Prime Haye vs. Current AJ

When Joshua was coming through Haye was still (kind of) around, I remember thinking 'they had better not put AJ in with Haye'.

I stand by that, the Ruiz fight is irrelevant as the styles are different.

Haye would stay outside and work at long range for the first few rounds, using his speed to offset his reach disadvantage.

But in the second half of the fight, as Joshua tires Haye would start taking more risks and that is when it would get interesting.

At the end of the day, it’s not about how much you like a fighter, this is purely about new opinions based on a ‘post Ruiz’ AJ. Haye of prime, is levels above AJ, and would have found his off button based on what we now know.

I'd pick 2011 Haye to beat 2017 AJ two-thirds of the time. Using Wlad as their common opponent (hence those years), it's easy to go AJ > Wlad > Haye, but Wlad knew how to fight tall against Haye, whereas AJ — on all evidence to date — doesn't.

Damaged nose taken into account, Takam's nowhere near Haye's peak level. And Povetkin was winning until his mileage caught up. Haye was low-mileage in boxing terms, but he had tendonitis-type problems from his training approach.

I think they could've stopped each other with one punch, the speed and timing in Haye's favour, the reach and physicality in AJ's.

I disagree, AJ style is more similar to Klit. Haye didn't roll inside like Ruiz, he would try and time you with fast shots from the outside. This is really tough to do against a tall man with a jab. Like against Klit, Haye would have to wait for an opening, rather than creating openings like Ruiz did.
Added to that AJ was concussed for the whole fight after the knockdown, he never recovered..
Also Haye didn't trust his chin against the big boys, which again stopped him risking diving in

I’m not convinced Haye has it in him to stop AJ, I don’t think he’d be prepared to go all in as Ruiz did. I think it would be Joshua on points in a not particularly interesting fight...

I'm caught between these two guys. I always fancied Haye getting to his chin & bombing him out before the big lad could get going, but as chinarich says, the likelihood is (like we saw vs Wlad, & to a much lesser extent Valuev) Haye scoots around at max range, waits for that perfect opening, & waits, & waits... & loses 11-1 on the cards in a snoozefest.

Of course, he beat Valuev, but I think the point stands. Haye wasn't enough of a gunslinger at heavy to do it, though he definitely had the tools.

I'm with Chinarich, Aj only jabbed lazily after walking into one against Ruiz. Clear headed his jab is good enough.

Tbh i agree with you,he would stay outside and looking for an opening but in the process get chinned big time
