early Benny Leonard bout

Post by Senya13 »

On April 26, 1912, Benny Leonard had a (likely 6-round) no-decision bout with Kid Goodman at Elks' Hall, Rutherford, NJ.
Eddie Hammond was the referee.

1912-04-27 Passaic Daily News (Passaic, NJ) (page 3)
Kid Goodman and Benny Leonard were the third attraction. Both come from New York and the Kid gave about ten pounds weight to his opponent which, for a battle between lightweights, was a considerable disadvantage. But the Kid stood up like a tiger and did not show a sign of weakness when the session was over. It was both men's victory.

Unfortunately, the other Passaic newspaper (Daily Herald) didn't mention this bout, only reporting the results of 2 out of 4 bouts.

Thanks, it was listed as an undated 1912 6-round ND fight with one 'Kid Goldman' in his record here.
