Joshua KO'd in sparring before Ruiz fight
Joshua KO'd in sparring before Ruiz fight
Rumors going around that Anthony Joshua was KO'd in sparring by Joey Dawejko http://boxrec.com/en/boxer/512687. A few weeks before the Ruiz fight.
Apparently because of this. Anthony Joshua's dad. Robert, wanted the fight with Ruiz pulled as he didn't think Anthony Joshua could beat Ruiz.
This is the reason why Anthony Joshua had to pull his father away from Eddie Hearn after the fight. Who could been seen pointing and shouting at Eddie while Ruiz was being interviewed after his win.

Re: Joshua KO'd in sparring before Ruiz fight
There not gonna pull a fight of this importance , because a fighters dad gets cold feet and thinks his boy will lose , and too be honest if he was showing such negativity in the build up , he should'nt be allowed anywhere near future camps ...

I have nothing to contribute other than that I was always sure Joey Dawejko was black. No idea why.

Dawejko posts on CS from time to time, or at least he did when I used to read the forum

Even if Joey did it he's a gentleman. He'll never say he did or didn't. He's a sportsman not an attention whore. Even if it was true it's still AJ's decision to fight. So the blame is all on AJ's shoulders.

Re: Joshua KO'd in sparring before Ruiz fight
Dropped & the sparring called off, or actually knocked out?
Re: Joshua KO'd in sparring before Ruiz fight
Can’t imagine anyone knocking out AJ in sparring with 20oz gloves and headguard in. Dropped maybe , staggered for sure . But actually KOd!
Not unless AJ was in his 15th round of sparring and Wilder got in there with him fresh

Pale and Pace
Comes to mind from all this talk about AJ getting sparked for the past year, though, that my belief in minimal sparring might be right. Nigel Benn was an advocate of just doing a bit to get his timing and range, whereas Eubank was the opposite and thrived on it. To date, I think Eubank's been very lucky re: pugilistica dementia. Maybe it's another quirk that gave him such a good chin and he'll be fine, but heavy sparring's not my idea of useful for most people.
I think it's a catch-22, where if you're a Sweet Pea or Bomber you don't need it, and if you're getting hit for trying to learn how to not get hit, you're getting hit! Plus, some fighters rely on heavy shots to keep their opponents honest in real bouts, and they're a lot more vulnerable without them.

I've heard jawejko & kabayel mentioned
Re: Joshua KO'd in sparring before Ruiz fight
So after a quiet few rounds AJ drops Ruiz then goes in to finish, Ruiz keeps calm under fire and rocks his world with a left hook. How does a panic attack or getting dropped in sparring cause this? People are talking absolute nonsense. AJ then struggles to recover and Ruiz is reading his attacks like a book and making him pay via combinations. AJ was absolutely fine before that counter hook in round 3, actually that assault that AJ landed on Ruiz in round 3 was sharp as hell. No panic attacks, no conspiracies and no excuses. AJ has flaws and Ruiz exploited them on Saturday.

I generally agree, although it might depend on when he got dropped and how hard - it might have had a physical effect on his punch resistance.emallini wrote: ↑04 Jun 2019, 21:15 So after a quiet few rounds AJ drops Ruiz then goes in to finish, Ruiz keeps calm under fire and rocks his world with a left hook. I don't think Calzaghe did a lot of sparring.

He lost to Ruiz. Get a grip. It's not the JFK assassination.
