I don't know that page was better, certainly not much. On their best day I'd shade page on his speed. Probably take Mike to edge a series of 10

Page was better for sure. Smarter and slicker. While at his best, but he declined fast.

I agree that Page would beat Weaver on points behind his jabs and combinations or a late round stoppage.

At his best when Chaplin was kicking his ass?

When he won the World championship, for example.

Did Weaver get his ass kicked much on the way up?

I'd say his best performance was snipes, but you consider stopping coetzee in a 5 minute round more impressive than pushing a prime Holmes to the limit?

Sure did, do you consider that him at his 'best'? I picked page, just don't see the gap I'm reading.

No not at all, nor do I think Chaplin was Page at his best. I would lean to Page, but the Weaver of the Holmes fight would give him an epic rumble. Page sometimes did much better than Holmes vs common opponents, sometimes worse... But the Page of Coetzee, Tillis and Snipes fights was sublime and I think would find the punches to KO Weaver, eventually.

Page pushed Witherspoon to the limit. And Witherspoon also gave Holmes a fight. But how who fought whom often doesn't describe too much, as the styles make fights.

Of course, I just don't see a vast gap in skills. Weaver beat coetzee too.

Maybe it wasn't vast indeed, but I definitely see it.

I always felt Weaver was the best of the rotating WBA champs until Tyson cleaned house. Correct me if I am wrong (as my wife always does) but I believe he made the most title defenses. I know Witherspoon defended once, but did any other WBA champ make more than one defense? As far as the matchup it all depends on which Page shows up. I’d give him a slight edge perhaps but I don’t think he stood Weaver in their primes.

Greg was supposed to fight Mike in mid-to late 1982, but messed that up while in the Don King realm. Both at their best, Page by 8th-10th stoppage.
