We'll see what happens when he's punched in the face a bit more often than past fights.
Re: Kownacki Vs Arreola - 3rd Aug
I think they want Kownacki for Wilder in the winter so I'm not sure if they'll brave another fight between August and then unfortunately.oogiebe wrote: ↑22 May 2019, 12:34 If he gets passed Arreola (and he probably will), he'll be ready to face a top 10-15 guy, or at least somewhat better prepared to face Wilder (who will blather him) if that actually happens. I get it, but he needs another step up fight before that if they take his title shot seriously. It's just the right thing to do. Kow's not ready for Wilder, and may never be, but he needs to be in the ring with someone closer than Arreola or Washington.

A passing of the fat blob gatekeeper torch.
Re: Kownacki Vs Arreola - 3rd Aug
i doubt arreola gives him a tougher fight then martin did
Re: Kownacki Vs Arreola - 3rd Aug
Arreola is WASHED. He now struggles with cab drivers. This is just a "name". They'll cash Kownacki out against Wilder early next year.
Re: Kownacki Vs Arreola - 3rd Aug
its true, and he was pretty bad at his best too, though i think anyone who throws punches back at kownacki will hit him, fat boy (lol which one!) can probably make a fight of it vs kow as long as he gives an effort and tries to win. i actually dont mind it since i dont rate kow and am not really pushed to see him fight top opponents, prob be a fun one

Yeah, kownacki is the perfect indictment of how shitty the division is. He would be lucky to beat Everett Martin back in the day. Bert Cooper would have devastated him.jamamb wrote: ↑22 May 2019, 13:12 its true, and he was pretty bad at his best too, though i think anyone who throws punches back at kownacki will hit him, fat boy (lol which one!) can probably make a fight of it vs kow as long as he gives an effort and tries to win. i actually dont mind it since i dont rate kow and am not really pushed to see him fight top opponents, prob be fun

Re: Kownacki Vs Arreola - 3rd Aug
and you are right. no way.
Arreola was in razor close fights vs Kassi, Kauffman and Harper (the guy who leaved the ring vs Ajagba). and it was 4 years ago. almost 40 yo Arreola would probably lose to Iago Kiladze now. I liked Kownacki vs Helenius more (though i don't really rate Helenius as well).
If i could select who i would like to see fighting Arreola, it would Marco Huck. Arreola fight gives nothing to Kownacki, he should fight another tall guy like Helenius or Wallin who recently made his debut on American soil. It's just a stay busy fight.

Re: Kownacki Vs Arreola - 3rd Aug
i just meant the records, Whyte and Kownacki are the #1 and #2 most deserving contenders basing on the records only. btw, to me Whyte isn't good, him vs Rivas is a close fight, i can imagine Kownacki beating him as well, though i would favour Whyte, 55/45.
Whyte was in close bouts vs Chisora (arguably lost the 1st one, i had Chisora ahead in the second fight as well) and in a close fight vs the worst i have ever seen version of Parker (i had 113-112 Whyte, i would favour Parker in rematch), beating Helenius is not a great achievement either, i do not even want to mention always overrated Browne. he is top 10 but he's no hoper vs the big 3. I like that he takes the risk and he's in entertaining bouts but is he really good? i do not think so. He has improved since his AJ fight, he seems better technically but still i wouldn't even favour him vs Pulev, let alone Povetkin or Ortiz.
