Great learning fight for Fury lol, waste of time, Norrad looked out of his depth from the first bell, Fury throwing the right hand early and landed some big rights to the body, nothing wrong with the right hand to put Norrad down for me it looked top of the head/behind the ear, thought it was a premature stoppage even though I doubt Norrad would've lasted much longer I still would've liked to have seen it go on

I'm losing a lot of respect for Peter lately.
Re: Round-by-Round: Hughie Fury vs. Chris Norrad - 25 May 2019
Fighting an opponent like this is acceptable for an ambitious fighter coming off a loss, it's a shame that Norrad didn't look the part more given this was televised on terrestrial telly.
I will say that although Norrad was not a particularly good boxer, he had a go and put in a better performance than Hunter and Hrgovic's opponents this weekend.

What did I learn from that fight?
If you're the away fighter, fighting in the UK. You better be up at 8 because if you're up at 9 or even 10. You are out.

Re: Round-by-Round: Hughie Fury vs. Chris Norrad - 25 May 2019
Yep, even though Norrad was a useless lump he was up at nine and was well aware of where the referee’s count was. It was a bad stoppage on an appalling show.
Don’t get me wrong, there was no way Norrad would have made any significant impact but give the kid a chance...it’s not like he was in with a prime Mike Tyson!

Abysmal.
He dropped the British title and avoided Joe Joyce for that.

Wonder if that referee would have waved Hughie off if he got knocked down and waited till 9 to get up?

Exactly. it happens all the time and the BBBofC never do anything about it.overhand_right wrote: ↑26 May 2019, 07:05 Wonder if that referee would have waved Hughie off if he got knocked down and waited till 9 to get up?
Some people will say he was counted out in the act of rising, but he was on his feet. total bollocks.

I really can't see how shows like that can carry on at C5,tiny audience, crap card, bet the viewing figures weren't great too, what a massive come down for Peter that is.

I agree mate. How many people will have watched that rubbish last night and won't watch Hughie again?
I have a ton of respect for Mick Hennessy for achieving what he has over the years, but Hughie should sign a three fight deal with Matchroom. There are half a dozen heavyweight fights for him there that could be easily made.
Re: Round-by-Round: Hughie Fury vs. Chris Norrad - 25 May 2019
Not sure why Mick next show is on July 20th, the same night as Dillian Whyte so even fewer people would go than yesterday. Better to delay it till the 27th. Guess he got no choice and isn't going to turn down tv money.
Re: Round-by-Round: Hughie Fury vs. Chris Norrad - 25 May 2019
Mick knows his role and his place - he has no say in Hughie opponents.keithmoonhangover wrote: ↑26 May 2019, 08:31

Matchroom wouldn’t work under those conditions
Re: Round-by-Round: Hughie Fury vs. Chris Norrad - 25 May 2019
I’ve no idea what Mick can and cannot deliver but last night was a well below what should be acceptable for any broadcaster - especially on a Saturday night.
Hughie vs a 35 year old novice
Marshall vs a jobbing opponent from two weights below
Mick’s kid on debut getting an outing because he’s Mick’s kid
It was like the Phoenix Nights of boxing - except no there was no intended irony.
I genuinely felt embarrassed for those involved

H.Fury vs the winner of Price - Allen is a natural match up to make, either on a channel 5 show or an SBO undercard. Thou got a feeling team fury will be saying they are looking towards world level, even thou Fury best win is against Sam Sexton. Maybe fury against Lucas Browne in September.
Re: Round-by-Round: Hughie Fury vs. Chris Norrad - 25 May 2019
Again Hughie was good against a journeyman. He was more aggressive. But probably everything will change again with another stepping up try. Now I'll believe in his abilities only after he proves them at the higher level.

I'd also like to watch Hughie-Dinu bout.Glass Joe wrote: ↑26 May 2019, 10:41 H.Fury vs the winner of Price - Allen is a natural match up to make, either on a channel 5 show or an SBO undercard. It was utterly atrocious. I made a fortune betting on it but it was woefully bad. They could've picked a better opponent for Hughie out the crowd.
Re: Round-by-Round: Hughie Fury vs. Chris Norrad - 25 May 2019
I bet boxing news bottle it and don't give the main event/card or atmosphere less than 2 stars.
Re: Round-by-Round: Hughie Fury vs. Chris Norrad - 25 May 2019
Well, not particularly a journeyman, but just low class of a fighter, that's the point.
