Austin Trout vs. Terrell Gausha - May 25, 2019

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Former super welterweight champion Austin "No Doubt'' Trout returns to the ring to take on former title challenger Terrell Gausha in a 10-round super welterweight bout that headlines Premier Boxing Champions on FS1 and FOX Deportes on Saturday, May 25 from Beau Rivage Resort Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi.

In the co-feature, unbeaten super welterweight contender Chordale Booker battles rugged veteran Wale Omotoso in a 10-round bout, while sensational unbeaten welterweight prospect Eimantas Stanionis will open the broadcast at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT in an eight or 10-round welterweight fight.

Tickets for the event, which is promoted by TGB Promotions, go on sale Monday, April 15 and can be purchased at the Beau Rivage Theatre box office and through Ticketmaster.

—————
"Austin Trout has one of the best resumes at super welterweight in the sport today," said Tom Brown, President of TGB Promotions. "He's been in the ring with some of the best boxers at 154-pounds of this generation and I've never seen him in a bad fight. Terrell Gausha doesn't back down from anyone and that will make for an exciting match against Trout. Chordale Booker will be putting his unbeaten record on the line against Wale Omotoso in what will be one of his toughest tests to date. It's a show that has something for everyone that attends at Beau Rivage or tunes in to FS1 and FOX Deportes.''

Trout (31-5, 17 KOs) has tangled with some of the top super welterweights of this generation, including Saul Alvarez, Erislandy Lara, Miguel Cotto, Jermell and Jermall Charlo and Jarrett Hurd. The 33-year-old from Las Cruces, Mexico, will look to rebound from a majority decision defeat to Jermell Charlo last June. His knockout victory over Joey Hernandez in 2015 headlined the first PBC show on FS1.

"I'm excited to be back in the ring," said Trout. "I'm ready to take another chop at the world title and this is my way back. I'm really motivated to get that championship belt again. Gausha is a strong, technical fighter with an Olympic pedigree. I've got to get in there and take care of him and look good doing it. A good win over him will get me right back in the mix.''

The 31-year-old Gausha (21-1, 10 KOs), a member of the 2012 U.S. Olympic boxing team from Cleveland, Ohio, will look to put himself back into title contention with a victory over Trout. He came up short in his first title fight against Erislandy Lara, losing a unanimous decision in 2017, before rebounding with a knockout victory over Joey Hernandez in his last fight in December.

"I feel good about this fight and I think it's the perfect fight for me," said Gausha. "With Austin Trout being a former champion and having experience fighting all the top guys in the division, it gives me a chance to show where I'm at. It's not only about winning, but it's the way I'll win that will put people on notice."

Booker (14-0, 7 KOs) is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Juan De Angel in January on FS1. The 27-year-old southpaw from Stamford, Conn., was busy in 2018, going 5-0 with three knockouts. Booker is very active in his Stamford community as well, running his charity for at-risk youth and training amateurs for the Golden Gloves.

"My expectations for myself are to put on the best performance I've had in boxing period - amateur or pro," said Booker. "I'm looking to showcase every ability that I have, not just brute strength. I want to show people that I'm championship caliber. What I see from him is that he's a game fighter and comes to fight. He likes to come forward. He's going to try to take it to me. But I can do a lot of things, box going forward, backwards, sideways, or anything it will take to get this win."

The 33-year-old Omotoso (27-3, 21 KOs) is a hard-nosed veteran who will present Booker with his toughest test to date. Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Omotoso learned to fight in the streets before honing his skills in the boxing gym. He calls himself "Lucky Boy'' because he feels fortunate to have made it off the streets alive and become a successful professional boxer. Now training in Los Angeles, Omotoso most recently defeated Freddy Hernandez in December 2017.

"I got the call to fight a young, undefeated fighter in Booker and I said bring it on," said Omotoso. "I'm really happy he took the fight because most people say I'm too dangerous and too tough. I will give it all I got. When I go to the ring I put all my effort and training into the fight. That's the way this sport is. I know he's going to come in with all he's got, but the toughest man will win."

Stanionis (8-0, 5 KOs) is from Kaunas, Lithuania and was a member of the 2016 Lithuanian Olympic boxing team. The 24-year-old, who now lives in Oxnard, California, and trains with Ronnie Shields in Texas, is on the fast track toward being a top contender. He's continued to impress with victories over durable veterans Levan Ghvamichava and Samuel Figueroa in his last two bouts.

Austin Trout Not Playing, plans to stop Gausha in late rounds

Greg Leon: Your bout with Terrell Gausha [21-1] was just announced for May 25th. When did training camp start?

Austin Trout: "Shortly before they made the announcement we shifted it into gear, maybe a week, a week and a half ago. I'm going to be going to Vegas on Tuesday to work with Robert Garcia and Floyd Mayweather Sr so that will be another gear that I'm going to be shifting in." GL: What do you think about Gausha as a fighter? What do you think about the style match-uo? AT: "I think it's a good style match-up for myself. He's going to play into my strengths. I don't want to get too much into how our styles will mesh or what I'm going to do to him, but it's a good fight for me and it's a fight that's going to make me look good."

GL: In our recent interviews, you've made it clear that you were up against it with the odds stacked against you in unfavorable circumstances with Jarrett Hurd and Jermell Charlo. Do you feel that way going into this fight?

AT: "I always feel like my back's against the wall. I feel like the size isn't going to hurt me in this fight like it did with Charlo and Hurd. It's going to feel good to fight somebody my size."

GL: Other than victory is there a prediction?

AT: "I don't like saying I'm going to get a knockout or be looking or a knockout, but I think I'm going to stop him in the late rounds...like the tenth."

GL: Is your plan for this to be your coming out party to show people that you're still here and able to compete at the highest level?

AT: "Absolutely. Ain't no half stepping. After another year layoff I'm jumping in there with an Olympian who has only been beaten once. This is a fight I need to win if I want to stay in the game."

GL: In his biggest fight to date he seemed to be a bit overwhelmed by Lara. Do you think he learned from that and will be a better fighter when you see him?

AT: "I'm sure he learned from that and I'm not preparing for an underwhelmed Terrell Gausha, but I do plan to overwhelm him with my skill and work level."

GL: Who do you like in Hurd-Williams?

AT: "I like Hurd. He's just a big ass tank and he can really let those hands go. His stamina is crazy and unless the weight has gotten to him, I like Hurd in that fight."

GL: What about the Harrison-Charlo rematch?

AT: "I like Harrison, I don't think Charlo is going to be able to make the adjustments he needs to make and I think Harrison is going to be able to improve on what he did last time. I think Harrison just might have his number."

GL: What do you want a victory over Gausha to lead to?

AT: "A title shot of course. If not a bigger fight."

GL:: Bigger and better things.

AT: "That's right. And I'm not giving up on my goal to get to 147 so for me this is just a stop on my way there. I'll let you know who I want when I get there."

GL: What do you consider your biggest advantage going into this fight with Gausha?

AT: "My footwork."

GL: What about your experience?

AT: "I don't need to rely on my experience and I don't want to have to rely on my experience. He's a technical fighter, but I'm planning to win by banking on the things that are physical. I think physically I'm the better fighter. I'm not just the more experienced fighter."

GL: Closing thoughts for the fans.

AT: "I appreciate y'all. Tune in and check me out on Fox Sports 1 on May 25th. It's going to be a great fight to let y'all know I'm back."

Decent fight. Gausha showed his limitations in Lara fight despite his undefeated record. This is maybe last chance for Trout to do serious things in boxing :box: :box: :box:

If Trout wins this, and Harrison retains against Jermell.. Don't be surprised to see Harrison vs. Trout..

Trout has been given opportunities. Many of the top 154'ers know he's beatable and he's a NAME.

According to Terrell Gausha, tonight’s clash against Austin Trout is not a crossroads bout.

Gausha believes the winner is right back in the mix of the talented junior middleweight division and could be in line for a world title fight.

A lot is on the line as Trout and Gausha will square off at the Beau Rivage Resort and Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi. The 10-round bout will headline a three-bout telecast on FS1 (8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. PT).

“This is the type of fight I need to move forward,” Gausha told BS Friday afternoon. “Austin has fought some of the best fighters in the world. He’s solid. A victory over him could propel me to fight against the best in the division.”

In a crossroads junior middleweight fight, Olympian Terrell Gausha (21-2, 10 KOs) and former world champion Austin Trout (31-5-1, 17 KOs) fought to a twelve round split draw. The scores were 99-91 for Gausha, 96-94 for Trout, and 95-95 for the draw.

The live crowd saw Gausha as the clear winner, loudly booing the decision. The broadcast team, over at Fox Sports, saw Gausha as the winner as well.

Gausha came out pressing forward, looking to push back the veteran and force him to the ropes.

Trout continued to get pushed back in the second, with Gausha controlling the pace. Trout began to hold his ground in the third, choosing to fight more often.

They were picking their spots in the next few rounds, with Trout making things close as the action slowed down. Gausha was being more tactical and landing the flusher punches. Trout was landing a flicking jab and doing most of his work to the body.

More jabs were connecting by Gausha as they entered the seventh round, and his movement was giving Trout a lot of trouble.

Gausha had the edge as the contest played out, landing the cleaner punches. Trout was in the fight and continued to work hard, but his timing appeared to be off a bit.

In the tenth and final round, Trout tried to change the tide by letting his hands go. Guasha stuck to his boxing and was landing the more accurate punches.

When you have such a wide card, and the other 2 close cards.

It’s either the 1 judge who needs glasses, or the other 2..

BLH had it 97-93 Gausha I believe.

A draw just means they both stay ‘relevant’.. Trout dousing afford another loss.

To be fair on Trout, he has only lost to good boxers.

Neither guy was a ball of fire in there.

Guasha might have shaded it, but a draw didn't bother me.

Guasha landed an average of 9 light punches a round. Trout landed an average of 8 light punches a round.

It's not like Guasha pummeled Trout.
