Can AJ do a Wlad?

Post by SAPFO »

I think he needs to change his style to protect his frailties like Wlad had to. Is AJ capable, can McCracken coach this into him?

Ironically, I think it’s Wlad who can fix AJ.

Does anybody know if Wlad has a desire to coach?

No AJ cannot become Wlad. And please do not wish another boring dreary Wlad-style era on boxing. It was like a new dark age had descended on the sport, a long, horrible 10-year night where the gods of boxing all slept.

Also, Wlad is a multi-millionaire. I doubt he can be arsed working for Anthony Joshua.

I’d rather Joshua retire than try to emulate Wlad. People like Joshua because he comes to fight and look for a knockout, even when he should box. The last thing the heavyweight division needs is another super-negative, boring guy. We already have Fury for that

But it's also prize fighting, and Wlad actually got the heavyweight title taken off US television his fights were so bad.

Wlad had incredible height and reach advantage on 90% of the HW's of his era, which is why that style worked. It's not the same today.

I personally don't find Fury to be boring. But Wladimir was boring. There's a difference in my mind at least between a slick, fast moving stylist and a guy who paws with the jab & clinches when he hits like a ton of bricks. It never made sense to me.

He doesn't have the legs/mobility that Wlad possesed to fight in the same way. Wlad was always super light on his feet for a huge guy. The one time he met someone with even superior movement for a man of similar size, was when he lost to Fury.

Much better movement than Joshua aswell. Light on his feet. AJ is very flat footed.

Joshua doesn't need to 'do a Wlad' because he is a lot more skilled than Wlad.

He’s not saying it isn’t smart, I think you completely missed the point.

Like Joshua did v Ruiz?
Joshua boxed tall and at range v Parker but last night strangely boxed small.

Speaking in general about today's HW landscape. For the most part, they are bigger than in Wlad's era.

If i was AJ id ask Lennox Lewis to coach him on how to make his size and his jab his advantage. I just think his chin is suspect add quit to this and you wont regain your invincibility status again. Whyte would never quit neither would chisora.
