Re: BoxRec Forum HW TOP 15 Ranking update - Joshua vs Ruiz Jr
I have watched it five times, so far. Never been a fight quite like it. AJ is catching hell but The Fat King of Boxing walked through absolute hell to become King of the hill.
Ruiz is a VERY deserving champion and AJ has nothing to be ashamed of. I am not sure that there is an HW out there who could have gotten up from that bomb and walk through the shots he had to to land his temple shots.
AJ may not be great, but he has provided a number of the most entertaining HW wars of this century. He does not deserve the level of disrespect he is being pelted with. He was King of Boxing for years. If he chooses to he will be a factor for years to come.
Re: BoxRec Forum HW TOP 15 Ranking update - Joshua vs Ruiz Jr
Joshua down to #3, Ruiz Jr enters at #4.
Because of their resumes outside of this fight, I have a hunch that Ruiz probably doesn't beat Joshua 10 times out of 10. If McCall isn't truly better than Lewis, then do you rate McCall above Lewis? Because of Ruiz's MD loss to Parker, I wonder whether Ruiz is truly even top 5.

My vote: Joshua down to #6, Ruiz Jr enters at #1.
Re: BoxRec Forum HW TOP 15 Ranking update - Joshua vs Ruiz Jr
It would be very interesting too see how many "experts" here, on this thread, had Andy Ruiz on their lists of the top 15 HWs, before he faced AJ.
Of course, I have not enough time and the nerves to check this, but, again, it would be very interesting to see.

Re: BoxRec Forum HW TOP 15 Ranking update - Joshua vs Ruiz Jr
He didn't make the original forum top 15 so wouldn't have been on many lists. Saying that there wasn't a lot between 8th and 15th at the time.
Re: BoxRec Forum HW TOP 15 Ranking update - Joshua vs Ruiz Jr
i think i had voted for him to be 15th when there was a few vacanies. i think he just missed a spot
Re: BoxRec Forum HW TOP 15 Ranking update - Joshua vs Ruiz Jr
I will try to find out the original thread.

Re: BoxRec Forum HW TOP 15 Ranking update - Joshua vs Ruiz Jr
When we started to do the lists, in the first voting that determined the first top 15 (it was the voting where everyone posted his top 15) out of the 20 votes only 1 had Ruiz Jr (the user who had him in top 15 was conan_the_cribber, at first, he had the #15 spot vacant but eventually he gave it to Ruiz Jr). 23 fighters received at least one vote, Andy Ruiz Jr ended at #22 ex aequo with Sergey Kuzmin. He got ranked below the likes of Carlos Takam and Marco Huck. The voting started 6 January and ended 16 January.
From 20 to 28 April we had the voting on vacant spot after Miller got removed from the list for his juicing. 14 users participated in the voting, everyone had to choose the 3 most deserving fighter to get the #15. in total 12 fighters received at least 1 vote. Andy Ruiz Jr ended at 3, below Joyce and Hunter who were placed respectively 2 and 1. 6 out of 14 users voted on Ruiz Jr. oogiebe and morm had him #3 (oogiebe at first had him out of the 3, and he had Takam at 3 but eventually he changed his vote after Ruiz vs Dimitrenko fight), Belanio had him at #2 and tiny_acres, jamamb and Heretic had him at #1.

Re: BoxRec Forum HW TOP 15 Ranking update - Joshua vs Ruiz Jr
So he was effectively 17th then? What was his box rec ranking? 15th? To be honest it's really difficult to rank heavyweights outwith the top 7 or 8, mainly due to inactivity and fighters around that level not facing each other much. In hindsight we maybe overlooked him a little and he should have been in the top 15 at that point.dagilechia wrote: ↑04 Jun 2019, 12:42 When we started to do the lists, in the first voting that determined the first top 15 (it was the voting where everyone posted his top 15) out of the 20 votes only 1 had Ruiz Jr (the user who had him in top 15 was conan_the_cribber, at first, he had the #15 spot vacant but eventually he gave it to Ruiz Jr). 23 fighters received at least one vote, Andy Ruiz Jr ended at #22 ex aequo with Sergey Kuzmin. Shows you how quickly things can change in boxing, particularly in the heavyweight division.

I've argued my point for a long time that Ruiz is and was a top 10 fighterdagilechia wrote: ↑04 Jun 2019, 12:42 When we started to do the lists, in the first voting that determined the first top 15 (it was the voting where everyone posted his top 15) out of the 20 votes only 1 had Ruiz Jr (the user who had him in top 15 was conan_the_cribber, at first, he had the #15 spot vacant but eventually he gave it to Ruiz Jr). 23 fighters received at least one vote, Andy Ruiz Jr ended at #22 ex aequo with Sergey Kuzmin. Re: BoxRec Forum HW TOP 15 Ranking update - Joshua vs Ruiz Jr
You guys are NUTS for putting Ruiz at #1 after this "questionable" victory over Anthony Joshua. Yes, AJ may have had a panic attack before the fight, but he clearly didn't look right most of the fight. It's still hard for me to fathom how he lost this fight. Maybe he does have a questionable chin, but to go down that easy from some of those punches by Ruiz....... ridiculous!!
I'm guessing Ruiz will lose in his first title defense, or his second, ( depending who he chooses to fight next ). I'm guessing AJ bounces back and regains a title within 2-3 years, and a few years from now, we will all be scratching our heads on what exactly happened that night.
Here's my current top 10:
1. Deontay Wilder
2. Tyson Fury
3. Andy Ruiz Jr.
4. Luis Ortiz
5. Anthony Joshua
6. Dillian Whyte
7. Joseph Parker
8. Daniel Dubois
9. Joe Joyce
10. Michael Hunter/ Oleksandr Usyk
