Re: Round-by-Round: Anthony Joshua vs. Andy Ruiz Jr. - 1 June 2019
As I keep saying, Joshua just didn’t look right from the very start. It’s not like he suddenly fell apart after the 3rd round, he was acting & fighting weird before that.
Regardless, his tactics were completely wrong for this fight. All he had to do was keep Ruiz on the end of a strong jab and follow it up with a right hand when the opportunity presented itself. Someone really needs to show him some tapes of Lennox

Cheers buddy. Yes he does look odd, he is watching something but even so doesn’t look quite right does he. There are rumours he was ill going into the fight

Maybe he was wondering if he could perform without his drugs?

No im not saying its as simple as that. Im just saying he seems to fight going backwards and using the jab. There isnt that killer instinct that scares opponents. I would just like to see a bit more enthusiasm 'im the champ dont stand in my face' sort of thing.Ricky wrote: ↑03 Jun 2019, 07:55 Bollocks, you really think it is as simple as "take the fight to him"? He didn't step to Ruiz because he was getting counter-punched to shreds by a guy who not only had much faster hands, but much greater output and superior timing. Even a hurt Ruiz in R3 got the much better of a toe-to-toe exchange with AJ.

I think hes concentrating on whats on his phone. Detaching himself, something David Price should do.Controversial wrote: ↑03 Jun 2019, 08:25 Cheers buddy. Yes he does look odd, he is watching something but even so doesn’t look quite right does he. There are rumours he was ill going into the fight

Sounds like the previous fight he’s watching. Whether that be Smith’s or Taylor’s. Who knows.Controversial wrote: ↑03 Jun 2019, 08:25 Cheers buddy. Yes he does look odd, he is watching something but even so doesn’t look quite right does he. There are rumours he was ill going into the fight
BTW, does AJ always have a conversation with his trainer between rounds? I’ve never really noticed before but he did do it a lot this fight. Asking Rob all these questions and having a full on conversation.

Yes, he was talking a lot between rounds in the Povetkin fight too. People are magnifying every action of Joshua because he lost. If Ruiz had stayed down in the third round, no one would be saying, 'phew, Joshua was lucky there, he didn't look right at all.' It would be business as usual.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑03 Jun 2019, 08:42 Sounds like the previous fight he’s watching. Whether that be Smith’s or Taylor’s. Who knows.

John Fury tweeted that AJ didn’t want to fight and that’s why AJs dad went for Hearn after the stoppage. Rumours of food poisoning too. It’s all very odd, AJ didn’t look right. As you say he was talking to his corner and asking advice really early.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑03 Jun 2019, 08:42 Sounds like the previous fight he’s watching. Whether that be Smith’s or Taylor’s. Plenty have boxed with a cold. Food poisoning I don’t believe. I follow AJ on Snap. The food he eats. Well then it depends.

The casual market in Germany adored Wlad (very casual too, on free to air TV with no undercard shown, the camera spent more time on Hayden Pantierre than interviews with the opposing fighter) despite his losses to the Sanders and Purrity, who were less than aesthetically pleasing.
I think Joshua can go on to headline more enormous stadium cards on PPV. I just don't know if he'll ever get to the stage again where he is seen as the best heavyweight in the world.

Yeh. There used to be like 4 fights on the card. That’s it.Gnome wrote: ↑04 Jun 2019, 07:12 The casual market in Germany adored Wlad (very casual too, on free to air TV with no undercard shown, the camera spent more time on Hayden Pantierre than interviews with the opposing fighter) despite his losses to the Sanders and Purrity, who were less than aesthetically pleasing.

What I don’t get is why they didn’t have any commentary on the 1 min highlight video earlier this week. I thought maybe they might edit some of the commentary out, but sounds as though they haven’t.NoScoutingReports wrote: ↑06 Jun 2019, 12:29 Full fight is on YouTube now, link is below in case anyone has missed it or wants to watch it back again.

watching that again, aj was really wild after dropping ruiz, he defo showed he can land big shots on ruiz and hurt him, but he started to trade right up close in ruizs best zone, and i dont think he ever recovered
really excited for the rematch, i think aj has the tools to win but it will be telling how he reacts this time vs a guy who beat him up for the last 4 rounds

Me too , can't wait and I'll nail my colours to the mast and say Joshua gets the win this time .jamamb wrote: ↑06 Jun 2019, 14:30 watching that again, aj was really wild after dropping ruiz, he defo showed he can land big shots on ruiz and hurt him, but he started to trade right up close in ruizs best zone, and i dont think he ever recovered

Gill boxed with food poisoning a few weeks ago and we know how that ended .Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑03 Jun 2019, 08:48 Yh. I heard he was going sick at Hearn cuz AJ was ill.

aj to me looked off from the start, maybe over trained, i lift weights 4 hours a week , and try to add a bit off shadow boxing ,heavy bag 2 hours a week also full time job , some days iam drained as a mother , i think he needs to cut the weight lifting down, do them when you retire ,ruiz on the front foot from the bell , aj looked sluggish no jab or real movement, ruiz is tough has fast hands and an engine bit like a land rover, aj quick hands nearly got him out of trouble, then he rushed it maybe because he felt off and thought theres a chance here, got a hook from ruiz and never recovered from it ,aj legs were gone after, fair play to ruiz he aint no bum, i dont think its a shock , an upset , but i never rated aj as the best in the division

Re: Round-by-Round: Anthony Joshua vs. Andy Ruiz Jr. - 1 June 2019
Ruiz manages to land 2 big shots on the top of the head inside 5 seconds to put Josh over first time, fantastic timing to achieve that, but its the big right hand smack on Joshua’s chin right at the end of the round that spells the end for the big man. No way back from that. No wonder he recalls nothing after that....
Brave fighter is Joshua to hang in there, only confusion / concussion at the end of the fight cause him to misunderstand the ref, there’s no quit in the man.
Even braver to take the rematch right away, a real tightrope act that’ll be. I think Hearn is too impatient to get the belts back, he needs to give AJ time to regroup and get his confidence back first. Very dangerous fight to take with Ruiz’ confidence flying.
