Do you think the Alphabet Belts should unify to create one superbelt?
I think if the WBC, WBO, IBF and WBA unites into one belt it would be something special for boxing. I’m sick of all the ducking and hiding with the belts being excused as an excuse. I never understand what all these belts are for. There should be one super belt. One champion. Defending his titles. Boxing loses so much because people can’t even keep track of all the champions. Seems like everyone is a champion now.
Re: Do you think the Alphabet Belts should unify to create one superbelt?
It would be great in theory, but truthfully, will never happen. Too much greed and dissention.
Re: Do you think the Alphabet Belts should unify to create one superbelt?
They'd never do that. It would be self-defeating. Great for boxing though!

LMAO! (fees). Exactly my point. One belt = one sanctioning body, not four.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑25 May 2019, 21:04 For one belt they'd Probably charge 8% sanc fee.
Didn’t they break away from each other on the first place.

yeah it will never happen though
Re: Do you think the Alphabet Belts should unify to create one superbelt?
Yeah, me too. It took a long time for me to accept two (WBA and WBC). Four is just silly.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑25 May 2019, 21:08 If they all united, and as a whole charged the normal sanc fee, they’d all make a loss.
Sometimes I hope the IBF and WBO didn’t form.
Re: Do you think the Alphabet Belts should unify to create one superbelt?
I don't actually mind 4, but they need to work together.
Ban all "regular" titles - they are obscene.
Recognise each other's champs - no ludicrous situations where you have a beltholder with 2 defences and he's not ranked by at least one other body.
Interim champs only very, very rarely - when it's genuine basically - and the interim champ to fight the No.1 within max 2 fights.
Mandatory Unification matches - after 3 defences a beltholder must make a match with another suitable belt holder within max 2 fights. (Kinda like winning the British outright before moving to the big leagues). That way a belt holder would have to fight some kind of other beltholder after 5 defences.
Mandatory Undisputed matches - on similar lines to the above.
In such a brutal sport as boxing, why not have 4 champs ?
You have 4 trophies in football. Even winning a vacant WBO belt against a weak challenger is still a great achievement. And being "Unified Champ" and then "Undisputed" Champ would be extra special - like just being "World Champ" in the olden days.
With step aside money, and the IBF's zealous mandatories, the governing bodies will still make their money. Maybe slightly fewer sanctioning fees, but, - as they all gain in credibility along with the sport itself - they could perhaps charge a little more.
They'd also kill the IBO/WBF type bulsh1tters.
And the boxers get to call themselves World Champions, sell more tickets and PPV to casuals, or cash out their belt to a hot cash-cow.

Re: Do you think the Alphabet Belts should unify to create one superbelt?
I think a compromise ought to be IF someone can unify the four titles he/she ought to be given an UNDISPUTED belt & the four organizations must come together to make a top ten for that undisputed champion. Each organization gets 2 picks amounting to 8 names, and the champ can have 2 voluntaries of his own choosing.
Re: Do you think the Alphabet Belts should unify to create one superbelt?
Great idea but it is a fantasy. The only way is if one company purchased all of the others and merged them together, but the almighty dollar will always emerge victorious

..sport is big business, no businessman in his right mind will knowingly make a decision to hurt his paycheck..
Re: Do you think the Alphabet Belts should unify to create one superbelt?
Put me down for no
Re: Do you think the Alphabet Belts should unify to create one superbelt?
I'm actually not against the 4 majors. It makes interesting champ vs champ bouts and even tourney opportunites. But I'm against the option of more than 4 belts. And I'm also against paper "sub-belts" like regular, silver, intercontinental, interim, sh!terim and so on.
Re: Do you think the Alphabet Belts should unify to create one superbelt?
They should make 2 champions per weight class. One 25 fights and under champ and one lineal champ with 26+ fights. That way you can spotlight the prospects without having them be cooked meat..and can build PPV with young versus old champsskanksta wrote: ↑25 May 2019, 21:47 I don't actually mind 4, but they need to work together.

That way there would be more WBSS tournies for the youngsters and still chance for passing of the torch

Even if they did, it’d only be a matter of months until they introduced an ‘interim’ superbelt

It'd be an ideal ideea but it would considerably reduce their amount of incomes. So they would probably create an interim title, a regular title, a world title and of course a super world title then a prestigious diamond title.

I love these utopian threads.
Why not next we invent time travel so we can actually see fighters from different eras fight.
It's all a good thought but it ain't happening

Re: Do you think the Alphabet Belts should unify to create one superbelt?
it needs a new organisation to better the other 4, but they are all doing well at choking themselves so belts don't really matter anyway there are plenty of unifications now and there were very few going 10 years back.
Divisions are only really interesting when there is doubt as to number 1 , AJ, TF or DW.
Divisions are less interesting when nobody doubts that Usyk or Lomo are the top fighters.

Ideally there should be only one belt but it will never happen now. Too much money to be made. These organizations are businesses pure and simple.
The lineal title is the one that counts really.

For the benefit of boxing fans -- yes.
For the benefit of themselves -- no.

With all the money DAZN has put into boxing, they could have bought out all four major bodies and unified them into the DAZN belt hahahahahaha dontnknow why they didn’t.

Re: Do you think the Alphabet Belts should unify to create one superbelt?
Fair point, but lineal titles need governance and rules, but from whom?
Tyson Fury disappeared to become a fat coke head, then resurfaced nearly 3 years later claiming that he is still the lineal champion.
Surely Fury involuntarily relinquished that title at some point, otherwise he could take the title in perpetuity if he never loses?

Re: Do you think the Alphabet Belts should unify to create one superbelt?
They don’t so much have to unify but let’s say they all get together and make mandatories of each title to fight for the other titles. So the WBA champion, his mandatory is to fight the WBO champion for 50/50 with a rematch clause and so on and so forth. All the sanctioning bodies make the mandatory the fight that holds any other belt from the four bodies.
