Magee 5-1 to win on points
Magee 5-1 to win on points
I just backed him on Betfair at 5-1 for £20, and backed £20 at 4-1 yesterday.
Good odds.

Re: Magee 5-1 to win on points
5.1 on B/F is really 4/1 and 4.0 on B/F is really 3/1. If Magee wins it will be on points & I would shocked if he managed it any other way. DQ, cuts or Froch injury are the only situations I see him winning by stoppage. Much smarter taking the points win odds than the 7/4 on a win by any means, however I can't see past a Froch KO win.nickd wrote:I just backed him on Betfair at 5-1 for £20, and backed £20 at 4-1 yesterday.

Re: Magee 5-1 to win on points
The way Froch was getting nailed by such a limited style last time tells me Magee has an excellent chance to win this.
But I haven't made a decent prediction in weeks so...

Goodbye indeed.
He's 5-1 for a reason, just like the long odds for Nigel Wright to beat Lenny Daws early the other week, it's not going to happen. Magee is unlikely to even hear the final bell let alone win enough rounds to collect a points decision.
A "show pony" as Pat Magee desribed Froch, doesn't ponce their way through two successful ABA championships and World Championship Bronze medal.
I hope Froch isn't lazy becuase that could let Magee in with a minute chance, but whatever happens the titles are staying with Carl after bouncing Magee off of the canvas a few times.

I wouldn't bet against Froch. I think he showed against the slippery Barney (who you could argue is an orthodox version of Magee) he can wear you down and grind out a victory.
Incidentally when Barney went into Froch's dressing room after the fight, Froch told him to fornicate off. Not the nicest thing in the world to do.

Yeah, Froch has shown he can beat spoilers well enough. Barney can take a shot better than Magee too.
That doesn't surprise me that Froch wasn't very welcoming to Barney afterwards. Barney's Dad was making a nuisance out of himself during the fight and after Matthew had gone on record with some rather unflattering comments about Froch beforehand and then boxed the way he did against Carl....well I don't think he gained Froch's respect.
I think with Froch he DOES mean what he says, so if you've got in a war of words with him, don't expect Froch to be Mr niceguy later on. He has been complimentary to some of his opponents too, but this doesn't seem to get acknowledged.

Froch was being picked off in the first, then Magee lunged and walked into an uppercut that put him down. They went back and forth in the fight with Magee landing more shots, but Froch shaking Magee now and then with bigger punches. A bad knockdown call against Magee in the 9th. Then both guys where tired in the 11th, Magee had his back against the ropes, Froch lands a big lead uppercut that puts Magee out for the count.

I agree, at any stage it would have been a maul but for me there is no doubting the Reid who fought Calzaghe would have beaten Froch. He had an excellent chin and would have boxed Froch's wide open head off.KOJOE90 wrote:I don't agree Reid is shot and even if Reid was in his prime stylewise I think it would make for an ugly fight.Loftgroov wrote:Would love to see Froch vs Reid.
Then again we are talking about a genuine world champion (Reid - WBC) against a guy who is highly unlikely to win one.
Unless Froch sorts out this languid lazy style (which lets be honest he is not going to do the warning signs have been there for a long time) he will never win a genuine world title unless he is lucky enough to matchup against someone with a dodgy chin.
