The difference between Lennox Lewis and AJ is Lennox knew he was the best and believed he was the best heavyweight on the planet and AJ has doubt that he is and it showed in this fight, lewis would fight anywere in the world and knew he would win

Definately true which made up for the fact he was susceptible to being taken out with one shot

Lennox was a far more natural boxer very loose and relaxed, unlike the very stiff robotic Joshua and fought much better opposition before becoming champion, learning his trade early.

Grant hit him flush with some big shots which bounced off, over confidence caused his 2 defeats i think.

For sure he took both fights lightly. With Rachman he gassed as much as anything.

The difference is LL had confidence oozing out of him which you seen in his fights you heard in his interviews and you never seen him gas out in any fight(apart from rahman 1,which was due to him knowing he is the best). Even wilder believes he is the best and will take on anyone knowing he will knock out anyone, same with fury.

Having had panic attacks myself in my lifetime, they can be debilitating. So if he had one, then yeah, I can see it being the cause of the defeat.

HOWEVER.... someone who just had an attack isn't going to drop the challenger and seem poised for victory... No what happened was Joshua made a complete rookie mistake, in being over confident and went for a follow-up knockdown too quickly .... He got countered, hit right on the ear and temple a few times, and never recovered from the barrage of punches.

Tall men should NEVER fight small. He left himself up completely to be taken advantage of and paid the price.

Joshua wasn't at his best that night, but I'm not sure I buy into all these behind the scenes stories, particularly given the (lack of) source material.

He had a bad night in the office and Ruiz was bang on form, he took full advantage. Boxing is a brutal sport.

Serena Williams, Tottenham Hotspur and Exeter Chiefs all put in below par performances at the weekend. Difference is, they didn't bet the snot beaten out of them for it (Exeter did a bit, but not in the same way).

Boxerbeetle wrote: 04 Jun 2019, 06:32 Exactly, Lewis had pretty much won every minute of the first Rahman fight before getting ko’d out of nowhere. Joshua was beaten up for most of his fight.
AJ was in total control of that fight until he underestimated The Fat King of Boxing’s ability to recover from the KD. AJ fell into a trap and got caught with a shot he could NOT recover from. But, AJ kept getting up.

That is why AJ “was beaten up for most of the fight.”

If LL had been able to struggle to his feet after Rahman’s shot, he would have been beaten to a pulp.

Panic attacks oftentimes happen completely unprovoked. For no reason at all. It's not just anxiety driven.

Could argue that paradoxically the loss does him some good (in terms of being unbeaten, scrutiny & media attention) although I'd be concerned going forward about the way he seemingly just mentally and physically collapsed and did a number of things wrong/badly that led to him losing. He also tried to get up way, way too quickly after the first KD.

A rumour is out that he was panicking about homosexual rumours about to be released.

Not that there is anything wrong with that of course, but when the "other man is Adam cobbles Smith I can understand the problem

I think this is a plausible reason why AJ wasnt looking himself.

Having suffered panic attacks myself I understand what goes on inside the head when this happens.

discuss.
Sounds like bullshit and it angers me that they are trying to jump on the mental health bandwagon to explain away that Joshua has been pratting about on Miami Beach with his 30 man entourage like Maria Carey instead of grafting. humble my arse the guy is a diva with a PR firm behind his back.

Every boxing fan and boxer, hell every sports person and sports fan knows if you start talking about your next opponent when you haven't dealt with the one you are facing in the next week that complacency has set in and you are heading for a fall.

It’s a reality check for Joshua and how he responds next will show if he is a true champion or an over hyped fancy dan.

It’s exactly the same scenario as Lewis filming oceans 11 instead of being in his training camp before the 1st rahman fight.

They aren't jumping on anything, literally nobody from their camp has said anything about it.

The story of the panic attack and being ko’d In sparring were leaked within minutes of the loss.

It gives AJ’s team the appearance of being humble in defeat yet having the excuses circulating freely.

Also Joshua’s dad is pretty much part of his team.

So either a. He’s making it up and jumping on the mental health bandwagon.

Or b. It’s true and for some reason Hearn is denying it.

C. They’ve leaked the stories as a PR stunt
