I believe the Ortiz contract said he would get $10m in the event of a rematch

I agree, at the end of the day Ruiz was lucky to have gotten a shot so I'm guessing he would have agreed to any terms.Boxingcutsman wrote: ↑04 Jun 2019, 16:19 I can’t see there being too many rigid or crazy clauses in the rematch contract as they never in their wildest dreams expected Joshua to get his arse handed to him, from past experience working in world title fights and dealing with the legal side and contracts etc I would assume that the original contract for the fight would of had numerous details as they do, 1 being in the case of A Ruiz win then there would be a rematch clause if the team so happen to want to execute it, with stipulations along the lines of Joshua picks venue and probably he gets 50/50 split and Matchroom in association with AJBxing co-promote the show other than that I can’t see there being a financial limitation or any rigid rules that would make it hard for Ruiz team to call some major shots and dictate a lot of the rematch clause is executed

Yh but like I say I think they might of dropped the ball to a degree mate, I really can’t see there being too much to not give Ruiz a lot of pull and say tbh as they didn’t expect this at all getting the useless fat guy in with 5 weeks notice little did they know that useless fat guy is a class class outright boxer, not just a athlete who fell into boxing late, with pure boxing pedigree from amateur elite 106-5 record through to pros, with imo the best fundemential boxing skills and ability and chin to go with his and hand speed out of any of the worlds boxers from Light-Heavyweight division up, imo.
If I was part of team Ruiz I would come to the UK for a Wembley stadium fight but would want £20 million British pounds, that includes % of gate, PPV, sponsorship etc as I could almost guarantee they never listed that as off limits in there rematch clause and contract

And I think Joshua should agree to that. Ruiz beat him fair and square, and it's both a mark of respect and a display of courage to rematch the champ at home.
If AJ's truly good enough to reclaim and beat Fury and Wilder, this is the sort of challenge he needs to relish.
Re: Hearn says rematch clause triggered
I'd be completely shocked if they went to Mexico. I don't think they'll be wanting to fight out of the UK in the future unless they are forced to.Grilling Machine wrote: ↑04 Jun 2019, 17:02 And I think Joshua should agree to that. I guess it depends on the rematch clauses but now they've confirmed they exist I expect them to be heavily stacked in matchroom's favour.

mexicos just fun talk, not a chance it happens there
Re: Hearn says rematch clause triggered
AJ & Hearn must be very keen for another hiding I guess

They'll want it in London. They'll want their usual ref with their usual judges. And they'll want more than the lion's share of the purse. They'll want to choose the ring and the gloves. And every other advantage they can get.Grilling Machine wrote: ↑04 Jun 2019, 17:20 The O2, else Wembley.
I just think it'd show all the right ingredients from Joshua if he demanded to meet in Mexico. I reckon it's what Ali would've done.

No doubt about it. Ruiz will be a stern test regardless. He's coming over as the heavyweight champion and should be afforded the respect that title deserves. It will be a huge event and I think Wembley is still viable. Could it do 80000? I think so.

If Ruiz wins the rematch under those circumstances it will be an even bigger statement than the first win.TheLeprechaun wrote: ↑04 Jun 2019, 17:34 No doubt about it. Let's see if he can handle being the champion with something to lose. I think he can but you can never say for certain.

Time will tell if this is the right choice for Joshua, he'll know what went wrong in the fight, if it's a long term issue that he needs to address then maybe he shouldve waited a bit, if it was something specific for this camp then he's good enough to beat Ruiz I still believe if he corrects things
Joshua's not as good technically as Kovalev but the way Kova outboxed Alvarez in the rematch is exactly what AJ should be thinking to do second time around

I'm just not sure Joshua can do that. People have a lot of faith in Joshua outboxing ruiz but I don't see where it comes from. I didn't really see anything in the fight that would lead me to believe Joshua can do a kovalev here. I don't think he has the skills that people think he does. Hell get hit and hurt again and taken out if he gives ground to ruiz. For me he has to be willing to exchange with ruiz and get there first. He's got fast hands himself.handsofstone wrote: ↑04 Jun 2019, 18:15 Time will tell if this is the right choice for Joshua, he'll know what went wrong in the fight, if it's a long term issue that he needs to address then maybe he shouldve waited a bit, if it was something specific for this camp then he's good enough to beat Ruiz I still believe if he corrects things

It's strange. I don't understand how AJ has fooled so many people (including respected boxing analysts) into think his skillset is much greater than it actually is. I don't think he's anywhere near Ruiz on pure boxing ability and only his power makes it remotely interesting.TheLeprechaun wrote: ↑04 Jun 2019, 18:33 I'm just not sure Joshua can do that. It's because he is so big and tall and uses his long shots so well. He is not an inside fighter.Ricky wrote: ↑04 Jun 2019, 18:55 It's strange. Re: Hearn says rematch clause triggered
Ruiz had 105 amateur fights. It shows as a difference in the ring. AJ has the physical advantages but Ruiz the pedigree. AJ will have a game plan for the rematch and I'd bet he wins this time. Nothing fancy, just hard jabs to the head and keeping proper distance. Be patient and wait for the openings to smack Ruiz. Tighten up the defense by merely keeping his freakin hands up (no body jabs) and high guard. And lastly avoid exchanges as much as possible. First fight was a good lesson for the lad, if he can take advantage of it. He'll also be way more relaxed in there.Ricky wrote: ↑04 Jun 2019, 18:55 It's strange.
