Finkel: Ortiz Rumours Not True

Post by oogiebe »

In an interview with The Sun, Shelly Finkel talked about being in discussions for fights versus Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua. With regards to Luis Ortiz, Finkel said, “No, (Ortiz rumours) not true. That is something we are working on now, hopefully by next week it will be resolved. I had dinner the other night with John Skipper, we discussed the Joshua fight and I also have been in touch with Top Rank."

Finkel further stated that, "In the next two weeks everything will be done, it will be said publicly what we’re doing and I believe the UK fans will also be happy.”

“These two fights are too important for the fighters and the sport, they both will happen. When it’s ready a fight will be made, (promoter) Bob (Arum) will make a fight with us, that’s not an issue and we can do something with DAZN also - they are not issues. There is not an issue with DAZN, there is not an issue with making the fight."

"Instead of dictating, dictating, dictating, it’s not going to work. I’ve had a very, very good rapport with John skipper, I believe the fight will happen, I believe the fight will happen with John and I’ll work with Eddie and Barry at the time. I’m going with John (Skipper) to the June 1 fight of Joshua. (Joshua) didn’t come to Deontay’s fight (against Breazeale), he was in New York or around here, so there’s no reason (Wilder) to.”

What do you make of that?

well

"No, (Ortiz rumours) not true. That is something we are working on now, hopefully by next week it will be resolved."

could easily just be 'no its not officially made yet but will be ready by next week'

also fury vs schwarz is still 3 weeks away, so 'uk fans will likewhat we say in 2 weeks' is unlikely to be fury? plus unlikely to be whyte whos got a fight already?

Oh, surely Finkel lies like a rug. Just reporting the article as stated. I don't believe a word of any promoter, as I've made clear in effusive fashion. I did like the timeline to finding something out though, and UK fans to be happy is somewhat compelling.

If it's not in the offering why let Ortiz come into the ring like he's in a hot dog eating contest? Makes sense to wait out the fights inside a month, but looks like lip service to prove they tried to make the other fights when they're quite aware this is next. Good on wilder though, for all the nonsense you hear about him, he voluntarily went for Ortiz, signed again after he pissed hot and is going to give him another voluntary shot after the toughest fight of his life.
