Eddie Hearn .... is he bothered?
Re: Eddie Hearn .... is he bothered?
This is a major, major setback for Hearn and his desires to be the number 1 promoter stateside.
As stated by others, Joshua's commercial value was huge and on another level to anything in world boxing with the exception of Canelo.
Hearn loved being the promoter of the undefeated and unified heavyweight champion and enjoyed the trappings that came with that including exposure and massive cuts of huge sold out Wembley stadium shows etc. Joshua is Hearn's cash cow and that is now at real risk of becoming yesterday's news particularly if Joshua gets clinically dispatched in the rematch. Hearn's link to Joshua was probably the biggest reason why he was able to get that deal with DAZN.
Joshua's commercial value has dropped and this will affect Hearn's profits and his status. Hearn is ego driven. I can't recount how many times he crowed about putting on a huge promotion at MSG. Shame it ended so badly for him when you also consider that Katie Taylor and Josh Kelly were both less than convincing.

Is a promoter bothered about his fighter losing the unified heavyweight titles? I would imagine so.

Eddie does seem genuine towards his boxers. Of course he wants them to do well. If they do well, his company does well. The more they win and earn, the more he earns. It’s a business at the end of the day, but no doubt Hearn wants his fighters to do well.handsofstone wrote: ↑03 Jun 2019, 16:14 I know Eddie's a bit of a second hand car salesman but I think he does have the majority of his fighters best interests at heart, even his biggest critics can doubt his passion for the sport, he's a rich kid so I doubt money motivates him to much, I think he's more driven by being successful, some of his reactions when his man has won is as real as you'll see, Froch, Crolla, Barker, Brook, Katie Taylor and Allen come to mind, some guys like Khan, Chisora and maybe even Whyte these days might be more of a business relationship but I doubt they'll care too much, they don't seem the type
I think out of all the guys he's promoted i'd imagine he's most heavily invested in Joshua, not only is he the cash cow and the Matchroom trailblazer but whatever you think of AJ's ability, both of them took over the game in this county and more or less beyond in a short space of time, the tickets sales, PPV numbers, endorsements etc, it was global
He signed Khan for fücks sake. He knows Khan = Money. So he signed him. No funny business. And he promoted his 2 fights well.

Exactly there's nothing in a contract that states a fighter and his promoter must like each other, Warren and Arum don't seem like the type to lose sleep over a fighter, both more than happy to ruin guys careersRuthless-RKO wrote: ↑03 Jun 2019, 16:37 Eddie does seem genuine towards his boxers. He'll be bothered if AJ loses the rematch, otherwise he'll recoup with all-great-heavies-lost interviews and it's a bump in the road.
Re: Eddie Hearn .... is he bothered?
I didn't say he should leave, I said it wouldn't be the worst thing. After a loss like that, sometimes it's best to wash the slate clean and begin anew. AJ has been the showpiece for a long time with MR. It's added pressure to be the centerpiece in a big stable. At the very least, I'd like to see him get a new trainer and camp.

Re: Eddie Hearn .... is he bothered?
It’s a problem.
The interview with Skipper confirms that the majority of DAZN subscriptions have been due to Canelo.
Eddies biggest contribution to that channel so far was holding the keys to Jacobs. That has been cashed in.
Joshua was on a fight by fight deal stateside and that’s probably saved DAZN a lot of money given Joshua’s next fight will be in the UK and his market value in the states has collapsed.
Arum, Harmon, Oscar remain the main players stateside. Between them they hold the heavyweight, middleweight and welterweight belts and money making fights.
Of more interest in the medium term is what Sky do.
Ignore the bullshite. Saturday was a sickener for the Hearns.

He’s definitely bothered, AJ must generate the vast majority of Matchroom’s boxing income, not to mention his Rival Al Haymon now controls all 4 belts and Al being Al, he’ll keep them in-house, if that happens all the HW’s will have to sign with him if they want a shot.

Re: Eddie Hearn .... is he bothered?
Joshua has said there was no agreement for a rematch. Also Whyte is WBO mandatory.
I suspect there will be a rematch as Ruiz will make more money but I guess the titles will become fragmented now especially WBO.
Re: Eddie Hearn .... is he bothered?
Joshua said he doesn't pay attention to rematch clauses because he always expects to win. There is a rematch clause.

Re: Eddie Hearn .... is he bothered?
There is a rematch clause. Joshua was just saying that he was so confident of winning that he never actually asked if there was or not.
Re: Eddie Hearn .... is he bothered?
They’ll 100% be a rematch clause - standard issue for a World Champ especially at that level.
Ortiz has same clause 6-7m - 10m rematch and 1.5m for fight afterwards.
Re: Eddie Hearn .... is he bothered?
There is a rematch clause. It will happen if Joshua wants it. The details are yet be discussed and or course, Joshua needs to get his head-straight first and formally confirm if he even wants the rematch. Though I’d be shocked if he didn’t take it. Whether the IBF and WBO calls their mandatories will be interesting.

i think theres a rematch clause and isnt the ibf gonna order ruiz vs fury, ruiz will have to fight outside of house to keep the belts, its hard to stay totally in house with so many belts and obligations
Re: Eddie Hearn .... is he bothered?
The Sky issue is complicated with Matchroom also having Snooker and PDC Darts - the darts are massive draw on Sky and give them live shows 12 months of the year coverage wise.garethhop wrote: ↑03 Jun 2019, 17:04 It’s a problem.

If it wasn’t Eddie Hearn it would be someone else - the cash (whether we like it or not) is in the US at present - and fighters want the most cash. We had our boom in the UK for 2-3 years but it’s now starting to slow down again and less live shows on TV.
Warren sold his best 3 names to Top Rank as well.
Re: Eddie Hearn .... is he bothered?
Eddies gonna be real bothered , AJ was his gateway to america , he'll desperatly want Whyte or Usyk to start making ground now ,, Will there be a rematch , well if he's gonna carry on it needs to happen , because , chances are he don't take it Fury or Wilder will , Parker is probably on the phone to him has we speak .
Trouble is Hearn created a monster , AJ has got that big he's no longer AJ the boxer , he became AJ the coperate machine , Hearn has said many a time he works for AJ that Anthony calls the shots , Anthony has his finger on the pulse , well besides other issues , stamina ect , this alone is a big issue , he's not concentrating on what needs to be done .

I didn't say he should, I said it wouldn't be the worst thing. After a loss like that it's sometimes good to clean the slate and at least change trainers and camp personnel. Get back to basics.tiny_acres wrote: ↑03 Jun 2019, 21:23 That would be foolish. Joshua could never make the money he has and can make without Hearn

I believe he needs a new trainer. He's robotic with minimal ring IQ.
He needs a better cornerman

Re: Eddie Hearn .... is he bothered?
Its customary to blame the trainer now a days when the loss happens , its not always fair , and personaly i think Mckracken is a good trainer , he's done well with the England AMETEUR team .... But does AJ need another trainer , i definetly agree HE DOES , Has Rob got too much on his plate ,and leaving too much to others with science background not boxing , i don't know , Does Rob Mcracken know what he's doing , course he does and he's generally good at it ,, But there are definetly issues here .tiny_acres wrote: ↑03 Jun 2019, 21:421

Least of all , AJ does'nt seem to have improved , Aj has actually got worse , his stamina has floundered to say the least , he's becoming more and more robotic has his carreer goes on , his ring IQ has not improved , in fact i think it would be fair to say , he's regressed , now has to wether or not Mcracken is'nt teaching him , or AJ is'nt listening , it does'nt matter , he needs to go to someone who will make him listen and learn , either way he needs to get rid of all the outside distractions and concentrate soley on boxing

Re: Eddie Hearn .... is he bothered?
I have genuinely been interested in the replies on this thread - theres been some good ones.
I will repeat I think Eddie Hearn has done bloody well for himself, Matchroom Sports and boxing in the UK. The point in my thread is to ask the question due to Eddie having so many "prominent" heavyweights signed to his promotional companies.
A lot of you have made the point which I missed which is you feel Eddie is definetly bothered on a personal level because AJ has been with Eddie since the beginning of his professional career.
The point which interests me more than any other is the possibility of AJ getting rid of Robert McCracken, a point which I disagree with due to rating McCracken extremely highly. McCracken has been the head of an extremely successful UK Amateur Boxing Team. in addition steering Carl Froch from start to finish in an extremely successful professional career as well as guiding AJ thus far.
After reading the posts on this thread and others its difficult not to come to the conclusion in my view something wasnt right in the lead up to the fight & on the night he got beaten by a hungrier fighter.

How many of the class of 2002 flourished under McCracken?Spud wrote: ↑04 Jun 2019, 01:33 The point which interests me more than any other is the possibility of AJ getting rid of Robert McCracken, a point which I disagree with due to rating McCracken extremely highly. Is his reputation built on Froch's granite chin?
Froch and AJ were brilliant amateurs. Which other pros have done well under McCracken?
