Is Ito normally this bad? He looked incredibly crude in there. The fact that he was somehow considered a world champ is a good indication of how watered down that term has become.

I agree. It seemed like Ito had no inspiration or desire to win. He gave up early rounds like I’ve never seen before.jujigatame wrote: ↑26 May 2019, 00:43 Is Ito normally this bad? Ward & Bradley continually pointed out that Ito was stylistically crude & limited because he had ZERO amateur boxing experience (not a single fight). It was only his 2nd time fighting outside Japan.

Yea but that's my point. How did a fighter this crude become a "world champ"? I guess it's because somehow the WBO decided he and Chris Diaz were worthy of fighting for a vacant title (which of course is a joke) and Ito was the less poor of the two.Best Coast wrote: ↑26 May 2019, 02:40 Ward & Bradley continually pointed out that Ito was stylistically crude & limited because he had ZERO amateur boxing experience (not a single fight). I'm guessing Herring will get targeted by a lot of fighters now, because he's the easiest road to a belt in the division, by a wide margin.

Like a shark circling around a fishing boat Miguel Berchelt was in the ring challenging Herring as soon as the decision was announced.jujigatame wrote: ↑26 May 2019, 10:46 I'm guessing Herring will get targeted by a lot of fighters now, because he's the easiest road to a belt in the division, by a wide margin.

If memory serves, you called Herring to win this fight! Nicely done!

Re: Masayuki Ito vs. Jamel Herring - May 25, 2019
First couple of rounds were close as both seemed wound up tight and ready to go.
Herring's jab, straight left and all round boxing ability put him in the drivers seat but it wasn't easy as Ito was a very competitive opponent and threatened throughout most of the fight.
Herring's overall body of work is well above average he's a very skillful boxer, he utilizes most of his tools to the best of their abilities and takes advantage of a lot of the smaller points of a bout, seems like a switched on fighter.
Although behind Ito was always in the fight and his conditioning was excellent as was Herring's, they really gave their all in a well fought contest.

Not so sure Herring is the easiest road to a super feather world title. Berchelt & Gervonta are above the rest but I consider the other 130# champs pretty evenly matched: Herring/Farmer/Cancio are a level below the first two IMO.jujigatame wrote: ↑26 May 2019, 10:46 Yea but that's my point. Robert Flores the ex-ESPN guy said that? Seems kinda fake, that sort of thing would be career suicide.

I know he did FNF a few times but I thought he worked for some other network now.
