Apparently it’s on course for being sold-out, which means that 21K tickets would have been sold.

There are a hell of a lot of Brits in NYC, due to either living there (120K) or being tourists (1.24m per annum).

To put this into context, the attendance for the Wilder-Breazeale fight was only 13K, with the bout being staged in Brooklyn (5 miles away from MSG), but only 6K tickets were actually purchased, with the remainder given away for free (Thomas Hauser & Eddie Hearn allege this).

Deontay just isn't a draw. He's boring.

Most Americans recognize AJ is the best HW in the world, but Deontay definitely has a puncher's chance. Dude can crack!

Plus AJ v Deontay is way more fun than Fury...the Fury buildups are always the best, but his fighting style is to spoil.

Before Miller was withdrawn from the bout, it had sold 17k, with 10k coming from the UK. That was a month ago.

Great points. Imagine that tix sales stalled a bit after that, yes.

Ruiz fans must have then bought some. Would assume he has some fans. Who would make the trip from the south.

Eddie Hearn made this claim on the 17th April, which means that more than 80% of the available tickets for the venue had already been sold six weeks ago.

I believe that MSG has 20,789 seats for boxing events.

The venue will definitely be sold-out by the day of the fight.

Eddie Hearn expects us to believe AJ is a global icon along the lines of Manny Pacquiao in his prime!!

I'd imagine it would be close to sold out.
Last time I was in NYC for a Heavyweight fight was when Lennox Lewis fought Michael Grant, there was very healthy support for Lewis among the British fans which I think will be the case for Joshua too.
Good time to go as I'd imagine the weather will be nice this time of year and NYC is NYC so there's not going to be a lack of things to do if you're in for the weekend.
Only downside if you can call it that is the main events on the East Coast end after 11.00pm, sometimes closer to midnight whereas on the West Coast they're done by about 9.00pm.
That said whoever is going enjoy yourselves, I'm sure Joshua will want to take it a few rounds to satisfy everyone even though he could take Ruiz out much earlier if he wanted to.

I wonder what percentage of the crowd will be British expats or tourists? Will be interesting to know how much US support Joshua ends up drawing.

Read an article in the paper today where the reporter says most of the locals he spoke to were more interested in the Champions league final than the Joshua fight this weekend.

I think it is safe to say that the vast majority of the crowd will be made up of Brits.

Nothing wrong with that. From what I can gather, fighters need very solid fan bases in order to sell many tickets in the US, makes sense that Joshua is utilising his already massive fan base in the UK for this fight.

The thing wrong with it is that this fight isn't generating the kind of local (US) interest the promoters would have hoped for. It'll be 60% Brits from the sound of things.

depends how many tickets are sold though, 8k americans for a us debut is decent when you also can do around 10ks brits, aj never fought in the us and can only get bigger if he keeps winning

This was supposed to be AJ's coming out party in the US. I'm sure the promoters wanted to make a US splash with US fans. The UK fans provide a backstop. If it only sells 8k local, it would be a disappointment and show the state of boxing in the US. Not too many know who AJ is. Not sure how a UK dominated crowd helps that.

I must admit I was surprised Joshua trained in Miami. If had trained in New York he could have made himself known to the locals a bit more in recent weeks.

The loss of Miller hasn't helped, by now there would have been viral videos on social media of hands being thrown and the likes.

They have also lost the UK vs USA vibe by playing up Ruiz's Mexican heritage.

The real test of this flight's success will be how many people subscribe to DAZN this week to see it.

hes never fought in the us before, its hardly like hes already been doing much to build his brand there, a traveling crowd still add to the atmosphere, big event feel, and sustainability of fighting abroad
