Johnson losing to Willard in the Havana heat would be my guess too.

Other than that, I don't believe any heavyweight title fights have been staged in Latin America since.

Wait. Wasn't Ali-Coopman fought in Puerto Rico?
No. Belgium.

Good one. The Caracas Caper in 1974. True Latin America.

Recall Foreman, walking on crutches, ready to leave the country with an oh-so-sudden knee injury.

A quick upward adjustment to his purse rapidly relieved all the pain. Although Norton felt plenty pain hours later.

I haven't checked yet but wasn't Coopman from Belgium (the Lion of Flanders) but the bout was held in Puerto Rico?

Now that part I don't remember. How was it solved?

Seems a lot of strange things went down in Caracas.

My apologies.

They had to scramble to find new ones. LMAO! I wonder if Big George's corner stole them! It happened not too long before the card started.

Let me guess. Norton later claimed that the shoe replacements affected his performance??

I don't remember that, but it was the Norton camp who reported it. Silly if he did.

I knew Belgium was in there somewhere  I guess I assumed that's where it happened because Ali fought Dunn in Germany (I think) so I would have thought it'd make sense for it to be Belgium rather than some island.
