Give it to me brothers!
Re: Best fight 1980-1982?
Leonard v Hearns. Instinctive reaction. I haven't thought deeply about this but felt I didn't need to.
Re: Best fight 1980-1982?
I agree about the 1st Duran-Leonard fight. It was a brawl, but it has also presented a high display of boxing skill set.

Leonard v Duran 1 for kicking off their trilogy and the four kings era. The first 2, like the Godfather films, were great drama. The third, not so much.

Except for Weaver/Tate, benitez/Duran, qawi/Saad, hearns/benitez, spinks/Mustafa & Weaver/Tate. Nobody ever called those fights great.tiny_acres wrote: ↑05 Dec 2017, 10:37Great listEnlightened-One wrote: ↑05 Dec 2017, 10:28 • Salvador Sanchez vs. Danny Lopez

You should be careful, because there are obvious consequences to being needlessly facetious, due to the fact that it may sometimes backfire and portray yourself in a bad light.

Re: Best fight 1980-1982?
Leonard-Duran 1, probably.
After 15 rounds, you were as breathless as the fighters. In defeat, Leonard proved he was no "Made for Television" fighter.
Pryor-Arguello 1 also has to be up there. The fight itself sometimes gets overshadowed by the overblown 'little black bottle" scenario, but it was terrific.
I'm not sure if it fits in that 2 year span, but Chacon vs Boza-Edwards 2 was an absolutely brutal war. Chacon, his skills dissipated, showed his heart and toughness by outlasting the rugged Ugandan.
And I recall another back-and-forth brutal encounter between Yaqui Lopez and Saad Muhammad. As Brian Kenny would say "it was caveman stuff."
I loved Little Red Lopez vs. Mike Ayala---probably Danny's toughest title defense before losing to Sanchez---but that might have been in the late 70s. Still, it was an extraordinary fight held before a roaring throng in San Antonio.

Weaver v Tate was a boring fight until the end when Tate gassed. Hearns v Benitez was fairly boring. Gomez v Pintor was the best of the list. Great action every round, like Chacon v LimónEnlightened-One wrote: ↑05 Dec 2017, 10:28 • Salvador Sanchez vs. Danny Lopez

There is a section called boxers of the past for this. ![[icon_twisted.gif]](./images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif)
Don't get me wrong, I love the topic of the thread, but why does it take mods so long to realize it should be somewhere else? WTF STUPID

William "Caveman" Lee vs. John LoCicero deserves a mention.

Re: Best fight 1980-1982?
I believe that both the Hearns-Benitez and Weaver-Tate bouts were highly-entertaining. If you found them “boring”, then that’s clearly your prerogative to feel that way. I reckon they're probably better than most of the fights that take place during the current era.giacomino wrote: ↑07 Dec 2017, 22:01Weaver v Tate was a boring fight until the end when Tate gassed. However, I feel your opinion is a tad harsh, but I don’t know what criteria you use to determine the difference between “entertaining” and “boring” fights. Perhaps you’re only entertained by “Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots”?
Anyway, rather than criticise my list, why don’t you demonstrate to the forum your “expert” knowledge, by providing a list of highly-exciting bouts that haven’t already been listed, since your standards are clearly far superior than my own?
I don’t mind being proven wrong, if you can list some bouts that I’ve either forgotten or never seen before. So please, let me know if you can provide a better list?
