Personally I don't give a flipping shit what Hearn or Joshua wants, saying that they want the rematch in England.
If you are not the champion you shouldn't be able to dictate ANYTHING concerning a rematch's location, purse, etc--- cus it's no longer your wheelhouse.
The rematch should happen (if it happens) in Los Angeles or Las Vegas or Mexico. Not overseas on Joshua's turf.
If it's up to Ruiz I'd do it at the biggest stadium Mexico has to offer. The 1st ever Mexican Heavyweight Champion making his inaugural title defense in a Boxing crazed country with giant soccer stadiums of rabid fight fans...I don't know I'm thinking it'd be kinda a big deal
That being said, it'll be a big fight no matter it is. It's gotta be U.K. or Mexico though because that's where the biggest money and interest would be.
I do know if Ruiz is able to beat Joshua a 2nd time. He should be perfectly entitled to at least 1 gimme title defense in Mexico, just for the hell of it.
Put him in there with a guy he DEFINITELY won't lose to, and just let the Mexican fight fans enjoy their Heavyweight Champion in their country. Plus it would just be smart management, and would make a mint for Ruiz and those around him.

i highly doubt mexico is financially the biggest spot, tickets would prob be cheap to do big numbers and not huge site fees
Yeah it's almost certainly not, but the atmosphere would be amazing. I'm sure it'd be something else in the U.K. too.

I was thinking about this today. If Ruiz wins the UK rematch he should definitely, definitely make his second defense in Mexico.

I believe Hearn said UK last night.
Hearn no longer controls the heavyweight champion. He'd better have a watertight rematch clause which includes a requirement that the rematch is held in England or his boy will be made to travel again.

What a party that’d be
He and the Mexican fight fans would deserve a night like that if he pulls off the shocking win, and repeats the feat. It'd be something to see.

Nah. He's a native of the country. Ruiz isn't.
Most Mexicans had probably never heard of Ruiz before last night.
A rising tide raises all ships. Ruiz's Championship can ultimately only garner new interest in Boxing, and draw even more popularity to the sport than it already had in Mexico, and since Ruiz is a Heavyweight and Canelo a Middleweight there's no chance they have to fight each other. They're just 2 big stars for the country.

Ruiz gotta demand Mexico. He's a champ, it's up to him. In the UK Joshua will have the judges' aid. If Ruiz somehow won't be able to KO AJ again, he can be robbed. He already had a robbery case in a title fight, he must be smarter now.

Yes if he's not contractually obliged to fight in the U.K. he'd be wise not to. I know the money will be maximized in the U.K., but the chances of his keeping the title will be decreased obviously.
If Joshua just fought trying to survive, and stand up he might get it.
.. Las Vegas just like any other venue where they appoint up to 4 nationals to officiate disqualifies itself by screwing up careers of top boxers representing other countries ... Britain is a bit better but still far from a perfect location considering AJ being a household name...ideally speaking, it should be some more or less "neutral" venue..

Promotional differences would probably make that idea a no-go. Even for separate bouts.
Azteca should hold more than 110,000. Chavez-Haugen attracted around 130,000.
I remember Haugen-Chavez
It's fitting, in a way, remembering it. Haugen said all Chavez fought was taxi cab drivers. After the fight he joked, "Chavez fought the toughest cab drivers in the world."
Joshua & Hearn pegged Ruiz to just be a Mexican cab driver. They thought wrong.

130k then! Set the promotional differences a side...make it happen.
I’d love to see a heavyweight championship fight in Latin America. Can’t think of the last one...only thing that comes to mind offhand is Johnson Willard.
It’s like if Firpo had beaten Dempsey and then defended in Argentina.

Is Cuba considered Latin America?
Johnson losing to Willard in the Havana heat would be my guess too.
Other than that, I don't believe any heavyweight title fights have been staged in Latin America since.
