Most definitely.

I did not think Ruiz was going to beat Joshua, so I give major credit to anyone who stated as much BEFORE IT HAPPENED TONIGHT.

I did think that, like Bowe and Lewis, something was gonna happen to the Wilder and Joshua mega fight/fight of the generation. That they wouldn’t meet as undefeated guys a la Ali V Frazier.

That the wasted time and build ups and endless “marinating” was going to backfire.

And it did.
Didn’t think tonight was gonna be the night or Ruiz the guy, but I hope they celebrate him in Mexico like he justly deserves.

Not sure I picked it but one thing was clear. You have a questionable chin champion putting on loads of muscle causing him to have stamina problems against a pilsbury dough boy who happens to have a good chin, good power, and possibly better stamina. Throw in some partying with Miami and this is what happens.

That sh*t doesn't count to me as at least 7 or 8 of those people were just joking and picking it as a goof

I was never, ever sold on AJ. Bodybuilder physique notwithstanding, he still looked/is "novice-like" in many of his "in ring" habits and tendencies. His fight with Parker was basically two novices looking mediocre. Ruiz beat Parker (7-5 at worst) but lost a hometown decision. Strength and conditioning highlights of Joshua filled with utter nonsense and rubbish. (S&C in combat sports are typically all charlatans.) Big amateur background advantage for Ruiz also played into my thoughts. Big chin, big balls and big heart, combined with a favourable matchup skill-set wise.

That properly put the cat among the pigeons. No harm to AJ but that needed to happen to liven up the division. Well done Andy Ruiz! As for AJ, he can come again.

Man, I argee with you on Joshua, but I, for example, thought, that Ruiz was just even worse. So that's was quite an achievement for you to find something in Ruiz.

I knew Ruiz was a good, solid boxer with a strong chin. I knew he had quick hands and bee sting fists.

But, what I did not realize is that he has improved his power by keeping his weight up.

I figured AJ would essentially do a Povetkin on him. When Ruiz got splashed like a water balloon in the 3rd I figured I was right.

But, if you rewatch it look at how Ruiz gets up from the KD. You can see he is clear headed and thinking about a trap.

Ruiz is a menacing wolverine, with massive heart.

Just from the basic "eye-test" as it were... naturally knows how to let his hands go, which explains his surprising hand speed. Watching him hit the bag and the confidence he displays in live fights countering and exchanging, my first reaction was, hey ... this kid can fight.
Easy to tell that he prolly doesn't work as hard as he could and is obviously undisciplined in regards to eating like an athlete. BUT... just came off a full camp and excellent result vs Demitrienko (where he also displayed a solid beard). He also seemed rather non-plussed by the whole situation. That's the beauty of boxing... looking like a bodybuilder and being a "great athlete" or an "A" level athlete doesn't mean anything if you're not the real deal.

Had some shades of Sanders v Klitschko I thought.
