What If Wilfredo Gomez vs Jeff Chandler at Super Bantamweight?

Post by scorpio83 »

Would Gomez batter Chandler with his punches like a Bazooka and knocks him out in the later rounds at Super Bantamweight in the same fate as Chandler's Bantamweight rival who he never fought like Lupe Pintor? Imo, Gomez would batter Chandler at Super Bantamweight or Junior Featherweight. What do you guys think?

Wilfred would win a close decision, like 8-6-1, or 8-7. Chandler would give him the toughest fight of his career, tougher than Pintor. But Gomez just a shade better. It wouldn't surprise me if the decision went the other way.

Gomez by stoppage. Gomez would be way too strong for Chandler.

The great Wilfredo Gomez was too strong for anybody at 122lbs. I pick Gomez by late KO around the 13th or 14th round.

If Lupe can last 14 with Wilfredo, Jeff is going all the way.

Can Joltin' Jeff hurt Bazooka like Lupe Pintor did?

Honestly, slim possibility, but I think he had enough power to make Wilfredo respect him.

Bazooka GOmez KO10 or 11. Big fan of both but Gomez’s pressure and punch would wear Chandler out and take him out. Bad matchup for Chandler, IMO

Yup. I am not sure it would be close after the first 3-4 rounds

Keep dreaming. Chandler beats Pintor by UD. The Jeff that fought Richie was damaged goods, not taking anything from Sandoval, real good fighter. Gomez by close UD. Though again, would not shock me if Jeff won by close UD.

When Jeff Chandler lost to Richie Sandoval in 1984, he was having serious problems of drug abuse.

He had drug issues, if not, Jeff beats Richie. And Pintor as well. Lupe didn't want static with Jeff, kinda like Holmes wanting no static with Page or Thomas, or Corro wanting no static with Hagler.

I agree with most of you have said, but the great Larry Holmes wanting no static with Greg Page nor Pinklon Thomas does not enter my mind. Explain that to me.

He chose to fight Marvis Frazier and Scott Frank over Page, which was highly unacceptable, and took on an unproven Carl Williams over Thomas, and arguably lost. Spinks may have been a karma call, looking back on it.
